Use of Nutrition Supplements for the Elderly
Tenglerová, Dana ; Kulhavá, Miluše (advisor) ; Podaná, Jana (referee)
The primary goal of my thesis was to describe the use of food supplements by seniors. Most seniors use medications prescribed by physicians and some of them also use over-the-counter food supplements that are more easily accessible. Seniors, in particular, are susceptible to considering food supplements to be as efficient as medications under the incessant influence of massive advertising on TV and other media, and many of them are willing to spend considerable amounts from their income on such preparations. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I define the term 'senior', describe the traits of ageing, and focus on the topic of nutrition in this age group. Then I focus on food supplements in general and their distinction from medications. The end of the theoretical part is focused on advertising and its impact on seniors. In the research part, which was prepared by means of a quantitative research, I examine the use of food supplements among seniors aged over 65, hospitalised at the Slaný Hospital. A total of 100 respondents were addressed, and 95 questionnaires were used at the end. The research shows that 60 % of the respondents use food supplements regularly or occasionally. One of the sub-goals of the thesis was determining the financial burden for seniors in purchasing the preparations....

Fauová, Magdalena ; Mellanová, Alena (advisor) ; Podaná, Jana (referee)
The Bachelor Thesis looks into the standard of quality of life of patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. The aim of my work was to determine if the quality of life of the patients treated within the period of eight years moved towards any progress. Whether the patients have any problems at work, in their personal life, and if their illness allows them to enjoy leisure activities and last but not least, if they perceive any change in applying this treatment and how. In the theoretical part of my thesis, I am focused on summarizing the information related to anatomy and physiology of kidney, renal failure and compensation of renal function. The comprehensive description of the quality of life of these patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis forms an integral part of my work. In the empirical part, I have used quantitative research and data I obtained via questionnaire survey. In my further investigation I applied comparative research and its results were compared with the research undertaken in 2004. The results have showed that the quality of life has improved in comparison to the year of 2004 in all of the mentioned dimensions. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

The Issue of Psychosomatic Disease in Undergraduate Students
Dršková, Adéla ; Hošťálková, Monika (advisor) ; Podaná, Jana (referee)
Psychosomatic diseases represent an important (emerging) group of diseases. It is known that the main cause is the effect of prolonged stress. On the contrary, they can be positively influenced by a healthy lifestyle. They may manifest as different diseases, affecting nearly all parts of the body, e.g., asthma, migraine, back pain, gastric ulcer, skin diseases, depression and others. Therefore, it is important to pursue them and to think about their prevention. As the main goal of my work, I determined to find out whether college students are vulnerable to a possible psychosomatic illness. To achieve this, I have set a number of partial objectives, namely: whether and how has changed the lifestyle of university students, whether they have difficulties that could indicate psychosomatic illness, whether they have been diagnosed with psychosomatic illness, whether they have information about prevention, whether they comply with any preventative measures and whether the risk of psychosomatic illness depends on field of study. For quantitative measures, the data was collected using a web-based questionnaire. The questionnaire was anonymous and was distributed via web link. Data were collected using a method of "self-selection", in the period from 4th to 24th of January 2016. Respondents were present or...
