Emigration as Life Experience: Czechs in Dennmark 1968 - 1989

This diploma thesis should contribute to the study of czechoslovak emigration during 1968-1989. It should bring closer life stories of eight persons, who migrated at that time to Denmark. Attention is paid to the period of leaving the sending country and arrival at the host country. On the basis of episodic narrative interviews I will attempt to reconstruct reasons, which motivated narrators to leave Czechoslovakia, how they left and how they started new lifes in the new society.
The division of Czechoslovakia in the eyes of people of chosen counties in Moravian-Slovak boarderland

The thesis deals with the living situation of people in the Moravian Slovakia region, whose homes suddenly appeared just a few kilometers from newly founded state border after the quick split of Czechoslovakia into two separate republics in 1993. Through the legacy of oral history, the thesis analyses and interprets interviews with the region's inhabitants, their political attitudes and opinions concerning the split of Czechoslovakia (it eventually takes in account the changes of such opinions during a concrete time period). The analyses tend to highlight impacts of the political split against quatidian life of the people. The author focused his attention in interviewing the living witnesses of the first split of Czechoslovakia in 1939 including the generation of people who started began professional life at the time the second division of Czechoslovakia.
The year 1989 as a turning point and drugs in society as perceived by an individual

English Summary Graduation thesis: The milestone year 1989 and drugs in the society in the view of an individual. This title covers the elaboration of the drug issue through 1989 in the Czech expert literature, dealing with the period since the advent of socialism up to the present days. The view of an individual, which is very important and crucial for the thesis, attends to the region of Prague, within the set objectives of the research. The work is divided into two main parts: The theoretical part which aims to produce an insight into the general happening first in Czechoslovakia and subsequently in the Czech Republic, using the Czech expert literature dealing with the history of drug problems. Practical part consists of an empirical research that focuses on demonstrating the development direction before 1989 up to these days within the region of Prague in three categories which are closely related, using structured interviews.

Cottagers: Social Aspects of a Subculture in Everyday Life Studies in the So-Called Normalization Period in Czechoslovakia. Petra Schindler-Wisten The subject of the doctoral thesis is to analyze the cottage dwelling, its development and expansion in the period of the so-called normalization period, with particular attention to its impact on the daily lives of citizens in Czechoslovakia. This paper is based on an oral history research that has been carried out with 30 cottagers from all regions of the Czech Republic. The main aim of this project has not been only to collect interviews with members of this particular group, but also to conduct the analysis of these interviews, to critically deal with their content and confront them with other sources, partly also with interviews from other projects. Cottaging as a social phenomenon started to develop dynamically after the WWII. In the second part of the 20th century it went through several phases. The phenomenon of cottaging is usually talked about in close connection with the period of the so-called normalization. However the origins of this phenomenon can be traced back to the end of the 19th century. POST-WAR DEVELOPMENT AND DAILY LIFE IN LIDICE (memories of Lidice residents of reverent memorials and a life in the village) Author deals with post-war development of Lidice since 1945 to 1989 with certain enjambment to years to come.Thesis tries to show, which way Lidice were exploited by communist regime to socialism propaganda and how it reflected in lives of Lidice residents. Author describes and assesses construction of new village together tied up with cooperating organizations, particularly Society for Lidice reconstruction a British movement Lidice Shall Live founded by Sir Barnett Stross. Author concetrates on Barnett Stross more closely concerning the fact author has contacted his family in Great Britain, where she has obtained memories on founder of new Lidice. Secondly, diplomate concentrates on life in new Lidice and perception of reverent memories and life of Lidice residents. Primarily, memories of narrators became main source base, which she has acquired and processed by oral history method. Memory and memories of World War II in Czech lands. The war memoirs of the Czechoslovak soldiers from second external resistance

The author of this master thesis tries to capture severa! moments of life stories of Czechoslovak soldiers and their so called war memoires (e.g. private war diaries and written memoirs, novels, poetry, interviews) bom during and after the Second World War. In the first part of dissertation is conceming e.g. these key questions: Why did the soldiers give testimony? How they did it? In what kind of written form they made it? Why those days seemed so cruel to them? How these testimonies were used by media and historians and how did they play a role in the process of fromning collective memory in Czech Lands. Examining these sources, author tried to answer for these questions. Important goal of dissertation is to demonstrate, how memoirs was perceived throughout centuries, since the ancient ages to the present and what forms were continiously developed. In the second part, us ing transformed concept of "realms of memory" (P. Nora) and "memory frames" (M. Halbwachs), author tries to demonstrate how these sources yould be used in reserahc of memory and every day life of Czechoslovak soldiers in qualitative way. Argo, fetch! The history of dog training (cynology) in Liberec region after 1945

The main topic of the thesis is a description of the transformation of the Sport Cynology during the second half of the 20th century in the Liberec region. The sport is based on cooperation between people and dogs. This hobby belongs to the most popular freetime activities in the Czech Republic, even though there is not enough information in Czechoslovak historiography. The aim of the thesis consists in a characterization of development of the Sport Cynology in the era of State Socialism in Czechoslovakia in the second half of the 20th century. I focus on a historical progress of the sport and its significant events, which were crucial for the next development of the sport activity. In the context of the Sport Cynology, "The Association for Cooperation with the Army" is mentioned because Czechoslovak cynology had to become a part of the association in 1953. In the first section of the paper, focused on history of the cynology, I use archival materials, contemporary magazines and information got from interviews with narrators. I apply qualitative research and its specific methods such as analysis of documents and thematically oriented biographical narratives. On oral history and teaching history in classroom

The article examines the benefits and pitfalls of the use of oral history in history teaching at universities, secondary and elementary schools. Resume derives from the own pedagogical experiences and is also based on the experience gained from the activities within the Czech Oral History Association.

Based on the analysis of the written war memoirs and oral history interview, this paper tries to resume, which was in general the image of commanders seen through the eyes by the Czechoslovak soldiers in the frames of so called primary groups, in everyday life of military units operating almost in France, in Great Britain, in the Middle East and in the U.S.S.R.
