Poverty of Czech seniors Abstract Poverty is a relevant topic even in developed countries, which it needs to be deal with. In the following diploma thesis I will introduce some definitions and concepts of poverty and material deprivation. I will also deal with process of demographic ageing and a development of senior's population in the Czech Republic. The intention of the analytical part of this diploma thesis is to capture a level of poverty and material deprivation of Czech seniors in year 2014, using at-risk- of-poverty rate and material deprivation rate. I will focus on the following question: "Which group of seniors based on gender, marital status, age and education is threatened the most by poverty or material deprivation". I will describe the level of poverty and material deprivation in different regions of the Czech Republic. I also will compare differences between seniors and the whole population in the sense of the level of poverty and material deprivation. This thesis uses data from the Czech Statistical Office, particularly the data from the Population Cenzus in years 2001 and 2011 and also the data from the household survey called Living condition in year 2014. Selected data are used in binary logistic regression for describing the determinants of poverty and material deprivation of seniors in...

Social Housing in Social Policy focusing on Prague 7 City District Abstract This diploma thesis focuses on the current system of social housing in the context of the social policy of the Czech Republic. It deals with individual problem groups using social housing, involves the research of social housing situation in other European countries and the overall historical context that has led to the current social housing situation in the Czech Republic. The theoretical framework aims to the housing itself it closely associated with the main topic. Since the subject is complex and broad, the analytical framework concentrates on social housing issues of the Prague 7 district. Current population in this particular territory is largely influenced by increased number of immigration of people mostly aged 20−45. As a result, the overall population is younger than in other parts and the number of seniors living in Prague 7 municipal district has been continuously decreasing. The outcomes of the population projection to the year 2050 suggest the proportion of age groups will probably change, and a high population growth is likely to happen under given assumptions. The life expectancy at birth and mean age of mothers at first childbirth increase, respecting nationwide trend. One of the other important factors is the...

Vachová, Aneta ; Hulíková Tesárková, Klára (advisor) ; Kurtinová, Olga (referee)
Mortality analysis of diseases caused by smoking in selected European countries, 1999-2014 Abstrakt The main point of this diploma thesis is to analyze mortality development of diseases caused by smoking in selected countries of the European Union during the period 1999-2014 by using analytic methods. Objective states are at first represented as values of smoking prevalence indicators and consumption of cigarettes per smoker in the population. The mortality development of diseases caused by smoking in selected European countries is mentioned afterwards. The computation of temporary life expectancy at exact ages 35-85 was made after that. When we compare temporary life expectancy at age 35-85 of the real population and temporary life expectancy where we will not count with mortality diseases caused by smoking in the same age group we will get a value of how many more years would the population in that age group live if the mortality of diseases caused by smoking was eliminated successfully. The results of the main part of this thesis show that if the people didn't die on diseases caused by smoking, the most visible prolongation of temporary life expectancy at exact ages 35-85 would be in Baltic countries, especially in Latvia, in both sexes. Keywords: Mortality, smoking, mortality causes, temporary life...

Family and household structure in Norway in the period of 2005-2016 Abstract The main aim of the bachelor work is to describe the structure of families and households in Norway in the period 2005-2016 regard to the population development in Norway and data from the Norwegian Statistical Office related to families and households. The partial aim of the thesis is to compare the structure of families and households in Norway with selected European countries in 2001 and 2011 based on the values of the standardized index of household heads, calculated from the Demographic Yearbook's data. The analysis shows that the structure of families and households in Norway differs significantly from the structure of families and households in the countries of southern and eastern Europe. A more similar structure of families and households to the structure of Norway have some countries of central Europe, and the most similar is structure of countries in northern Europe. The propensity to found own household for Norwegian men and women is one of the highest among the surveyed countries, but the value of the standardized index of household heads for women in Norway related to the standard is higher than for men as in most of the analyzed states. The results of analysis suggest that there is an intensive spread of cohabitation...

Single-parent families in the Czech Republic from census and sample surveys Abstract The main objective of this thesis is to comprehensively chart as much as possible what we can learn about single-parent families in the Czech Republic from all publicly available data sources, such as surveys and censuses. Incomplete families are viewed from a historical and the contemporary perspective and the expected development of a structure for the future is also shown. Single-parent families are a contemporary phenomenon because the number of dependent children in the incomplete families in the Czech republic has increased by almost a half in the last fifteen years. The thesis provides information about various data sources regarding single-parent families and it evaluates their use and comparability for the research. It also contains an analysis of the structure of families and households based on the population development and census data in the Czech Republic. The financial situation of single-parent families is examined in detail - their income expenditure, individual groups of cash expenditures. The thesis also focuses on the description of their apartment's facilities. Tovarová, Lenka ; Kurtinová, Olga (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
Fertility postponement in the Czech republic and selected European countries in the period 1990−2015 Abstract We have been able to observe the trend of shifting of maternity to later periods of life in European countries since the second half of the 20th century. However crucial for this thesis is to determine whether there have been disparity in delaying of maternity between selected Eastern European (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland) and Western European (Germany and Austria) countries since 1990 till present. The goal of this work is to find the relationship among setting of family policies, fertility rate of older women and respondents' views. In the first part of this thesis are outlined basic theories explaining postponing of maternity. There are also listed consequences related to the late maternity. The thesis touches a topic of family policies which influence the phenomenon of late maternity. It presents several fundamental tools of family policies and compares them among selected countries. The second part focuses on a description of demographic indicators that demonstrate the shift in timing of maternity. The main analysis in this thesis is a logistic regression, which explains respondent's views on issues related to a harmonization of family and employment by selected explanatory variables from...

Ženíšková, Aneta ; Kurtinová, Olga (advisor) ; Šťastná, Anna (referee)
Fertility development in selected European countries considering the timing effect from the second half of the 20th century to the present The main objective of this thesis is to evaluate the influence of the timing effect on the mean age of mothers at childbirth in the context of fertility development in selected European countries from the second half of the 20th century to the present. Another objective is to adjust the total fertility rate to the timing effect and consequently demonstrated how changes in fertility timing affect this period measure in selected countries at a given time fame. The last objective is an evaluation of the views of respondents from studied countries from the sample survey of the European Social Survey for the years 2004 and 2010 to the questions relating to the reconciliation of work and family as one of the factors affecting the timing of fertility. On the basis of Esping-Andersen's typology of welfare states, following states are selected: Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland and Ukraine. Changes of the mean age of mothers at childbirth are given not only by real changes in the timing of childbearing (the timing effect), but also by changes in the childbearing according to the birth order (the effect of fertility structure). The method of decomposition was used for...
