Fabrication and characterization of atomically thin layers

In-situ Raman spectroelectrochemistry of graphene and related materials in concentrated aqueous electrolytes
Abbas, Ghulam ; Frank, Otakar (advisor) ; Kunc, Jan (referee) ; Voiry, Damien (referee)
The complex interplay between the material's properties and the electrochemical process often taking place at its ubiquitous edges makes it difficult to discriminate the role of single defects in the charge transfer processes in the material. Therefore, we have performed in-situ μ-droplet Raman spectroelectrochemistry (SEC) to identify the localized charge transfer processes through the basal plane and defects in a selected localized area of 10-20 μm2 of defect-free and defective monolayer graphene. It is noticed that two distinctive electron transfer processes of slower and faster rates exist side-by-side in the same sample but they are confined in the defect-free and defect-rich regions, respectively. Furthermore, in order to explore the electrochemical ion intercalation mechanism for rechargeable batteries, in-situ Raman SEC in a macro SEC cell was performed. It was observed that structural properties such as the lateral domain size (La), degree of graphitization (g), inter-defect distance (LD) and defect density (nD) have substantial influence on the electrochemical (de)intercalation of anion into natural and kish graphite during charge/discharge process. It was also revealed that ultrasound treatment of natural graphite reduces the La which enhances the reversibility of the anion...

Growth of graphene by thermal decomposition of silicon carbide for applications in biophysics
Hodoš, Matúš ; Kunc, Jan (advisor) ; Čechal, Jan (referee)
This bachelor thesis is focused on growth and characterization of graphene from SiC powder at different conditions. In the introduction graphene properties are briefly described. Afterwards three methods of graphene growth are discussed, with particular emphasis on thermal decomposition of SiC. Further, the characterization methods which were used by us are explained. In experimental part, three sets of graphene samples prepared by thermal decomposition of SiC will be described, each will differ in one of the factors: temperature, time and ambient atmosphere. Growth samples will be subsequently used in an experiment on yeast. The effect of graphene prepared at different conditions on membrane potential will be determined for possible application in biophysics.
Cuban dissidents in Cuba and in exile. Origin, present state and development of resistance against the regime of Fidel Castro
Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Interaction of short-wavelength laser pulses with matter on various time scales
Vozda, Vojtěch ; Kunc, Jan (advisor) ; Caha, Ondřej (referee) ; Timneanu, Nicusor (referee)
An advent of powerful sources producing intense and ultrashort laser pulses containing high-energy photons opened up a wide range of possibilities to conduct experiments formerly achievable only through theoretical calculations and models. This thesis provides a complex overview of processes which occur right after arrival of the first photons, through lattice heating, up to resolidification and formation of irreversible changes. Irradiated spots and craters formed in various materials are examined employing a wide range of microscopic and spectroscopic methods which provide a deep insight into laser-induced modifications such as detachment of a graphene layer from SiC substrate or thermally-induced diffusion of tellurium inclusions through CdTe lattice. An increased emphasis is placed on beam characterization utilizing ablation and desorption imprints in suitable solids. A proper knowledge of the beam fluence profile may serve for evaluation of diverse damage thresholds as well as for modelling of the pulse propagation or consequent retrieval of otherwise unmeasurable opacity of warm dense aluminium plasma heated to temperatures exceeding tens of thousands of Kelvins. Moreover, the method of desorption imprints is extended to accurate characterization of pulses delivered at MHz repetition rate....

10 Abstract This diploma work deals with analysis of spa in the city of Poděbrady, its development, state and it also shows possible trends of its future development. Concepts of destination lifecycle, sustainable capacity of tourism, concept of social attitudes - social respond to tourism and interaction between the locals and tourists, and theory of sustainable development of tourism have served as a theoretical framework of this work. Methodology of this work is based on questionnaire research conducted at three levels - among patients, among spa staff and among owners of individual accommodation facilities in Poděbrady. Out of three spa facilities only a company Lázně Poděbrady a.s. showed good will to participate, therefore the outcomes present in particular this spa. Patients on which the company Lázně Poděbrady, a.s. was preferably supposed to concentrate were identified as individual target groups. Further source of information were also moderated interviews with persons concerned in the city development, i.e. local authority, representatives of Lázně Poděbrady, a.s. or owners of individual hotels involved in the local inquiry. Also a review from available Czech and foreign literature and internet information served important source of information. The aim of this work is an effort to identify the...
