Laboratory works in physics for upper secondary schools
Koutská, Barbora ; Žák, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Kekule, Martina (referee)
This Bachelor thesis is dealing with laboratory classes at secondary schools. Thesis offers ideas for five laboratory classes which were carried out during regular teaching at the secondary school. Besides other things there are work sheets here to be used with given classes and for the teachers there are metodical instructions which have arisen from implementation in classes and from subsequent reflection. Laboratory classes are thematically focused on the field of vibration and interference which run through different fields of physics. The aim of these classes is mainly to develop students' creativity in solving problems, their practical skills during preparation of experiments, also to develop critical attitude to the information and the discussion about mistakes and negligencies which emerged during measuring and working on the computer. As it turned out in research dedicated to motivation in learning physics, laboratory classes prepared in this way - i.e. experiments carried out by students themselves and using computers in processing data - are loved by students and because of that they have a great motivational capacity.
What is the role of secondary metabolites in ecology of Asteraceae species?
Koutská, Barbora ; Weiser, Martin (advisor) ; Latzel, Vít (referee)
Plants have evolved various defence mechanisms depending on the ecological context of their environment. The first part of this review summarises possibilities of plant defence. All types of defence are energy intensive. In most cases, a plant chooses between two strategies: being 'fast growing and non- poisonous' or being 'slowly growing and poisonous'. The next part of the review focuses on chemical defence of the Asterace family. Secondary metabolites of the Compositae are characterized by isoprenoids which cause bitterness of essential oils and latex. This review is mainly about sesquiterpene lactones due to their great role in plant - herbivore interactions and their pharmaceutical potential. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
Seasonal variability of plant secondary metabolism (Artemisia sp.)
Koutská, Barbora ; Weiser, Martin (advisor) ; Dostál, Petr (referee)
Plant secondary metabolites (SM) are widely used by humans in many ways (pharmacy, biotechnology etc.). For making their use even more effective, it is important to know the seasonality of these chemicals in plants and what affect those changes. Three Artemisia species (Artemisia annua, A. absinthium, A. vulgaris) were cultivated during one vegetation season (from April to September 2016). Plant growth parameters and the beginning of their generative stages were observed, and leaf samples were collected regularly. Samples of some plants were collected repeatedly. A generalist herbivore (migratory locust), was used as a proxy for studying changes in plant secondary metabolism during the vegetation season. The results proved presence of defence secondary metabolites in plants except A. vulgaris species where the role of SM in defence was not shown. Levels of SM changed nonlinearly during the vegetational season and were time-dependent. Plant size did not influence the levels of SM in plants. Levels of SM were low at the beginning of the experiment followed by rapid increase and remaining on maximal levels. The plants which lost their biomass repetitively grew slowly and bloomed later than the plants which were clipped only once. A delay trend showing seasonality of the plant SM was not proved. In...
