Putin's Historical Narrative: Problems of Russian Post-Soviet Identity and the Role of History during Putin's Presidency 2000-2008

The thesis focuses on a historical narrative promoted by president Putin during his first two terms in office during the years 2000 - 2008. Furthermore it aims to analyse the consequences of Putin's uses of history on the domestic and the international level. First, theoretical aspects of political use of history are drafted since they are essential to understand the role history plays in a nation-building process. Consequently, tools used to promote a certain historical narrative are mentioned. The work describes main problems related to the formation of Russian post-Soviet identity and analyses causes of Yeltsin's failure in this task. Subsequently, Putin's political visions such as a need of strong Russia and restoration of great power status are presented. The work also identifies how Putin's political goals project into his view of history. The main characteristics of Putin's historical narrative are analysed on a basis of secondary literature and Putin's speeches. The thesis focuses separately on Putin's use of symbols of three Russian historical époques - the Tsarist Russia, the Soviet Union and the Yeltsin era. Emphasis is put on Putin's attitude towards the Soviet past since his Second World War narrative and his view of Stalin represent a major source of controversies. The consequences of...

Historical Narrative and Identity Building: Museums in Bosnia and Herzegovina

The thesis analyses historical narratives presented in exhibitions of the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo and the Museum of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka. It also clarifies who promotes that particular representation of history and which factors influence the decisions museums make. The thesis builds on theoretical literature related to a role of museums in a process of memory institutionalization and identity building as well as to their potential to bring reconciliation in post-conflict society. The subjects of the research are the main museums dealing with the recent history in the two Bosnian autonomous entities, with the History Museum being in predominantly Bosniak while the Museum of Republika Srpska in predominantly Serb environment. The thesis explores the development of the museums, their organization, financing, self-presentation and most importantly the narratives of their permanent and temporary exhibitions. These are analysed especially from the perspective of definition of own group versus the others. The analysis covers museums' activities in the period from 1995 to present days. The Use of Verb Modes in French Relative Clauses (with regard to its Czech Equivalents).

Use of verbal ways in the French subordinate relative clauses (with respect to the Czech equivalents) is the very topic of this Bachelor?s Thesis. The Thesis is divided into two main parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part clarifies the basic terms, creation and use of the subjunctive and indicative mood and at the same time proposes the set of criteria, which selection of the indicative or conjunctive mood in the subordinate relative clause is governed by. The practical part has been elaborated, based on the corpus analysis within the scope of the Intercorp corpus and tries to defend the knowledge gathered in the theoretical part.
