Timber and internal environment of buildings
Buchta, Stanislav ; Drápal,, Radim (referee) ; Vaverka,, Jiří (referee) ; Kabele,, Karel (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The present doctoral thesis engages in an internal environment of wooden buildings. Currently, the specialists endeavour to design and realize this type of buildings as low-energy consuming. In an effort, they minimize the thermal losses by reduction of heat transfer coefficient of external walls and reduction or elimination of their air permeability. Not always structural and technical requirements of this kind of buildings are satisfied and also a sanitary and health protection is not fully sustained. Increase in a relative air humidity of internal environment has a negative impact on moisture in wood and heat insulation in the structure. Then the buildings are exposed to the increased risk of mold infestation. This can cause various health problems such as headache, respiratory diseases, general fatigue or impaired concentration. For the purpose of experimental verification of the internal environment, four wooden houses of medium size were observed in 2010 and 2011. The internal temperature and humidity as well as subjective feelings of the household members were monitored there. For the simulation of the real wooden construction, an application BSim was used. Different states as well as stationary and nonstationary physical processes were simulated by the boundary conditions adjustment. Also the criteria for designing and optimization of living comfort of household members were recommended in the thesis.

The systems of building services in immovable heritage
Maurerová, Lenka ; Vlček, Milan (referee) ; Kabele,, Karel (referee) ; Doc.Ing. Martina Peřinková, Ph.D (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The present PhD. thesis deals with the systems of building services (namely heating, ventilating and air conditioning, shading) which provide required indoor microclimate inside the immovable heritage. The work thus combines the exclusively technical field of building services (BS) and the general principles of heritage conservation. The aim of my PhD. thesis is the analysis of immovable heritage conservation processes, focusing on the current state of research and BS systems documentation. Furthermore the work concerns the possibilities of temporary measurements of indoor climate parameters inside the immovable heritage, and aims to develop a computer model (in BSim software) for the simulation of various working conditions in the selected buildings. For the stated aims were selected three representative historic houses: historical assembly hall at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Brno University of Technology; the Palm Greenhouse at Lednice Chateau in Moravia; and Villa Tugendhat in Brno. These buildings had been surveyed for several years, and in this PhD. thesis I present their analysis, evaluation, and conclusions. The aims of this PhD. thesis broadly correspond to the transnational objectives. The present research is, for example, in accordance with the international document ICOMOS Charter (Zimbabwe, 2013) which is concerned with the analysis, conservation, and restoration of architectural heritage. The research of immovable heritage is also supported by European Union, e.g. by the Seventh Framework Programme of EU.

Heat transfer analysis of phase-change process in tubular exchanger
Fečer, Tomáš ; Bašta,, Jiří (referee) ; Kabele,, Karel (referee) ; Plášek, Josef (advisor)
The system HVAC is frequently based on cyclic phase change of boiling fluid. This phase change of boiling fluid (liquid-gas or gas-liquid) is coupled with boiling heat transfer by nucleate boiling, convective boiling and pre/post dryout effect. The nucleate boiling is depended on superheat of wall (i.e. heat flux) and presence of active nucleation sites. The two-phase convection boiling with dependence on mass flux and vapour quality is performed in liquid film between superheated wall and vapour core. The pre/post dryout effect is significant, when the liquid film is consumed and superheated wall is exposed directly to vapour core. This boiling heat transfer by nucleate boiling, convective boiling and pre/post dryout effect is simplified for engineering design on boiling heat transfer coefficient. Therefore, the dissertation thesis is aimed at experimental analysis of phase-change process in advanced engineering design.
Impact Assessment of Selected Parameters of Residential Buildings on Their Energy Performance
Vendlová, Lucie ; Rubina, Aleš (referee) ; Kabele,, Karel (referee) ; Papež,, Karel (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The work deals with the impact assessment of selected parameters of residential buildings on their energy performance. Within the application of the theory of statistics database of selected residential buildings is analyzed in terms of different features that characterize it. In particular, the thermal insulating properties and individual sub-items in the energy balance are analyzed. Then the measured rate dependence of selected parameters affecting energy performance is examined using correlation and regression analysis. The results are applied in the development of computational tools for evaluating energy flows in the building.

Miček, Denis ; Horák, Petr (referee) ; Kabele, Karel (referee) ; Hirš, Jiří (advisor)
The Earth, our home planet is world unlike any other. The third planet from the sun is the only place in the known universe confirmed to host life. We, the humans always headed up to reach set up goals, innovate our technologies and way of living. The fact that, we had never been aware of is that this race to our bright and modern future is destroying our home. By this time, the global temperature arises by 1,9 oC since 1880, 427 gigatons of ice sheets were melted and there are 414 ppm of carbon dioxide particles in our atmosphere. As the trend is changing and we are above to think in green way of living, there is necessity to set up roadmaps and actions plans to stop, eventually decrease the damage which was already caused. The European union started to measure and provide actions plans to decrease the pollution and production of greenhouse gases since the year 1990 – which was set up as reference year for comparison to progress. This arrangement forced the countries to start evaluating the current statuses of their public and industrial sectors in terms of climate changes and provide climate plans for reducing the greenhouse gases. The most important part of climate action plans is to involve the renewable sources of energy into all public and industrial sectors and in this way start the green way of living. Therefore, the investigation and proper understanding of this problems must be the main focus of technical universities and scientific sectors. This dissertation thesis is the summit of 8 years studies and investigation in field of renewable sources of energy, mainly focused on geothermal energy which production in year 2002 was 0 GWh. The main goal is to experimentally analyze designed solutions, elaborated within master and bachelor thesis in real operation of Balneotherapy departments at Slovak Health Spa Piestany, Slovakia from energy, economic and environmental point of view, to set up energy, aqua management and fully understand the way of involvin
