The role of regional product labelling schemes in the process of institutionalizing regions and in their development
Kašková, Magdalena
The diploma thesis deals with regional products and their labelling schemes which have rarely been studied in the context of Czech geography. The thesis aims to identify the role of regional product labelling schemes in the process of institutionalizing regions (in the sense of Anssi Paasi) as well as to discover their contribution to the development of regions. The thesis is based on a theoretical discussion which includes the concept of region and regional identity formation, the issue of regional products as a part of the alternative food networks concept and the issue of symbolism and branding/labelling. The research consists of three parts. The first part provides a database of Czech labelling schemes and an assessment of regional product labelling in Czechia. In the second part, 22 labelling schemes united by the Association of Regional Brands are assessed from different perspectives (location, structural aspects etc.). The last part verifies and completes the findings using semi-structured interviews with key actors of the labelling schemes. The existence of the relation between labelling schemes and the institutionalization of regions was verified at each scale. Regional product labelling is particularly involved in the formation of the region's territorial shape and in the strengthening of...

Kronát, Jaromír ; Kučera, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kašková, Magdalena (referee)
Development of Renewable Energy Sources as a Factor of Landscape Changes: An Example of Solar Power Plants Abstract The bachelor thesis "The Development of Renewable Energy Sources as a Factor of Landscape Changes: The Case of Solar Power Plants" explores the phenomenon of the construction of alternative energy facilities as a major driving force of landscape changes. On the example of photovoltaic power plants it attempts to discuss the significance of the impact of renewable resources on the landscape character and on the values that people attach to landscape. The key part of the thesis is the case study of two sites in photovoltaic power plants. The study involves the analysis of media and public reports about the model areas and a series of interviews with respondents from the groups of concerned actors. The research results show large differences in the evaluation of photovoltaic power between different groups of actors involved. The also groups differ in the level of awareness. The are also different attitudes towards various forms of renewables. Keywords: renewable energy, photovoltaic power plants, landscape.
The suburbanization process and the development of the first suburbias in Prague's hinterland during the first half of 20th century: the case study of Dobřichovice
Suttrová, Ivana ; Špačková, Petra (advisor) ; Kašková, Magdalena (referee)
The aim of the bachelor thesis is to show how the process of suburbanization impacted on physical and social environments in the Prague hinterland during the first half of 20th century on the example of the Dobřichovice city located in Praha-západ district. This municipality was a favourite residential and recreation locality during the interwar period, especially for Prague inhabitants. First, the thesis deals the development of intensity and character of new building construction in the municipality during the interwar period. Second, there is an analysis of demographic and socio-economic structures of suburban population and comparison with other inhabitants based on the effort of identification of suburbanites in the individual Census data. Consequently, the thesis evaluates the effect of suburbanization on the change of population structure in Dobřichovice. The analysis confirmed the effect of suburbanization on expansion of built-up areas and changes in population structure and cultural and economic climates in municipality. Key words: Suburbanization, Dobřichovice, Prague during interwar period, building, population structure

Societal Driving Forces of LUCC in the Boží Dar Model Area, Krušné hory Mts., in 1842-2009
Kašková, Magdalena ; Fendrychová, Lenka (referee) ; Jeleček, Leoš (advisor)
The thesis deals with land use development in the model area Boží Dar, situated near the Czech-German border in the Krušné hory mountains, from 1845 to 2009. Based on an analysis of data taken from the LUCC Czechia Database, changes in land use patterns are explained and the primary driving forces, particularly societal forces, behind these changes are explored. This was made possible by analysing the historic-geographical development of the territory in question, focusing in particular on the last twenty years. Tendencies in land use development were similar to general trends for Czechia; however, they were more significant in the studied area. Major changes took place between 1949 and 1990. Besides the exodus of the Czech Germans after WW II, the primary factor of land use change was isolation, caused by the establishment of a border zone. Changes of similar importance, recorded in the 2000 - 2009 period, were caused by unique economic developments in Boží Dar. These are based on support for sustainable tourism, effectively drawing on financial resources from the EU and the active participation of local government administration. The most significant change was a decrease in permanent grasslands. At present, their overall area is increasing again, due to the renewed use of waterlogged land for...
