The influence of menus in catering establishments on a sustainable development of tourism
Lochman, Josef ; Vágner, Jiří (advisor) ; Jehlička, Petr (referee) ; Matlovičová, Kvetoslava (referee)
Food accompanies a tourist's stay in a destination from the very beginning to the very end and significantly influences the overall travel experience. However, gastronomic experiences also have a significant impact on the environment, as food has to be produced, transported, and processed. This thesis addresses the environmental issue of tourists' diet in detail. The main purpose is to comprehensively approach the problem from several perspectives. Specifically, the thesis has four objectives: 1) to quantify the amount of food consumed globally in tourism and its environmental requirements; 2) to identify the potential drivers behind excessive negative pressure on the environment; 3) to evaluate the level of environmental sustainability of selected European urban destinations and 4) to consider possible opportunities for the sustainable development of a destination in relation to its gastronomic offer. In terms of theoretical framework, the thesis uses the concept of time geography and the theory of planned behaviour to demonstrate the importance of the role of catering facilities in the environmental sustainability of a destination. The reason for this is primarily the limited movement of tourists and their access to catering facilities. Another key element is the structure of local offer (menus),...

MUDr. JEHLIČKA SUMMARY This study has focused on a new method for the assessment of endothelial dysfunction (ED) using the Deceleration Index (DI). A total of 242 ultrasonographic examinations were performed in 92 children (FH 32, DM1 30, healthy controls 3O). The average DI values were 21.8%(±9.4)in healthy children, 19.9%(±9)in FH and 17.6%(±14)in the DM1 group. There were statistically insignificant differences between the study groups. This was most probably due to the high biological variability of the method employed. The coefficient of variation of DI was 1.02 (0.68 -1.53). Therefore, the clinical usefulness of DI is limited with regards to the individual assessment of ED and thus for the prediction of cardiovascular risk. The association of ADMA and oxLDL with ED and their superior sensitivity compared to DI and FMD has been confirmed in our study. Folic acid supplementation did not lead to a statistically signifiant improvement of DI and FMD. Similarly, plasma levels of ADMA and oxLDL remained unchanged despite a decrease of homocysteine and hsCRP in these children. This finding demonstrates a complicated relationship between ADMA, homocysteine and folic acid. The protective effect of folic acid on ED in high risk children was not confirmed in this study.
Sense of National and Regional Identity of Hungarian High School Students in Slovakia
Performativity of theoretical concepts: Spatial and institutional changes in Prague metropolitan region as a consequence of EU cohesion policy
Coblence, Alena ; Sýkora, Luděk (advisor) ; Blažek, Jiří (referee) ; Jehlička, Petr (referee)
Scholars in various social sciences have studied how concepts and theories not only analytically describe, but also normatively shape social reality. They labelled this phenomenon performativity. While the findings of these studies have brought a lot of new theorizing and implications, little is known on the existence of theoretical concepts in their full range and how they are actually implemented. This dissertation focuses on how theoretical concepts come into being and how they manifest themselves in everyday reality of various actors. Two geographical concepts were chosen-knowledge locality and metropolitan region-and three research questions were set: (RQ1) what are the activities and practices of various actors that lead the concepts come into being; (RQ2) how their coming into being changes urban and institutional arrangements in the functional region of Prague; and (RQ3) whether public policies are performative and succeed in materializing the given concepts in the development of cities and regions. Analysing the implementation of these concepts and discussing with the literature offers answers to research questions through: (1) the theory of performative practices, (2) the urbanization process and the institutionalization of the region, and (3) the "agency" of public policies. Two case...
Specific development of second homes in a protected area on the example of tramp communes in the Bohemian Paradise
Brandejská, Tereza ; Fialová, Dana (advisor) ; Jehlička, Petr (referee)
Tramping is perceived as a unique Czech cultural phenomenon that belongs to the subject of geographical research of second homes. The master thesis covers the character and evolution of tramping in Nature Reserve Podtrosecká údolí and its close surroundings. Nature Reserve Podtrosecká údolí is a part of Český ráj, the first large scale protected area in former Czechoslovakia. The thesis primarily focuses on the history of tramp communes, especially the establishment of tramp cottages in the researched area and analyzes the history of the settlements during 20th century to this day within the context of tramping movement as well as second home phenomenon as such. Apart from that, the thesis discusses the evolution of tramping communities from tramps-settlers to cottagers-vacationers. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the significance of social relationships and possible tangible as well as intangible communitarian cultural traits. Tramping is a subculture with multiple distinct communities in several geographical areas. Furthermore, the theoretical part includes the environmental protection - both formal that is driven by governmental driven as well as informal that includes many tramps. The practical part is chronologically ordered from the early beginning of tramping movement until...
Searching for and Evaluating the Severity of Endothelial Dysfunction in Children with Chronic Autoimmune Disease
Sýkorová, Aneta ; Jehlička, Petr (advisor) ; Urbanová, Zuzana (referee) ; Klásková, Eva (referee)
We aimed to evaluate the endothelial function by combining RHI measurements and specific biochemical markers in the children with possible risk of premature manifestation of atherosclerosis and in the control group of healthy children. In all, 124 children (of which 106 patients divided into five groups according to diagnosis - type 1 diabetes mellitus, Crohn's disease, cystic fibrosis, familial hypercholesterolemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia and 18 healthy controls) were enrolled in the study. During the study, we measured RHI using a new plethysmographic method and further evaluated biochemical markers of endothelial dysfunction (ADMA, E-selectin, hsCRP and VCAM) and lipidogram in individual groups of children. The primary objective of our study was the determination of RHI and biochemical parameters in healthy subjects and in selected risk groups of children (type 1 diabetes mellitus, Crohn's disease, cystic fibrosis, familial hypercholesterolemia and children after successful treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia). At the same time, we compared patients from individual groups with the control group. We found significantly elevated RHI values in groups of children with type 1 diabetes, Crohn's disease, cystic fibrosis, and children after successful treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia....
The role of regional product labelling schemes in the process of institutionalizing regions and in their development
Kašková, Magdalena ; Chromý, Pavel (advisor) ; Jehlička, Petr (referee)
The diploma thesis deals with regional products and their labelling schemes which have rarely been studied in the context of Czech geography. The thesis aims to identify the role of regional product labelling schemes in the process of institutionalizing regions (in the sense of Anssi Paasi) as well as to discover their contribution to the development of regions. The thesis is based on a theoretical discussion which includes the concept of region and regional identity formation, the issue of regional products as a part of the alternative food networks concept and the issue of symbolism and branding/labelling. The research consists of three parts. The first part provides a database of Czech labelling schemes and an assessment of regional product labelling in Czechia. In the second part, 22 labelling schemes united by the Association of Regional Brands are assessed from different perspectives (location, structural aspects etc.). The last part verifies and completes the findings using semi-structured interviews with key actors of the labelling schemes. The existence of the relation between labelling schemes and the institutionalization of regions was verified at each scale. Regional product labelling is particularly involved in the formation of the region's territorial shape and in the strengthening of...
Struggle for the right to the city: Alternative spaces in post-socialist Prague
Pixová, Michaela ; Sýkora, Luděk (advisor) ; Jehlička, Petr (referee) ; Ferenčuhová, Slávomíra (referee)
The dissertation focuses on spaces in post-socialist Prague which transcend the hegemony of capitalist social and spatial relations and provide alternative spaces for non-profit culture and grassroots activities used and operated by students, artistic and creative communities, alternative subcultures, and NGOs. The author presents 14 case studies focused on these spaces, whose existence in the city is threatened. Referring to Marxian urban theory and the concept of the right to the city, the author critically investigates the democratic character of the social structures which are based on the contemporary socioeconomic model, and interprets the way in which the imperative of capital-accumulation, combined with the legacies of the totalitarian past, constrain the development of open democracy and civil society, and the creation of diverse, vibrant, progressive, and socially inclusive urban environments. The empirical part of the dissertation outlines the process of creating and operating alternative spaces in Prague during a changing political-economic context, and describes in detail, alternative spaces that existed in Prague in the early 21st century. The author discusses these spaces in relation to two different regimes, which existed in Czech society before and after the Velvet Revolution in...
