Power and ideology in the work of Tibor Déry

This thesis analyses the theme of power and ideology in the fiction of the Hungarian writer Tibor Déry. Through the techniques of textual interpretation and the New Historicism, it explores issues of class struggle, the conflict of ideologies in the twentieth century as well as aspects of the application of power and violence against individuals in Déry's novels at the thematic and motivational level of the plot. The author has been inspired by the ideas of Michel Foucault, Elias Canetti and Hannah Arendt in his analysis of the writer's texts. The interpretive part of the thesis traces the compositional and plot elements of Déry's novels The Unfinished Sentence and The Answer in particular, considering also other novels and novelistic texts. Questions of national identity in the works of Hungarian emigration from 1945 to the present

This bachelor thesis analyses questions of national identity in the works of the Hungarian emigration in the second half of the 20th century. It examines a phenomenon of a nation in the Hungarian literary context of the modern time. It creates a picture of the Hungarian literary emigration in the West, its literary centres and publication opportunities of its writers in the periodicals of the exile. In the main part it focuses on depiction of the theme of nation and emigration in the texts of four representative exile writers, specifically of Sándor Márai, Sandor Lénárd, György Faludy and Ágota Kristóf, by which it contributes to the basic research of the Hungarian exile prose in the Czech academic environment. Czecho-Slovak reactions to the Hungarian uprising of 1956

This bachelor thesis analyses events of the Hungarian uprising in the autumn of 1956 and the Czecho-Slovak reactions related to them. It examines development of political situation in Hungary which advanced towards outbreak of the uprising, its progress and following response in Czechoslovakia. It focuses on emergency measures applied by the Czechoslovak government, image of the uprising presented in the Czechoslovak press and also contemporary reactions of citizens, especially those living in Slovakia, to the revolutionary events.
