The Preparation of interpretive Performance
Šístek, Eduard ; ERICSSON, Mikael (advisor) ; HOŠEK, Jiří (referee)
This thesis is about the preparation of a performance, the relationship between interpretation and technugue and other elements which constitute a good performance. The key idea is an-round development of a performer´s abilities and skills- Having an idea of both harmonic and formal structure of a composition makes us more able to interpret it. Developed mental abilities of memory and imagination are needed for this as much as a reliable technigue. The quality of a performance is influenced by the preparation process to a considerable extent.Besides, the ability to adapt to the acoustic of the hall and coping with stagefright do not lack importance either. Every public performance brings new sensation and inspiration. The performer should eventually review his performance, thus giving himself a hint of what he should work on further.

This bachelor thesis deals with the Dvořáks family, a famous Czech line of luthiers, and with the development of violin making in Czech countries in general. The texts is divided into three chapters. The core of the work is the second chapter, dedicated to all four members of the Dvořáks luthier family. The first part describes historical development and tradition of violin making in our country. At the same time, it attempts to clarify the sources of the Dvořáks work, what they followed, what they left to their descendants and what was their influence on contemporary violin making. The last chapter explains the correlation of the art of violin making with the art of interpretation and shows that there is a close connection between them. The aim of the work is to stress the fact that violin making is a valid and valuable art which was brough to the highest level by our luthiers.

Edward Elgar and his cello concerto
Lee, Moises ; ERICSSON, Mikael (advisor) ; HOŠEK, Jiří (referee)
The repertoire of soloistic for cello is far narrower than those of other concertante instruments. So we tend to think that we know well of all the regularly performed cello concertos, in which the Elgar Concerto is among them. However, besides the concerto itself and some populare songs, variations or marches, there is little knowledge about the and work of the composer. Moreover, we have to take into account the massive influence of Jacqueline deu Pré, whose very personal and passionate performance has become an almost absolute point of refernece, above the annotations of Elgar himself. My work aims to give a broader approach to Edward Elgar ande his cwork, and to give an interpretation proposal, after having consulted the composers´marks and recordings, and contrast it with the opinions of other prestigious cellist ( Han-Na Chang and Kazimierz Michalik).

Mieczyslaw Weiberg and his music for cello.
Virglerová, Zuzana ; Petráš, Miroslav (advisor) ; Hošek, Jiří (referee) ; Ericsson, Mikael (referee)
My graduation thesis deals with the work of composer Mieczyslaw Weiberg and focuses particularly on his compositions for cello. In the first chapter I have given Weiberg´s biography so that we can imagine and understand the era and conditions in which the composer lived and composed. The second is about Weinber´s work. First I list the most important compositions of his entire work and then I introduce all the cello pieces. Dmitrij Shostakovuch had a very important influence on Weiberg´s artistic personality. Therefore one part of this chapter is dedicated to this artistic dialogue. Though Weiberg is still relatively unknown in the Czech republic, in other countries many new recordings of his music are being released. I mention here the latest ones as well as some texts about his life and work. It is prof. Josef Fejgelson who ispired my interest in Weiberg´s music. This cellist is a supporter and propagandist of his music and so I also want to introduco him shortly in chapter three of this thesis. Not to speak only theoretically about Weinberg´s music, in chapter four I am showing one of his cello compositions - 24 Preludes for cello solo, op. 100. I mention the circumstances of its origin and then I make an analysis of this piece. Finally I attach also some photos of Weinberg and his friends.
The life and work of Ladislav Kupkovič with focus on the selected compositions for violoncello
Mucha, Pavol ; Ericsson, Mikael (advisor) ; Bernášek, Václav (referee) ; Hošková, Dominika (referee)
The aim the proposed master´s thesis is the documentation of life and work of an important Slovak composer Ladislav Kupkovič (*1936) with focus on his selected violoncello compositions. In the first part of the author gives information about the personal development of L. Kupkovič as violinist - conductor - composer in the background of his chief musical compositions. He concentrates on the aesthetic analysis of the avant - garde compositions which played a significant role on the Slovak musical scene of the 60s such as " The Flesh of the Cross" and " The Octagon of Solitude, Boredom and Fear". He highlights the composer´s organisation skills ( the ensemble " Music of Today, the international festival of modern music in Smolenice modelled by the Darmstadt Internationa Summer Courses for New Music), which provided him the contacts and finally enabled his emigration to West after the invasion of the troop of the Warsaw pact in Czechoslovakia in august 1968.An important place in the thesis is occupied by the chapter dealing with the stylistic transfomation of the composer from atonal and serialistic composition to traditional, tonal way of composing with the use of consistent motivic work. In the following chapter the author deals with formal and harmonic analysis of the selected works of L. Kupkovič for violoncello from his tonal period. The analyses are illustrated by note examples of parts of the works. Kupkovi´č memoirs served as a valuable source of information for the author ; however, they have not been published yet. Another important source was the personal consultation with the composer.
