Cooperation of social and health services within the framework of mental health care with regard to the ongoing reform of psychiatric care

The diploma thesis deals with the cooperation of health and social services in the field of mental health care with regard to the ongoing reform of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic. The theoretical part of this work consists of defining the concept of mental illness, also deals with social and health services in the field of psychiatric care, discusses the reform of psychiatric care and cooperation of services. The empirical part examines what the current situation in the field of cooperation of services looks like, collects suggestions and tools for better functioning of these services and defines the views of direct care workers on the situation. The empirical part is performed by the method of questionnaire survey. The aim of the diploma thesis is to find out what the current situation looks like and what tools would help to better cooperation of these services.
The Process of Admission and Adaption of New Clients to a Retirement Home

The bachelor thesis is focused on admission of new clients to a retirement home and the difficulty of adjustment to this kind of major life change. The main aim of the thesis is to find out how retirement homes in the district of Kladno proceed in the admission of new clients. The theoretical part describes working with an applicant for the services, as well as the following process of adjustment, including its faults. The adjustment is also connected with the experience of stress, which is discussed among other related topics in this part of the thesis. The practical part consists of a research. Its goal is to find out how the admission process differs in different retirement homes in the district of Kladno. The secondary research question is finding out whether this process is described in their internal documents. To fulfil these goals, semi- structured interviews with social workers were conducted. The results of the research take form in the descriptions of processes of the admission of new clients and a summary of the workers' experiences. Destigmatization efforts as a task of social workers (in selected organizations)

(in English): The diploma thesis deals with the topic of destigmatization efforts as a task of social workers in selected organizations. Its aim is to describe the destigmatization efforts of social workers, focusing on individual attributes of destigmatization efforts and mapping the possible opportunities and pitfalls that social workers most often encounter in the long-term effort to eliminate stigma in people with mental illness. In this work we will cooperate with selected organizations whose target group are people with mental illness. The theoretical part brings a comprehensive view of mental illness, a description of the system of care for people with mental illness,and presents the issue of destigmatization efforts in the Czech Republic, including a description of destigmatization elements and campaigns that support this effort. At the same time, this part of the thesis describes the area of stigmatization of people with mental illness, manifestations of stigmatizing behavior in the public and social workers or generally the role of social workers in working with this target group. The motivations of the people with mental disease for change. The utilization of the advisory and therapeutical attitude in the social services

Bachelor thesis thematizes the strengths and assets of people with severe mental disorders, their abilities and skills in the process of recovery from their disease. It accentuates the importance of the intervention of the social worker and his or her professional helping relationship as support for the client coping with obstacles on his life journey. The work also notices the lay support of the client's social surroundings and contactswith people with similar experiences, which are an integral part of his or her recovery. The client's motivation and offer of a therapeutic alliance, as well as the development of his or her personal identity, increasing the quality of the client's life and his or her social status in society are the result of adopted coping mechanisms of change. Another factor with positive influences on finding of a new meaning in the client's life is social and material support in the areas of housing, education and employment. The story of recovery consists of processing the client's experiences of the preceding illness and, after a person is able to cope with the consequences of the disease, of incorporating a new purpose of life into his or her idea of the future. Dignified old age - evaluation of the project "Don't get lost in old age"

The topic of the diploma thesis is evaluation of the project "Don't get lost in old age". This project is focused on education and counseling in topics of aging. In theoretical part, I focus on description of current situation of old age and aging, summarize old age associated key problems to which the project tries to respond. I also describe the concept of dignity, clarify the needs of seniors and their families. I also mention the possibilities of social services that focus on the elderly or support the carers. The main topic of the work is to introduce and evaluate the consulting portal and all its activities. The project includes many professionals such as a lawyer, nutritionist, financial expert, psychologist and social worker. Range of areas of consultations is therefore wide. However, in order for the project to reach the public as much as possible, it is necessary to direct activities right, to promote the consulting portal and increase interest in the topic of old age and aging with it. In practical part, through interviews with experts and project participants, I evaluate the functionality of the project and I map where improvements would be appropriate. The workload of multidisciplinary team in a home for elderly in the context of the Biographical concept of care

(in English): This bachelor thesis is focused on the topic of mapping distress of multidisciplinary teams in the retirement houses for seniors with dementia syndrome. The theoretical part describes the basic concepts associated with the topic of this thesis. It deals with the dementia syndrome and its prevalence, retirement houses and the concept od formal carer within the multidisciplinary team. The biographical model of care is also introduced and the concept of the caregiver burden is explained. The practical part deals with evaluation of the caregiver burden of formal carers through quantiative questionnaire survey. The survey was conducted at four homes where the biographical model of care is implemented. The aim of this thesis is to map and define the areas of care where the caregiver feels the most distress. Another aim is to find out the differences in feeling of distress depending on the age and length of the caregivers'work experience.
The role of social worker in palliative team in hospital setting

(in English): The bachelor thesis is focused on the role of social worker in palliative care team in hospital setting. In the theoretical part, there is an explanation of the term palliative care and the place of this care and the role of social work within it. The practical part of this bachelor thesis deals with the results from semi-structured interviews with eight social workers from palliative care teams in hospitals. Using thematic analysis we identified six topics which cover job description of these social workers. It consists of: empathetic attitude, assessment of situation, providing support, counselling, sharing information, covering psychosocial needs. This description was compared with model of competencies for palliative care social worker created by EAPC. It was found that activities done by Czech social workers are mostly the same as model of competencies from EAPC, however, Czech social workers do not evaluate provided care and do not participate in research and education. Against their foreign colleagues they provide more practical help like arranging the application to hospice or home care assistance.
Shared Care for Elderly

This dissertation focuses on shared care of elderly in their homes in the municipal district of Prague 7. The goal was an understanding of the context and organization of the care, as well as how the informal care providers perceive their current situation and what is their idea of the optimal form of the care. Data for the analysis were gathered through means of semi-structured surveys with answers from twenty respondents who are informal care providers. Results are indicating that at the moment, the state of home shared care for the elderly is not fully satisfactory. Therefore, the conclusion includes recommendations which could contribute to the improvement of the current situation.
The education of employees of social services who work with clients with Alzheimer's disease

This thesis is focused on evaluation of the education of social workers in social services who work with patients who suffer the Alzheimer's disease. It is concretely about workers who do the direct service care within the special regime homes in Plzeň Region. The thesis consists of the theoretical and empiric parts. The theoretical part includes the description, symptoms and phases of the disease. It talks about forms and availability of those services for specific needs of people with dementia in Plzeň Region. The important chapter is concentrated on education of social workers with relation to the legislative area of education, its planning and realization, the training courses for the social workers with the direct care. The empiric part evaluates the training courses for the social workers and the way which are selected. For finding of the answers was used questionnaire rating, the aim was to evaluate the training courses from the point of view of social workers. How are these courses chosen was discussed with executives in the form of a semi-structured interview. These executives coordinate the education of social workers in these special regime homes.
