New approaches in metodology of French as a foreign language.

The diploma thesis entitled Phonetics in the teaching of FLE according to the action- oriented approach deals with the concept of phonetics in teaching French as a foreign language according to the new action-oriented approach. The thesis is focused on the diachronic development of teaching methods in the teaching of French as a foreign language (FLE). Further, the thesis focuses on the theoretical definition of basic phonetic terms, which we work in the practical part of the thesis with. The terms are briefly characterized from the theoretical point of view, from the point of view of the didactic, and subsequently the work defines the contents that should be included in the FLE teaching on level A1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. There are defined phonetic exercises and recommended practices in the teaching of phonetics of FLE. The following part is devoted to the diachronic development in the field of FLE phonetics evaluation, the definition of criteria for evaluation and the determination of the main types of evaluation. Important personalities of the didactics of French as a foreign language since 1950

This work presents the chronological development of foreign languages teaching methods, with a focus on French especially. With these methods, we provide an overview of the learning materials development. The aim of this work is to introduce the didacticians of French language from the 1950s who worked on teaching methodologies. The first part briefly presents the French language extension history and, then, the traditional, direct and audio-lingual teaching language methods details that we encounter before the 1950s. The second part deals with the second half of the last century. On the background of the audiovisual structurally global approach, we encounter the main persons linked to this method. Consequently, we continue with the communication approach and the Speech acts of J. L. Austin and J. Searl, followed by Daniel Coste and his"Niveau Seuil". The last part deals with the Common European Framework of Reference, followed by 21st century most representative didacticians. Approach to Phonetics in French Textbooks

This thesis deals with the changing role of phonetics in the history of teaching French as a foreign language. It provides a probe into the most significant methods of language teaching (the Grammar Translation Method, the Direct Method, the Audiolingual Method, the SGAV, Communicative Approach), including the current role of phonetics in teaching French. It also outlines a possible further development. The historical overview is then demonstrated on chosen French textbooks representing the individual methods, including a more detailed analysis of two contemporary textbooks. The analysis aims to provide information concerning the frequency of phonetic exercises, their focus, type and the use of phonetic transcription. Based on the theoretical background and the practical analysis, a list of inspiring approaches and techniques for current French teaching is made.
Teaching of French pronounciation aimed at nasal vowels

TITLE: Teaching of French pronunciation aimed at nasal vowels SUMMARY: The thesis deals with the issues of French pronunciation teaching at Czech schools. The theoretical part is aimed at teaching of pronunciation, the key concepts of phonetics and its importance in learning of foreign language. Then the thesis deals with the base of French phonetic system, especially the nasal vowels, the comparison of Czech and French phonetics and the main methods of teaching phonetics. The nasal vowels and their pronunciation are the starting point for the practical part - research in the field of the ability of Czech students to recognize and pronounce the nasal vowels in a good way. The research is based on 95 recordings of Czech students from different classes (from high school to bachelor's programme). TITLE: Textbooks of French as a foreign language KEYWORDS: French as a foreign language, didactic materials, a textbook, the division of textbooks of foreign languages, a teaching method, a language competence ABSTRACT: This Bachelor's thesis is called Textbooks of French as a foreign language and it focuses on analysis of French language textbooks. The thesis deals with the structure of French as foreign language textbooks, their contents and their historical background. The practical part of the thesis concentrates on modern French as foreign language textbooks, beginners level designed for adults. A complete list of all textbooks published from 2010 till today is presented at the beginning of the practical part. Furthermore, two textbooks were chosen for a deeper analysis. Allez Hop! was written by Czech authors and Totem 1 by French ones. The goal of the thesis is to describe and analyze the methods of teaching foreign languages as well as methods of teaching every language competence. Furthermore the thesis remarks on the application of the methods in modern textbooks. In order to reach this goal the descriptive, analytical and comparative methods are used. Philippe MARTIN The thesis, one of the French-Czech contrastive studies, deals with the issue of vowel length in Czech and French language. The first part of the thesis, which was intentionally written for a potential pedagogic use, introduces the comparison of the main phonetic and phonological characteristics of both languages, their typology considering vowels length and its development through the history of these languages. The second part, experimental, brings the description and results of several attempts which observe whether the French native speakers learning Czech respect the length of Czech vowels, further the influence of following consonants, final and initial stress and also the type of a syllable on the length of French vowels, both in the production of French native speakers and Czech native speakers learning French. Title of the thesis: Syllable Segmentation of French as Perceived by Czech Speakers Keywords: Phonetics, Phonology, Syllable, Syllable Segmentation, French, Czech Abstract: The study entitled Syllable Segmentation of French as Perceived by Czech Speakers, is concerned with the difference of syllable segmentation in French and in Czech. The aim of the thesis is to find out to what degree the Czech speaker's ability to segment syllables in French is influenced by his mother tongue. To answer this question various methodologic procedures are employed: observation, then comparison of Czech and French theory books which allow forming the hypothesis. Subsequently, the hypothesis is verified in a quality based research which examines the pronunciation of Czech speakers reading a text. Their syllable segmentation is analyzed and evaluated. The thesis is divided into seven parts: Introduction, 1. Description of the basic rules of the Czech syllable, 2. Description of the basic rules of the French syllable, 3. Hypothesis, 4. Production and perception of schwa (E caduc) in French and Czech. A contrastive study with pedagogical application

This thesis is a French-Czech contrastive study which deals with schwa (mute E) in the two languages. It is conducted in a pedagogical perspective. After comparing the principal phonetic/phonological characteristics of the two languages, the topic of the theoretical part is schwa in spoken French. One of the chapters concerns the treatment of mute E in French songs and its treatment in poetry. The second part consists in an experimental study ; it contains the description and the results of three experiments concerning the two languages. The acoustic realization of schwa (or a "schwa-like" vocalic segment) is observed through production tasks and perception tests of syllabicity in French and Czech words. The acoustic analyses seem to support the well-known hypotheses that it is not just the effect of the phonological cribble, but also a mental representation of the graphical form that is operating in the process of the perception of a foreign language. Furthermore, the representation of the graphical form seems to play a role for French listeners when hearing their own language. The articulatory habits of native speakers can considerably influence not only the production of a foreign language being studied, but also its perception. The Phonetics of Advertising in Terms of Perception Assessment

v anglickém jazyce Abstract The theoretical part of the dissertation thesis dealing with the "Phonetics of Advertising in terms of Perception Assessment" studies literature sources focusing on spoken utterances, namely on language elements of various Czech pronunciation styles and characterizes both radio as a medium and basic principles of the theory and practical aspects of radio advertising. It outlines the grounds for description of phonetic aspects at both segmental and suprasegmental level. It provides basic features describing phonetic characteristics of the Czech language in light of its orthoepic standard. Based on the results of a quantitative survey and namely the perception tests, the goal of the paper is to show potential applicability of phonetics in marketing communications, specifically concerning the variability of the verbal part of commercials reflecting different products and target consumer groups, i.e. to show the potential the Czech language is offering at present and ways of making the most of this potential in radio advertising.
