Fairy tales of Jan Drda
Blahnová, Barbora ; Špirit, Michael (advisor) ; Holý, Jiří (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with a literary onomastic analysis of toponyms in České pohádky and in the plays Dalskabáty, hříšná ves aneb Zapomenutý čert and Hrátky s čertem, by Jan Drda. The focus of the thesis is the relationship of geographical names and real places and the characteristics of the functions that, on the basis of context, emerge into the spotlight. Based on the relationship of the names to reality, we distinguish following toponyms: authentic, realistic and author's own inventions. Among the authentic names, there is a distinct group of geographical names that refer to the region where the author spent his childhood. Toponymy in Jan Drda's fairy tales is also put into context with a selection of other authors who wrote fairy tales. The thesis also explores the question of whether the toponyms are present in relation to the traditional classification of fairy tales as folk tales, novelist fairy tales and peasant fairy tales.
