Effect of physical exercise on ultrasonographic assessment of Achilles tendon region in runners
Benešová, Adéla ; Machač, Stanislav (advisor) ; Novák, Jakub (referee)
The master thesis entitled "The effect of physical activity on the ultrasonographic evaluation of the Achilles tendon in runners" aims to elucidate the role of physical activi-ty on the outcome of ultrasonographic (USG) examinations. Thirty-two runners un-derwent a 10km run preceded by a USG examination to evaluate and measure their Achilles tendon (AT). These findings were compared with the results of an identical USG examination acquired after the run. Statistical analysis showed significantly diffe-rent values for the following parameters: cross section area (CSA), m. flexor hallucis longus (m. FHL) diameter and heel fat pat compresibility (HFP). Subjectively assessed retrocalcaneal bursa size also showed differences in dimensions. Another focus of the study was to compare the client-centric state of the AT assessed by the VISA-A questi-onnaire with the CSA values and the size of the musculotendinous junction (MTJ) angle of the m. soleus. The size of CSA was inversely correlated with VISA-A values. MTJ angle and VISA-A did not show a statistically significant association.
Simone de Beauvoir and the feminism
BENEŠOVÁ, Adéla
The aim of the thesis is to introduce the existentialist French writer and philosopher Simone de Beauvoir as a feminist. After a brief introduction of her life and work in the context of her time and field, the thesis focuses on her view of women and everything that it entails to be one. It is based primarily on the essay Le Deuxi?me sexe (1949), and also on other texts, articles, speeches or interviews. It summarizes Beauvoir's involvement in the feminist movement and follows the development of her thinking about women and her views on key issues. In the end, the thesis tries to answer the question of whether Beauvoir's work is still relevant today and why it would still be appealing.
Eça de Queirós and Machado de Assis: a controversy over the novel
Benešová, Adéla ; Grauová, Šárka (advisor) ; Válová, Karolina (referee)
The subject of this bachelor thesis is a criticism of the Brazilian author Machado de Assis, focusing on the novels of Eça de Queirós. First, it is necessary to place both authors in a literary context and briefly characterize their works. The thesis focuses on one of the novels under criticism, Cousin Bazilio, which is described and interpreted. Other chapters deal directly with Machado's criticism. Two critical articles related to the Portuguese novelist's work are presented in depth. The reception of these articles is also included, demonstrating the possible reasons for such severe criticism and the elements that Machado did not mention. The characters in both authors' works are also briefly compared. The thesis also includes the author's own assessment, in which she briefly presents and comments on the findings from the previous chapters.
English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents
Benešová, Adéla ; Brůhová, Gabriela (advisor) ; Quinn Novotná, Veronika (referee)
The purpose of the present work was to analyse the English gerund and its Czech translation equivalents. The gerund and its translation equivalents were gathered from two parallel literary texts: Kazuo Ishiguro's An Artist of the Floating World, translated by Jiří Hanuš, and Joanne K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, translated by Vladimír Medek. For the research we used ParaConc, concordance software for multilingual parallel corpora. The resulting excerpts were then analysed from the linguistic point of view in order to provide a contrastive description of the English gerund and its Czech equivalent expressions; as a background texts were used comprehensive English and Czech grammar books. The study aimed to illuminate two related areas; namely the types of Czech translation equivalents of gerunds and the correspondence of the types of Czech translation equivalents with various syntactic functions of the gerunds. The analysis provided details about the regularities that occur in the translations of the various syntactic functions of the gerund. It was also proved that the translation of the English gerund into Czech is closely associated with the interpretation of the analytic language into the syntactic language; the confrontation of the language types may be used as background to...
Relationship of foot posture with exercise associated muscle cramps in athletes
Benešová, Adéla ; Procházka, Michal (advisor) ; Slabý, Kryštof (referee)
Bachelors thesis "A relationship of foot posture with exercise associated muscle cramps in athletes" is focused on clarifying this relationship in the context of theoretical knowledge of exercise associated muscle cramps (EAMC). Each subject of the experimental group (72 rugby league players) completed questionnaire observing their personal history, frequency and character of EAMC. Subsequently the Foot Posture Index (FPI) was evaluated for each participant. Results of assessment were statisticaly analyzed to reveal possible relationship among BMI, age, sport career length, history of lower limb injury, FPI and cramps frequency. A relationship has been observed between lower limb injury and the occurrence of EAMC. No other associations have not been observed.
