ThLic. Bc. Barbora Šmejdová Title of the thesis: C. S. Lewis and the Language of Modern Apologetics Abstract The dissertation thesis is devoted to the question of what kind of language we should use in contemporary apologetics to make Christian message communicable to unbelievers. This question is approached through the work of C. S. Lewis. After the introduction and biography of the author, the thesis provides the analysis of Lewis' gnoseological starting points. In this chapter, we are trying to show that Lewis is able to pay attention to the present accent on subjective perspective without getting trapped in relativism. The next chapter focuses on Lewis' theory of language. For his view, the theme of myth and metaphor is central. Together with Lewis, we come to the conclusion that human language is metaphorical, but we can still touch truth. This journey is not easy, though. To be able to make readers approach truth, the author has to live in truth. That is why the next chapter is devoted to the theological interpretation of imagination and shows that authentic Christian imagination is an integral part of each good apologetic text. The last chapter is focused on the genres of apologetics and, based on Lewis' work, presents their benefits and restrictions. Keywords C. S. Lewis; language of apologetics;...
Possibilities to Reframe the Debate about the Status of Homosexual Unions: LGBT Examined
Konopásková, Hana ; Šmejdová, Barbora (advisor) ; Salvet, Ondřej (referee)
This paper looks into why those actively opposing same-sex marriage are failing and emphasises the necessity to reshape the discussion going forward. Apart from pointing to underlying causes leading to the social changes epitomised in the redefinition of marriage, it will take a step back and assess the effectiveness of the classical argumentation in support of marriage. It is argued that those standing up against the LGBT offensive must be able to develop a much more informed and comprehensive strategy in that they improve their style and communicative effectiveness, broaden the context of the discourse, and shift its focal point. Chapter 1 reflects on the emergence of same-sex marriage and offers a brief analysis of week points of the counter-campaign. Chapter 2 reflects on the three dimensions in more detail: it outlines a more effective communication strategy; presents some consequences and of same-sex marriage and parallel development and finally establishes the concept of homosexuality as the foundational prerequisite for gay marriage. Chapter 3 examines the current normalisation paradigm of homosexuality from various perspectives. Following this, guidelines are proposed towards a more viable paradigm, inclusive of considering possible developments in the Catholic Church. Keywords...
The importance of values in the work of Albert Schweitzer and his legacy in environmental education of the Czech non-profit sector
Beňa, Lukáš ; Šmejdová, Barbora (advisor) ; Svoboda, David (referee)
As the central goal of the submitted diploma thesis, I set myself to approach the meaning of values in the work of Albert Schweitzer in the ethical and environmental context and to map this footprint in the non-profit sector of the Czech Republic. With this work, I would like to emphasize the importance of Schweitzer's ethics of respect for life for its constant relevance and monitor this influence across the spectrum of non-profit institutions focused on environmental protection. The added value of the work lies mainly in the presentation and own critical reflection of the main theses of this important figure of the 20th century and evaluation of its impact on the current state of environmental education, where for capacity reasons I limit myself to selected Czech institutions through a sociological method (a questionnaire survey). To support objectivity, I expanded the research with a probe into the media image of Albert Schweitzer in the Czech Republic.
Through the Profane Desire to the Desire for Eternity
Benešová, Hana ; Vopřada, David (advisor) ; Šmejdová, Barbora (referee)
Hana Benešová Skrze touhy profánní k touze po věčnosti. Abstrakt V sekulární společnosti není touha po Bohu častým tématem reflexe. Avšak právě ona vede k lidskému naplnění a integritě.
Spiritual poetry of Rudolf Jurolek
Junová, Rut ; Kočandrle Bauer, Kateřina (advisor) ; Šmejdová, Barbora (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with the spiritual poetry of Rudolf Jurolek from a religionistic- theological perspective. First, it determines the context of the poet's work through the delimitation of the concept of spiritual poetry and the characteristics of its contemporary form. The thesis then contains a detailed literary-religionistic analysis of individual Jurolek's poetry collections (Dobrovoľná samota, Život je možný, Smrekový les, Poľné vety, Posunok, Putovanie Jakuba z Rána, Hierografia) with an increased interest in spiritual themes and motifs. Subsequently, based on the results of the first two steps, the thesis determines mysticism as a suitable interpretative framework for religionistic-theological research. Among the focal points of Jurolek's spiritual search, nature and poetry, the thesis reveals the connection with mysticism, both on a thematic-motivic level through the figures of particular saints (St. Francis of Assisi, St. Hildegard of Bingen, Plotinus) and through individual phases of mysticism (awakening, purification, enlightenment). The thesis also finds a connection with mysticism in the poet's way of writing which, from the point of view of philosophy, recalls the procedures of Husserl's phenomenology. At the same time, the thesis observes where Jurolek comes closer to the...
