External U.S.Relations at the beginning of the 21st Century: America versus Asia
Smetanová, Eva ; Neumann, Pavel (advisor) ; Cihelková, Eva (referee)
As long as the states of East Asia can keep the growing rate of their economies, they can become the centre of the world economy in oncoming years. China and India have potetial to become regional superpowers and to dominate the world economy and replace the USA in this position. The USA must not lose their influance in Asia to remain the world superpower and creator of the world order. They need to find allies in Asia, that can help them to become a part of asian regional integrations and have influence on their development. The US goal is to carry through their own trans-pacific integration, that could be basis for Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area. The success of this integration indipends on U.S.-China`s relations and on the way how they will be able to solve their mutual disputes (chinese currency policy, commitments to WTO, chinese indigenous innovation policy etc.).

Diagnostics of electric discharges in liquids
Vašíček, Michal ; Mazánková, Věra (referee) ; Kozáková, Zdenka (advisor)
The main scope of this thesis is to measure electrical characteristics of a DC discharge in an electrolyte solution in order to evaluate individual discharge parameters (voltage, current, emitted light and sound). As a result of these parameters, a comparison between a diaphragm and capillary configuration has been realized using static and dynamic characteristics. Next part of this thesis is finding mutual differences and to set an approximate transition of individual configurations. For the study of the pin-hole discharge a polycarbonate reactor with total volume of 110 ml was used. It was divided by a changeable polyacetal insulating wall. The Shapal ceramic discs (thickness of 0.3–1.5 mm and diameter of the central pin-hole of 0.3 mm) were mounted in the centre of the insulating wall. This wall divided the reactor into two approximately equal spaces with one stainless steel electrode in each part. A DC high voltage source providing constant power supply up to 500 W was applied on the electrodes. The water solution of NaCl with initial conductivity of 570 S/cm was used as electrolyte. Time resolved electrical characteristics were recorded by a four channel oscilloscope Tektronix TDS 2024B. Measured parameters were as follows: voltage (by a HV probe Tektronix P6015A), current at ballast resistor of 5.13 , sound detected by a piezzo-microphone mounted under the reactor, and light emitted by the discharge was detected by an optical fiber in vicinity of the orifice. Measuring and processing of time resolved electrical characteristics present an accurate description of behavior of the diaphragm and capillary configuration. Voltage differences during the phase of bubble formation as well as around the breakdown point were discussed. This thesis contains a description of bubble cavitation and sets transition ratio between the diaphragm and capillary configuration approximately to l/d= 3 (where l is thickness of the wall and d is diameter of the pin-hole).

The Issue of Domestic Violence in connection with the act (number ) 135/2006
STŘELCOVÁ, Hana
Domestic violence has been an urgent problem also in the Czech Republic. The necessity to solve its complexity upon level of the state, not only through non governmental, non-profit-making institutions, is especially expressed by adopting Act No.135/2006 Collection of Laws, by which some acts in scope of domestic violence protection are amended. This Act allows the Police of the Czech Republic to banish an offender committing domestic violence from mutual residence for a period of 10 days and the Act has established a new social service the so called ``Intervention Centre{\crq}q, i.e. a specialized facility that provides help with people who are endangered by domestic violence. The objective was to find out the level of public awareness, knowledge of the Intervention Centres in the Moravia-Silesian and Pilsen Regions. Within the first year of that Act operating, there were the least banished offenders v. s. number of inhabitants, just in the Pilsen Region and there were the most ones in the Moravia-Silesian Region. The theoretical work part describes forms of violence in the family, historical relationship of violent actions with women, possibilities how to prevent them or advised help measures to victims of domestic violence. Further, it is focussed on a legislative solution of that problem area in the Czech Republic and some of European countries or the USA as well. The practical work part involves results of a quantity research that was aimed to discovery of public awareness of the Intervention Centres. The research was performed by method of questioning in a way of a questionnaire. The research was focussed on consciousness of general public relating to domestic violence, whether the research respondents have ever met that phenomenon or what is their opinion on information effectiveness of the problem area. The research demonstrated low awareness of the Intervention Centres of inhabitants in both regions. However, most respondents know what domestic violence is. Nearly one third of interviewees have got certain experience with domestic violence. Majority of respondents consider the information on the Intervention Centres and domestic violence as generally useful. This work may be used to increase public awareness of the Intervention Centres or on the other side to provide the Intervention Centres employees with general public{\crq}s reflection as to availability and activity of the Intervention Centres.

Cooperation of neonatal nurses and parents of premature newborns in the perinatal centres in the Czech Republic.
MEDONOSOVÁ, Kateřina
This diploma thesis addresses the issue of prematurely born children. It focuses on the cooperation between neonatologic nurses in perinatal centers and the parents of the newborns. There are 3 goals of this thesis: 1. To explore and describe the level of cooperation and support of the parents and their involvement in the care of the premature newborns in perinatal centers in the Czech Republic. 2. To find out which priorities and expectations of the parents of the premature newborns are. 3. To contribute with these results to the improvement of mutual relationship between a medic and a parent. To achieve the goals described above the methods of quialitative and quiantitative research were used in the empirical part of the thesis. The quantitative research was carried out in perinatal centers in the Czech Republic using questionnaires filled by the nurses who work there. The qualitative research was carried out by questioning the mothers of the premature newborns using individual thematic semi-standardized interview. The results of the research will be provided to all perinatal centers in the Czech Republic that cooperated and can be used to improve the quality of cooperation between neonatologic nurses and parents of premature newborns.

Optical properties of thin film scintillators
Onderišinová, Zuzana ; Kučera, Miroslav (advisor) ; Mareš, Jiří A. (referee)
In the present work we studied Pr, Sc co-doped and Eu-doped Lu3Al5O12 thin epitaxial garnet layers prepared by liquid phase epitaxy (LPE) on Y3Al5O12 (YAG) and Lu3Al5O12 (LuAG) single crystalline substrates. In the process of growth BaO - BaF2 - B203 (Pr, Sc co - doped layers) and PbO - B2O3 (Eu - doped layers) fluxes were used. These materials are considered perspective scintillators with high density, fast scintillation response, high quantum e fficiency and good chemical and mechanical stability. They are used in a number of applications in which high spatial resolution is required. The absorption, emission and excitation spectra of experimental samples were measured and investigated. Our attention was focused especially on the study of infuence of Sc3+ ions on the emission properties of Pr3+ ions in epitaxial layers which mutually contain various amounts of concentrations of dopants. The Sc3+ ions do not show any radiative transitions in visible and UV spectral regions, but they increase the scintillation response of Pr3+ ions. This phenomenon is caused by overlappig of the Sc-related emission around 275 nm with the 4f-5d absorption band of Pr3+ centers. By measurement of radioluminescence this energy transfer from Sc3+ to Pr3+ activator centres was con firmed.

Quality of life of patients with stenosis of aortic valve
ŠVECOVÁ, Valentyna
This bachelor thesis is focused on the quality of life of patients operated for aortic valve stenosis. The aim of the thesis was to describe and compare the quality of the patients´ lives before the replacement of the native aortic valve with a mechanical or a biological valve to the state three months after the surgery. The research was done in the Cardio-Centre of the Hospital České Budějovice, a. s. The patients of the Cardio-Centre represented the studied group and were selected using the simple deliberate selection method. The research itself was done using the ?postal survey? method, i.e. without the assistance of the professional staff. Two hypotheses were established: Hypothesis 1 (H1): The quality of life of the patients suffering from aortic valve stenosis is negatively affected in the evaluated domains of HRQoL; Hypothesis 2 (H2): The quality of life of the patients with aortic valve stenosis is better three months after the surgery than before the surgery. Health related quality of life was studied using the quantitative research method based on the Short-Form SF-36 questionnaire, Generic type, in the HRQoL methodology in eight domains: physical functions, physical limitations in role activities, emotional limitations in role activities, physical and emotional limitations in social activities, pain, mental health, vitality, general perception of health status. The received data were converted into the electronic form using the related software that assessed the average score of the quality of life correlative of the state of health. The results before and after the replacement of the aortic valve were compared mutually and also to the international standard of HRQoL. The results have helped to prove that surgical replacement of the native aortic valve results in an improvement of the quality of the patients lives. It has been proved through the research that the quality of life had been improved in all domains, what confirmed the H2 hypothesis ? i.e. the quality of life of the patients with aortic valve stenosis is better three months after the surgery than before the surgery. It has been also discovered that the quality of life of the patients with aortal valve stenosis is significantly lower than the quality of life in health population represented by the results of the Oxford research. This confirmed the H1 hypothesis ? i.e. the quality of life of the patients suffering from aortic valve stenosis is negatively affected in the evaluated domains of HRQoL. The bachelor thesis may be of benefit to the cardio-centres and the cardiology departments. The results of the research may contribute to better understanding of the patients by the staff, to improve the hospital care and to widen the patients´ knowledge of this fact. A colloquium for the nursing staff aimed at the quality of life of patients suffering from a cardiovascular disease could be organized. The thesis may also be used to stimulate further research in comparing the quality of life dependent on different types of replacements or on the age of the patients.

Sino-US Diplomatic Relations in Postbipolar World
Čtvrtníček, Ondřej ; Veselý, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Matějka, Zdeněk (referee)
My diploma thesis focuses on evolution of bilateral diplomatic relationship between the People's Republic of China and the United States of America. Both historical development and differences in political and cultural sphere are outlined for complex understanding of sino-us relations. The goal of my diploma thesis is to point out how the historical and cultural differences formed the development of bilateral sino-us relationship, how the development itself affected both states and the rest of the world and to refer to the possible future development. My thesis stresses the time period after the disintegration of the Soviet Bloc because in this period many questions and problems arose in mutual relations which are important even today. How did the mutual relations change after the Soviet threat disappeared? Which issues did become pivotal and how did both sides approach them? What can be expected from the future development of the relations? How have the U.S. reacted to the rise of China? Is there a possible conflict coming? With the progressive movement of the centre of international relations to the Pacific area there are many similar questions emerging. My thesis is divided into 6 chapters which are chronologically ordered. The main focus is on the relations after Tiananmen incident, the role of Taiwan, North Korea and rising China in mutual relations, and last but not least on economic and political questions.
