Biological and mechanical properties of titanium implant covered with hydroxyapatite and zirconia layers and the approach to the immediate loading of dental implants
Teuberová, Zuzana ; Dostálová, Taťjána (advisor) ; Racek, Jaroslav (referee) ; Jelínková, Helena (referee)
Dental implantology is a branch, which has started a rapid evolution over the last years. All of the experts dealing with implantation are focused on extending indications for the application of the used materials to reduce the time period of therapy. Coating of the implants is a possible way how to treat patients in a shorter time period with the similar results as following the classical Bránemark protocol.Hydroxyapatite is one of the most attractive materials for human hard tissue implants because of its close resemblance to the bone and the teeth. Its positive influence on the healing process called osseointegration is obvious. Hydroxyapatite is of a brittle nature and limits the applications as the main solid material for the dental implants. Zirconia ceramics have several advantages such as the high strength and it is frequently used to reinforce other ceramics. The concept of adding zirconia as the second phase to hydroxyapatite significantly increased the bonding strenght. In the dissertation pulsed laser deposition is shown as one of the coating method. The bioceramic zirconia samples were characterized by methods for thin solid film analysis such as X-ray diffraction, morfology investigation by electrone microscope and measurement of the film thickness. Afterwards we examined the mechanical...

New materials with high possible figure of merit ZT are of high interest as a promising candidates for thermoelectric applications such as energy harvesting. Miniaturization of such systems tends toward developing of the suitable characterization method with nanometer resolution ability. In our contribution, we present the development and experimental results of a simple scanning probe microscopy method for the relative thermal conductivity characterization. The possibility of the setup is demonstrated on the set of different thin thermoelectric layers grown from hot pressed targets by pulsed laser deposition on the reference Si substrate. All the measurements were performed on the commercial Veeco Multimode scanning AFM/STM microscope with home developed controller and by using PicoCal Inc. bolometer probes with tungsten resistive path. All the experiments were done in the air at the ambient condition. Additional sample treatment for the measurement will be also briefly described

Calculations of nanocrystalline diamond-covered waveguides based on amorphous silicon
Jirásek, Vít ; Prajzler, Václav ; Remeš, Zdeněk
Nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) coatings on planar waveguides (WG) in the IR region allow to design optical sensors sensitive to absorbers like proteins or other biomolecules. In this contribution, we present a 2D model of a multi-layer WG developed under FEM (finite element method) simulation software Comsol Multiphysics. The model is based on the modified wave equation solved in the frequency domain and includes optical absorption. It was found that for the single-mode WG working in the narrow region of 1550-2000 nm the silicon thickness must be 150-320 nm. It was found that in order to keep a reasonable signal attenuation, the NCD film must be prepared with the optical absorption coefficient lower than 10 cm-1, being a rather challenging task. Dependencies of the signal attenuation on the NCD film thickness, absorbing layer height, its absorption coefficient and exciting wavelengths are presented.\n

Multiscale design of advanced materials
Král, L. ; Million, Bořivoj
In this paper, the results of measurements of chemical diffusion of Mn in steel weldments are reported. Chemical concetnration of Mn an interval 0-15 wt.% Mn was varied. Alloys were casted in induction furnace under protective Ar atmosphere. Diffusion couples were annealed at 800-1100°C for 96-1.5 hours respectively. Measurement of Mn redistribution was done in a normal direction to welding interface using scanning electron microscope Philips SEM-505WDS equipped with Microspec WDX-2A. Diffusion coefficients of Mn were obtained by fitting experimental curves to the known analytical solution.

Hard-coupled model of local direct resistance heating of thin sheets
Karban, P. ; Mach, F. ; Doležel, Ivo
A monolithic model of local direct resistance heating of thin sheets is presented. The model respects all nonlinearities of the system such as the temperature dependencies of physical properties of individual parts of the system. Numerical computations are performed by a finite element method of higher order of accuracy and realized by our own codes Hermes2D and Agros2D. The methodology is illustrated by a typical example whose results are discussed.

Frequency modal analysis of liquid/gas interaction in cylindrical container covered by thin circular plate
Horáček, Jaromír ; Gorman, D. G. ; Griffond-Boitier, F.
The aim is to determine frequency-modal characteristics of the coupled system and to show when the fluid-structural and/or liquid-gas couplings are important for the dynamic behavior of the structure or fluid. A general theoretical solution is derived and the analytical-numerical results are partially compared with results obtained by finite element method (FEM) using ANSYS program code.
