Žáková, Eliška ; Mitášová, Monika (referee) ; Lahoda, Vojtěch (advisor)
This thesis deals with contemporary monumental and memorial production in the Czech Republic and focuses specifically on the theoretical side of the monumental genre. The first part systematically summarizes foreign research outcomes in the examined field, shows some concrete examples from abroad, and reflects the most progressive trends in today's world monumental production. The second part focuses on the Czech background. It is based on the previous theoretical findings and uses three different case studies to illustrate the core aspects of the monumental issue. The case studies deal with the Prague Memorial to the Victims of Communism by Olbram Zoubek, the Liberec Memorial to the Fighters and Fallen for the Country's Freedom by the artistic trio Stolín - Stolín - Mitášová, and the Rožnov Memorial to the Victims of the First and Second World War by Václav Fiala. Exemplary analysis is used for a more detailed description of the social, political, and esthetical context of the creation of the examined memorials, with a special emphasis on their potential to preserve historical memory. The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the creation of a theoretical basis for the contemporary thinking about the monumental genre.

The unusual memorial of the victims of Great War in Obříství in Mělník district
Pazdera, David ; Kodera, Pavel
At the introduction of the article the authors attempt to draw a basic standartization of the monuments and memorials of soldiers perished in WW I on the teritory of Czech Lands. Next they keep a thorough analysis of the growth and commemorative using of the memorial of victims of Great War in Obříství village in Mělnicko district. Their intentions is to find the reason why this memorial has an unusual form of a symbolic cemetery which is not typical for this kind of buildings. The reason for the form lies with the fact that the main person who was responsible for the inspiration and organisation of the growth of the memorial was the priest in Obříství Karel Peininger. This is also a very unusual feature of the memorial because the monuments and memorials in Czechoslovakia between the world wars were symbols of a secularized ideology of the new state.

VLASÁK, Richard
The thesis deals with the intellectual world of peasant in the first half of the 20th Century. It`s author specified his interest to the period from the beginning of the 20th Century to 1948, so he doesn`t consider collectivization and social problems of the Czech rural society after 1948. The purpose of the thesis is a historical-semantic analysis. A set of documents of non-official character served as the main source of information. These included above all the family chonicle-memorial of František Vrhel, that came into existence on the basis of his own notes written in the period from 1914 to 1961. Other sources include chonicles of the communities of Košice, Roudná, furthermore there are archival documents of official character e.g. The Košice school fund, stored in the State regional chancery in Tábor. Other documents used from this chancery are for example: The fund of regional authorities of Soběslav and Tábor and The fund of regional office in Tábor. Among the other indispensable sources can be counted still officially unreleased family chronicles, whose origin has to be concealed, furtermore belletristic and theoretical works, including contemporary press, dealing with the rural topic, used for the purpose of the semantic analysis. The main contribution of this diploma work lies in the semantic analysis of the word village which has been repesenting the paradigm for subsequent semantic analysis of the key words e. g. country, farmsteading, family, kin, farm land, land, nation. The author of the thesis found out, that behind the meanings there can be found many intellectual stereotypes, clichés, phrases but also elements of national corporative and patrimonial ideology of the member of the rustic status in the first half of the 20th Century.

We begin with presenting a historical research of the region whose basis rests in Kubisz's works, primarily in Pamiętnik starego nauczyciela. We also discuss the literary characteristics of Teschenian Silesia in order to pinpoint distinctive local tendencies and issues. We proceed to examine Kubisz's approach to Germanization of the region and his handling of nationalism. The analysis of the Teschenian anthem illustrates Kubisz's legacy for the future generations. In order to facilitate the understanding of the terms used in this thesis, the additional chapter outlines their meanings and connotations. Finally, we show the impact of Kubisz's works on local population and its understanding of identity by introducing separate study and interpreting its outcomes.
