Aspects of the Pastoral Care in the Pauline Congregations
Ravasz, Hajnalka ; Pokorný, Petr (advisor) ; Theißen, Gerd (referee) ; Luz, Ulrich (referee)
The thesis "Aspects of the Pastoral Care in the Pauline Congregations" presents some aspects of the praxis of pastoral care in the graeco-roman Antiquity and in the New Testament how it is principally revealed in the 1st Thessalonians. The main chapters of the thesis expose the chosen aspects of pastoral care like the function of imitation and examples, the role of the pastor in the pastoral act, the process of comforting or the caring congregations. But the research does not end with the comparison of the antic psychologic tradition with the Pauline practise; at least one modern social-psychological method is introduced in every chapter and they are used as a help for a different and sometimes maybe astonishing re-reading of the well-known Bible texts. The social connections analyzing social psychology helps the New Testament finding new methods and language to express the caring interactions between Paul and his congregations. This interdisciplinary thesis aims after binding the biblical texts with their contemporary context and the modern social psychology to reach a helping hand for the practical theology, mainly for pastoral care drawing the conclusion from the exegesis for our eneryday practise. In my work I am trying to detect school adjustment process in terms of the fresh scholar. First, I try to define the core areas to which must adapt the child entering school. This core area is here called contexts,. Then I focus on subelements of these areas of school adjustment, which result requirements for the psyche of the pupil. On the basis of observation, I identified three main areas, contexts: 1. the physical context, 2. social context and 3. school-task context. The physical context relates on such elements of the school adaptation, which are inanimated - spaces and objects. It is the need to learn how to orientate oneself in the new environment and to organize school equipments and tools. The social context is related to adaptation to new social relationships of child at school (other pupils, teacher etc.). And the scholl-task context is aimed specifically at school demands, work. An important regulator of school pupils to adapt to the first class is the clasp teacher, which manages the process. According to the demandingness of the process of adaptation to school, is my next major effort of identifying such expressions of...

"Very much a woman of reason and propriety": Ann Radcliffe's female gothic romances and their eighteenth-century contexts
Klosová, Kateřina ; Nováková, Soňa (advisor) ; Kolinská, Klára (referee)
In 1977 Ellen Moers in her Literary Women coined "Female Gothic" as a new term in literary criticism. In this she seemed to be laying the foundation for a new conception and specific way of thinking about women writers as related to the Gothic genre. Moers in her critical book on women's writing claims that the Female Gothic is "easily defined: the work that women writers have done in the literary mode that, since the eighteenth century, we have called the Gothic"1. Nevertheless, along with other terms, Female Gothic was quickly adopted by the feminist critics and especially during the eighties of the twentieth century its interpretation underwent distinct changes. As Avril Horner and Sue Zlosnik observe, since the late seventies "it has been increasingly acknowledged that women writers have made use of the non-realist Gothic mode in order to explore the problematic nature of female subjectivity in Western patriarchal culture"2. Thus, what was originally conceived of as a specific coinage for the Gothic novels distinct by their female authorship, became a term encompassing the specificities of both woman style of writing and of the woman character as a means for the exploration of female experience. The application of the term became more focused and consequently rather limited in the late 1980s. This was...

The honeycomb of the jati bee: Iracema as a translation problem
Nesvedová, Kristina ; Housková, Anna (advisor) ; Dufková, Vlasta (referee)
The translation of Iracema represents difficulties on several different levels. To cope with these, it is first necessary to understand the multilayered complexity of Iracema as a work of fiction. That is why, after a brief summary of the plot, I addressed its genre, composition, the aspects of style and, above all, its language. Every work of fiction is obviously influenced by the historical and literary context and by the circumstnaces of its creation. It was therefore necessary to put Iracema into the context of Brazilian romantism and, more specifically, that of nationalist indianism. José de Alencar uses different mythological patterns creating his Iracema; in my analysis of the mythical aspect of Iracema I focused on the impact of these patterns on the formation of the imagery of the Brazilian nation. I attempted to apply the results of these partial studies on the only existing Czech translation of the book. Jarmila Vojtíšková and Jaroslav Vojtíšek translated Iracema in an elegant and easy-to-read style, which, however, ignored some of the crucial aspects, thus making the translation only partially successful. They made every effort to make the story readable without difficulties of comprehension and they took great care to make the Brazilian wildlife, its animals and plants, accessible to the Czech...
