Is import of goods from european countries to Czech republic more or less influenced by changes in nominal and real exchange rates than in non european countries?
Vereš, Jan ; Stroukal, Dominik (advisor) ; Slaný, Martin (referee)
This bachelor thesis analyses the connection between import of goods from foreign countries to Czech Republic and the exchange rate changes. The initial hypothesis of this paper is to prove that the depreciation of domestic currency has positive influence on balance of trade balance. For this purpose there is eight econometric models which were created by using time series from years 2003 to 2016. These models are divided in pairs among four chosen countries. For each country two models were created that follow the development of trade balance between Czech Republic and one of the countries in two different time frames. All the models always use the real effective exchange rate, growth rate of GDP for Czech Republic and growth rate of GDP for one of the countries as explanatory variable. It is connected with the second task of this thesis, which is the analysis of the differences in the behaviour of the models that belong to the countries which are members of the EU and these that are not. The aim is to find out whether the existence of tariffs on imported goods from countries out of the EU causes visible differences in the behaviour of the variables that were included in the models. Based on the outcomes of all eight models the main hypothesis has been proved right for three out of four countries. In the models for Germany, China and France the relation of real exchange rate and trade balance came out as positive in long term, in short term the outcome was ambiguous. The second question of this thesis has been answered, but its added value is questionable. The final models for each state do show some noticeable differences and they can be used to determine if the influence of the change of exchange rates on trade balance is smaller or bigger in the countries where tariffs are used. On the other hand, from the results we can learn that the sample of only four countries is insufficient for the deduction of any conclusions.

Estimating the determinants of FDI in Transition economies: comparative analysis of the Republic of Kosovo
Berisha, Jetëmira ; Dědek, Oldřich (advisor) ; Benáček, Vladimír (referee)
This study develops a panel data analysis over 27 transition and post transition economies for the period 2003-2010. Its intent is to investigate empirically the true effect of seven variables into foreign flows and takes later on the advantage of observed findings to conduct a comparative analysis between Kosovo and regional countries such: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia. As the breakdown period (2008-2010) was included in the data set used to modelling the behaviour of FDI, both Chow test and the time dummies technique suggest the presence of structural break. Ultimately, empirical results show that FDI is positively related with one year lagged effect of real GDP growth, trade openness, labour force, low level of wages proxied by remittances, real interest rate and the low level of corruption. Besides, the corporate income tax is found to be significant and inversely related with foreign flows. The comparative analysis referring the growth rate of real GDP shows that Kosovo has the most stable macroeconomic environment in the region, but still it is continuously confronted by the high deficit of trade balance and high rate of unemployment. Appart, the key obstacle that has abolished efforts for foreign investment attraction is found to be the trade blockade of...

The rate of development variability of carrion beetles (Coleoptera: Silphidae).
Ejemová, Magda ; Jakubec, Pavel (advisor) ; Novák, Martin (referee)
This Bachelors thesis is focused on ecology and rate of development of insects, with special focus on carrion beetles (Coleoptera: Silphidae), of the genus Thanatophilus. The process of the development is affected by both biotic and abiotic surroundings. My thesis is focused on the abiotic aspect. Main influences on the rate of development in the abiotic surroundings have the temperature, moisture, photoperiod and the quality and amount of sustenance. Temperature is the most important of them all, as it influences the physiological processes inside of the insect's body. The relation between the temperature and rate of development can be described by temperature characteristics. Amongst the most important features are the lowest developmental threshold (T0) at which the development begins and the sum of effective temperatures (SET), which is stated in diurnal mean temperatures that are needed for reaching certain stage of development. The relationship between rate of the development and temperature can be described by linear or nonlinear models. The easiest and most commonly used model for figuring out the lower developmental threshold is the linear one. The linear model is convenient for its mathematical simplicity, but only the nonlinear models can show us the of development temperatures beyond the linearity. These models are used in many different fields, but mostly in forensic entomology or the agriculture. This thesis also suggests the methodology for future study of the rate of development variability for necrophagous beetle. Thanatophilus rugosus between geographically separated populations and for calculation of its developmental constants (T0 and SET).
