The draft of family house with focus on the ecological water management
Stupavská, Jaroslava ; Hyánková, Eva (referee) ; Kriška-Dunajský, Michal (advisor)
The aim of my work is an optimal design of a detached house focused on ecological management of rainwater and household waste water. The work is divided into four parts: the first part deals with the design of the family house, the second part describes water as a medium used in households, in the third part I am dealing with packed home waste water treatment plants, and in the last, the four part, I approach the issue of root waste water treatment plants. My priority is the design of the family house with a water – saving solution. For the designed family house in Velká nad Veličkou, sewage treatment is provided by a vertical root waste water treatment plant, accumulation in the pond together with the filtered rainwater and their reuse in the facility as service water and in the garden irrigation. In the practical part of water management is the design of a sludge management facility. As the grassland is located around the house, a suitable irrigation solution is the location of the sprayers. Thanks to this type of solution, it is possible to save considerable money in management of drinking water and also to improve the microclimate site where the designed family house was built. In my work I wanted emphasise each household is able to efficiently and economically handle rainwater and waste water that can have a great impact on the water cycle in nature.
Household Energy and Water use in Hawassa, Ethiopia
Legamo, Tarekegn Mamo ; Ščasný, Milan (advisor) ; Havránková, Zuzana (referee) ; Muchapondwa, Edwin (referee)
One of the consequences of increasing demand for water and energy sources is the depletion of natural resource bases while sustainable use of natural resources can substantially contribute to climate change and unwise use of these resources result in air and water pollution, as well as land degradation. This dissertation thesis examines "Household Energy and Water use in Hawassa". The main goal of the thesis is to answer research questions related to the patterns of household water use and energy source choice in the face of growing economy, socio- demographic dynamics and climate change factors-particularly in the context of local environment. As energy and water are the two important environmental goods, the pattern of their use has an impact on local environment, where the analysis of demand for energy source choice and water use has a significant impact, as households are a unit of analysis. A key approach we followed in this thesis is analysing of household survey data based on stratification of socio-economic and demographic variances, geographic location (urban vs peri-urban), and environmental factors. The main energy related data were generated from household survey to analyse the energy source choice based on the three main energy sources; electricity, charcoal and fuelwood along with...
The importance of water sources for space-use of mammals in African savannah
Homoláč, David ; Hořák, David (advisor) ; Brandlová, Karolína (referee)
African savannas are seasonal ecosystems experiencing a significant dry period each year. During the dry season, water scarcity has both, spatial and temporal consequences on the movements of large mammals. Some mammals can cope with these resource restrictions better than others. These water independent mammals predominantly feed on browse (giraffe, kudu, eland) and can be found further from water sources. However, these mammals can utilize areas near rivers as these areas provide food resources. Water dependent species are predominantly grazers and non-ruminants (zebra, wildebeest, elephant). Water shortage during a dry season restricts the movements of these species, which can be generally found in the vicinity of water bodies. Carnivore species (lions) react on the spatial restrictions of ungulates by adjusting their hunting areas to the vicinity of water sources. Both intra-guild (African wild dog) and inter-gild prey species (ungulates) develop anti-predatory strategies such as temporal and spatial segregation. African wild dogs use dens far from water points and ungulate species use to drink during daytime when lions are not active. Spatial and temporal segregation are also strategies to cope with competitors. Daily patterns of water point visitations can vary suggesting other factors...
Increased concentration of CO2 improves water use efficiency of hybrid poplar J-105 (Populus nigra x P. maximowiczii) in dry conditions
Trunda, Petr ; Vágner, L.
The CO2 concentration in the atmosphere, currently 390 ppm, is about 30% higher than\nin the pre-industrial era and its doubling is expected at the end of the 21st century.\nIncreasing atmospheric CO2 can cause global warming and change\ncollision distribution. We are most aware of these climatic changes\nin the field of agricultural production, whether in food production or biofuels. That's why\nis currently making great efforts to know how plants and ecosystems are\nrespond to the increasing concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere and for a longer period of drought.
