Kočíb, Jiří ; Kocum, Jan (advisor) ; Janský, Bohumír (referee)
This diploma thesis is focused on the study of the potential restoration of small water reservoirs within the framework of eliminating the effects of hydrological drought. In the theoretical part of the thesis, it summarizes the current knowledge about small water reservoirs and ongoing climate changes. It also focuses on the possibilities of their revitalization as part of the contribution of this renewal to the landscape. At the same time, the work also provides insight into the detailed physical-geographic characteristics and focuses primarily on the hydrological and climatological view of the issue of revitalization. These introductory findings are transferred to the practical part of the work in which the author deals with a case study that should lead to concrete steps to successfully complete the work plan. A comparison of the methods of measuring the contents and shorelines of individual reservoirs is also published in the results passage. The results of the work recommend the restoration of all reservoirs at selected locations and indicate possible further steps to deal with this result. Key words: climate change, water retention, small water reservoir, hydrological drought, Ploučnice river.

The game consists of a map that is divided into game fields of different types and the user can take actions on them that lead to an increase in water retention. During the game the user learns more information about this issue. The Unity game engine was chosen for the implementation. The game object models were created in Blender.
Interaction of groundwater and surface water under extreme hydrological conditions in the floodplain of the upper Lužnice river
Fialová, Petra ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Šobr, Miroslav (referee)
The object of this work is an analysis of the influence of extreme hydrological events (floods and droughts) in terms of interaction between groundwater and surface water in the river floodplain. The aim of this thesis is also the evaluation of the hydrological regime of the upper Lužnice basin and evidence of retention potential preserved natural floodplain. The selected objectives of the work were resolved on the basis of the values of groundwater levels and surface water in the area of interest. Based on data from underground wells and a digital terrain model, it was possible to create an image of the distribution of groundwater levels in river floodplains during selected hydrological situations. Data from surface flow was obtained from several habitats in the flow direction Lužnice. This has enabled graphically illustrate individual flood waves and characterize their size, speed and transformation after the passage of a preserved natural floodplain of Lužnice river. Carried out research has been confirmed retention capacity of the floodplain, which is most significant at flow rates slightly in excess of the flow capacity of the river bed. However, extreme floods or in periods with many culminations in a relatively short time leads to reduces water retention capability of the floodplain. In...
Influence of Water-Retentive Admixtures on the Adhesive Strength of Mortars
Žižlavský, Tomáš
The article studies the influence of viscosity-modifying admixtures with water-retentive function on the adherence of natural hydraulic lime-based mortars to traditional fired-clay brick substrate. The substrate was either dried or water-saturated. High water retention value and water/binder ratio led to inferior performance while applied on saturated substrate. On the other hand those properties were found beneficial on the dried substrate. The failure in the mortar during the pull-off test is far more common while the mortars are applied on dried substrate. Each of the admixtures studied proved to be useful in improving the performance of the mortar in at least one of the studied conditions.
Hydrological drought in headwater areas of the Ore Mountains
Vlach, Vojtěch
Changes in the hydrological cycle are one of the expected impacts of climate change. Until recently, Central European mountain ranges have not been considered to be affected by water scarcity. Nevertheless, recent years have suggested an increasing risk of drought occurrence also in these regions, which have a major impact on the water supply to rivers that drain them. The master thesis deals with the evaluation of hydrological drought in the headwater areas of three catchments in the Ore Mountains for the period from 1967 to 2018. The main aim is to compare the of hydrological drought characteristics in the catchment areas of upper Svatava River, upper Rolava River and Načetínský brook based on available hydrological and climatic data. In connection with this, the work aims to detect the long-term trends of drought occurrence in selected basins. Furthermore, the emphasis is given on the evaluation of natural conditions, especially the historical and current land cover changes in the study catchments. The results point to a significant change in the seasonality of the occurrence of hydrological drought in the second half of the studied period, when the streamflow deficits concentrate between August and October. Furthermore, increasing trends in deficit volumes were found in the catchment areas of...
Integration of drainage measures in stream restoration projects. Application in the catchment area of the Klíšský Brook.
Vláčilová, Klára ; Matoušková, Milada (advisor) ; Šobr, Miroslav (referee)
This thesis deals with options of integration of drainage measures in stream restoration projects in rural landscape. The main aims are creation of research on the topic and creation of database of drainage systems in the area of interest, upper course of the Klíšský Brook. Partial aim is physical- geographical characreristics of the area of interest. The positive and negative effects of drainage are presented and discussed, and then adaptation measures to mitigate the harmful effects are described. The overview of drainage in the catchment is a synthesis of map data from the Register of Soil Blocks, data provided by the Ohře River Basin, drainage found in aerial photographs and field research. There are both main drainage facilities and drainage pipes in the area of interest. 10 surface canals and 7 drainages flow into the revitalized part of the Klíšský Brook. While the canals are still functional, the drainage is clogged with sediment, overgrown with vegetation and causes wetting. The results serve as a basis for the design of adaptation measures in the restoration of the Klíšský Brook. Key words: hydromelioration, drainage, rural landscape, adaptation measures, restoration, water retention

Small water reservoirs in the Krkonoše Mountains: What would their regeneration bring?
Šádková, Eva ; Janský, Bohumír (advisor) ; Daňhelka, Jan (referee)
This thesis deals with the evaluation of influence of small water reservoirs on the extreme runoff events (floods and drought) in the upper Úpa River basin. It summarizes knowledge about both hydrological extremes and their manifestations in the basin of interest as well as about small water reservoirs in the sense of water retention measures and their possible importance during the periods of low flows or floods. In this thesis two localities of possible reservoirs at place of former splash dams in Obří důl and on the Lysečinský Brook were chosen. To assess the influence of small water reservoirs on runoff during two chosen flood events and two periods of drought, the hydrological model HEC-HMS was applied. The results of model simulation proved a positive influence of reservoirs on the reduction of flood peaks (except for a concurrence of transformed flood waves in the outlet that occurred during one flood event), but the effect was decreasing with the increasing catchment area and the intensity of precipitation and with smaller storage capacity of a reservoir. During the low flows, a positive influence of reservoirs was observed as well, relating to the release of stored water. However, the ability of a reservoir to reduce deficit volume and to balance the flow was decreasing with smaller...
Water retention: water balance of a model area
Kalianková, Kateřina ; Weiss, Tomáš (advisor) ; Vlček, Lukáš (referee)
Water retention in the landscape is a relatively broad topic and the are a number of measures that can be applied to achieve increased water retention. This thesis focuses on water reservoirs and nature- friendly measures in the form of revitalized watercourses. The aim of this work is based on a simplified calculation of the water balance in a model area to determine which of the retention measures is more appropriate for a given situation and conditions. The water balance is based mainly on the calculation of evapotranspiration using the FAO Penman-Monteith equation. The first part of the work contains a review of water balance and factors that affect it. The work also deals with selected retention measures and their functions during drought and flood events. The second part contains the calculation of evapotranspiration, determination of water balance, and its evaluation. From the view of the evaporation values, the presented calculations show the deep water reservoirs to be the most advantageous, in which evaporation in the model area is the lowest from all presented situations. The work also points out the importance of evapotranspiration as an element of water balance and recommends determining it for the initial approximation of the local situation during the planning of retention measures....
Water analysis and combating drought in the Rokytná river basin
Říha, Tomáš ; Vrba, Jan (referee) ; Veselý, Jaroslav (advisor)
This diploma thesis focuses on water management analysis of the Rokytná River and finding suitable precautions usable by municipalities when dealing with drought and lack of water in their administrative district. The short research at the beginning of the thesis summarizes problematic of drought and lack of water in the Czech Republic, including the current state and overall context. Next part focuses on the assessment of current state of the Rokytná River basin, based on performed reconnaissance of the basin and processed analysis of a part of the basin delimited from km 0,0 to km 16,7 of the river, between towns of Ivančice and Moravský Krumlov. This analysis concentrates on finding factors, which can contribute to extent of drought impact in this area. It also contains a suspended load study of the waterway, which writes up granularity characteristics and calculation of the amount of transported material from a suspended load sample, taken from the bed of the Rokytná River. The overview of suitable proceedings and precautions follows, based on findings in previous parts of the diploma thesis. The conclusion of this thesis consists of very suggestion of suitable steps and precautions related to particular localities in the Rokytná River basin. Target is to enhance the retention ability of the region and to minimize the impact of both drought and floods. The result of these actions should be the empowerment of environmental sustainability in this particular area. Conclusions of this thesis can be used by municipalities and other administrative bodies when creating an approach of combating drought and when deciding about the implementation of relevant precautions.
