Estimation of the consumption of injecting equipment by clients of Prague contact centers and outreach programs

Background: Intravenous way of drug application is the most common between problem drug users at Prague. Due Mravčík et al. (2015), the estimate is, that there was a 15 700 intravenous drug users at Prague in 2014 (7 500 pervitin users, 2 500 heroin users and 5 700 buprenorphine users). And that they spend about 15,5 millions of syringes every year (Švůgerová, 2015). But the data in Annual report on drug situation 2014 says, there was only 2, 6 millions of syringes distributed (Mravčík et al., 2015). This means, that Prague intravenous drug users spend many more syringes, that are distributed by low-treshold services and pharmacies. That is a reason of charting of the behaviour of drug users in connection with application of addictive substance, especially how the consuption of injecting material is connected with single type of drug user. Aims: The main aim of the thesis is to find out the frequency of drug application in intravenous drug users and to estimate the total consumption of injecting materialial depended on single of users typology (used drugs, frequncy of contact with harm reduction services…) Research sample: The sample consists of 155 clients of harm reduction services at Prague (3 contact centers and 3 streetwork programs). Patterns of buprenorphine use among clients of Outreach Programme SANANIM

Abstact BACKGROUND: Buprenorphine is currently the most popular opiate drug on Czech drug scene. There was estimated at around 6,300 users of buprenorphine (Subutex ® mainly), in 2012 according to the annual report of the National Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction. It provided 15% of all problem drug users in the country. However the issue of abuse of buprenorphine is discussed among experts rarely. AIMS: The aim of the study was described patterns of use of buprenorphine among clients Outreach programme Sananim. Emphasis is placed mainly on frequency of use, the daily consumption of buprenorphine and a description of common patterns of user behavior, from the purchase to the method of application of the drug. It was also examined subjective perceptions of somatic complications of users and frequency of use of other illicit drugs. METHODS: Data were collected by semi-structured questionnaire, which clients of Outreach programme Sananim filled with assistance of the researcher. For data analysis method was used grounded theory. Descriptive statistics was used subsequently and results were supplemented by testimonies of clients for illustrate. Patterns of cocaine use among recreational users: qualitative field research

Background: Typical users of cocaine are socially integrated individuals of higher education, higher income. They use it recreationally. It is a hidden population standing outside the range of addiction treatment. According to population research cocaine users in the Czech Republic create a minor subpopulation of drug users whose characteristics and behavior have not been adequately described. Aims: The primary aim is to describe patterns of cocaine use among recreational users using qualitative research methods. The secondary aim is to track how cocaine users value this drug in their lives. Methods: The concept of the study is based on qualitative research methodology. The snowball sampling was used as a selection method. Chosen respondents were given semi- structural interviews. The study sample contains 11 respondents, 7 men and 4 women in average age 26,7 (the youngest 20 years old, the oldest 33 years old) with a predominance of secondary or higher education. Data were analyzed according to the procedures of grounded theory. Results: Cocaine was consumed mainly during social events, mostly in night clubs in groups of friends.
