Posttraumatic growth after death of a close person in adulthood and old age

The thesis deals with the theme of posttraumatic growth in adulthood (40-60 years) and old age (70 + years) following the death of close person during their adolescence, adulthood and old age, whom they have been in a close relationship with. The purpose of the thesis is to detect the occurence of posttraumatic growth and to determine in which areas and how the posttraumatic growth manifests in eighteen respondents. Another goal of this thesis is to compare the outcomes with the concepts of Tedeschi and Calhoun, Janoff-Bulman, Joseph and Linley, Hana Valentová and with the research conducted by Finkousová. The theoretical part is dedicated to decription of posttraumatic growth, it's definitions, models and factors of influence. Further theoretical chapters are dedicated to the topic of death of a close person. The empirical part of the work uses qualitative research using semi-structed interviews with eighteen respondents and subsequent content analysis using open coding. Women's experiences with prenatal loss in the first trimester of pregnancy

The aim of the rigorous thesis was to describe and analyse the experiences of women with prenatal loss in the first trimester of pregnancy. The data for the empirical part of the qualitative design was obtained through an electronic document in which the informants answered open-ended questions by writing. The research sample consisted of 17 informants who had experienced spontaneous abortion in the first trimester of their wanted pregnancy and had not yet had any children. The data collected were analysed using qualitative methods and the women's experiences were described and interpreted using grounded theory. Women's experiences were explored in several areas: experiencing abortion, loss and grief, needs, sharing, social environment reactions, protective factors and coping with the loss. Women's experiences of spontaneous abortion included mainly shock, sadness, fear, anger, guilt and feelings of failure. Many women experienced miscarriage as the death of their baby and grieved for it. Women needed to be treated with empathy and respect by those close to them and by health professionals. This thesis is focused on senior citizens and their abillity of dealing with a loss of close relatives. In the theoretical part of the thesis I deal with evolutionary period of the elderly and its signs and process, that go in hand with phases and objectives of bereavement process. Also I mention its forms, uncomplicated and complicated bereavement process. Factors that affect them and reactions that can occur. Subsequently, I link together old-age and bereavement process and I mention the features, that manifest. In the end of the theoretical part I mention a ways of consultancy for the bereaved. In the practical part I present a research, that compare the knowledge from the theoretical part and its results. The research is carried out by narrative analysis, methodology is the interview with a respondent, who lost her father 2 years ago. Her bereavement process is recorded. The conclusion of this part and the thesis leads to the realization that theoretical knowledge agrees only partially with the results of research.

The bachelor thesis deals with the theme of posttraumatic growth in regards of death of a close person. It focuses on young adults, who have experienced death of a relative within their adolescence and adulthood, whom they have been in a close relationship with (a parent, grandparent). The purpose of the thesis is to detect the occurence of the posttraumatic growth in nine young adults and to determine in which areas and how does the posttraumatic growth manifest. Furthermore, to compare the outcomes with the concepts of Tadeschi and Calhoun, Janoff-Bulman and with "the model of the battle" used in the dissertation work of Hana Valentová. The theoretical part is dedicated to description of the theme of death of a loved one and to the narration of posttraumatic growth, its definition, models and the factors of infuence. The empirical part of the work uses qualitative research using semi-structured interviews with nine respondents and subsequent content analysis using open coding. The analysis has revealed seven main areas of posttraumatic growth: the area of relationships, ability to trust in the midst of a crisis situation, spiritual growth, professional direction, reconstruction of the relationship with self, the value of life and new possibilities.
