Moravcová, Hana ; Doležalová, Antonie (advisor) ; Miskell, Peter (referee) ; Fava, Valentina (referee) ; Kvizda, Martin (referee)
Economic History of Authors' Rights and Creative Industries in Czechoslovakia Hana Moravcová Dissertation thesis Abstract The thesis analyzes the impact of cultural policy on creative industries in Czechoslovakia. The first chapter is devoted to economics of authors' rights. It identifies inconsistencies in its three main assumptions, that undermine proper understanding of the effects of copyright and authors' rights. It provides a framework for optimization behavior of authors, that respects that market transactions between authors, users and consumers take place not on one, but on many markets where a work is spread. The second chapter reveals that the emergence of the Authors' Rights Act in interwar Czechoslovakia was the result of the influence of particular interest groups. The most important organizations are identified. Their mutual interconnection and linkage to the state facilitated their ability to directly influence the wording of the new law and its practical application. They used favorable conditions, like interventionist thinking of the society. Moreover, Czechoslovakia had to implement an international copyright treaty, part of the peace treaty signed by Czechoslovakia after the Great War. The third chapter consists of two case studies about creative industries in Czechoslovakia. The first...

The main part of this thesis is based on a logit model, which was used to evaluate factors leading to the most successful campaign with public interest. The conclusion discusses the potential for financing public and public be-nefit projects in the Czech Republic in the form of civic crowdfunding, and provides a summary of advantages and disadvantages of this way of financing. Marek, Tomáš ; Louda, Jiří (advisor) ; Kalabisová, Jana (referee)
The diploma thesis identifies the motivation of the land trusts in the Czech Republic and analyses the institutional environment, in which they work. Furthermore, it defines the factors influencing the activity and efficiency of the private land conservation and explores its relationship with the biodiversity conservation provided by the public sector. The method used is an analytical narrative consisting of the combination of oral narration and socio-economic analytical methods. Interviews with selected land trusts managers were carried out and original case studies were created. As emerged from the analysis, land trusts are created in order to complete the state biodiversity conservation, upon which they are dependent mainly as far as money is concerned. The land trusts have most of the areas in a long-term tenancy. They do not have enough money to buy the areas. This is also proved by the shortage in business activities in comparison with foreign countries. The situation of private conservation abroad was examined as well and compared with the situation in this country. The main contribution of this diploma thesis is the fact that it creates the overview of private biodiversity conservation in the Czech Republic and abroad as one of the first thesis.
Příčina selhávání politiky rozvoje venkova: případ vybraných nástrojů druhé osy PRV.
PRAŽAN, Jaroslav
This study was focused on reasons for ineffectiveness of agri-environmental measure, which is the policy in which the state compensates farmers for losses caused when participating at production of public goods. The work selected as a subject of the study agri-environmental contract and its characteristics and other institutions, of which maturity influence the effects of that policy. The main goal was to identify these characteristics of contract and assess their balance in relation to the purpose and subject of the contract and long term benefit of both sides of the contract. Attitudes on the maturity of the contract characteristics have been collected between farmers and state administrators in survey (as sites of the contract) on national level and also in four regional case studies. It was revealed that most of the contract characteristics were not mature enough to serve to long term benefit for both sides of the contract, which decreases potential effectiveness of the agri-environmental policy. These are for example: information availability, trust between sides of the contract, tendencies to strategic behaviour, power distribution in the contract, sharing risks in the contract, adequacy of compensation level. Control and penalty system was regarded as rather adequate. Not mature institutions and characteristics of the contract increase transaction costs of both sides of the contract and decrease willingness to renew the contracts in future. The results of the research are for the state administration a good base for improvement of the contract in order to increase effectiveness of the agri-environmental policy in question.
The Influence of the State Debt on defense spending in Selected NATO States
Hodžic, Faris ; Izák, Vratislav (advisor) ; Ochrana, František (referee) ; Holcner, Vladan (referee)
The defense spending plays a significant role in the decision-making process of setting up a defense policy. The economy of a state, its performance and development rank among the main factors that influence the size of this public expenditure. At a time of economic stagnation in the Western European countries, the ongoing public debt crisis affects to a ever growing extent all areas of public spending, including the defense. This work aims to contribute to the current knowledge in the field of defense economy and public finance by investigating the influence of the state debt on defense spending. The first part of the work is dedicated to defining the economy of defense and providing a brief summary of its historical development, followed by a discussion of defense as a pure public good. This chapter analyzes the issue of public debt and explains how the major schools of economic theory approach this problem. The second part outlines the previous research in the field of defense spending and debt, their development and the potential relationship with macroeconomic variables. The third chapter presents and discusses the results of empirical research that is based on the theoretical assumptions and models introduced in the first two chapters. The analysis was performed on time series from the period of 1978 to 2011 (34 years) for seven NATO member states: Belgium, Denmark, France, Italy, Netherlands, UK and USA. The empirical analysis was performed by the statistical methods of regression and panel regression. The primary hypothesis on the existence of a relationship between the public debt and defense spending was confirmed and the partial hypothesis that this relationship is negative was refuted.

Private finance and public policy
Schinasi, Garry J.
This paper articulates a logical foundation—drawn from disparate literatures—for understanding why safeguarding financial stability is an important economic policy objective. The paper also explains why private aspects of finance provide broader social economic benefits and have the characteristics of public goods. Unique aspects of finance are examined, as are the linkages between finance, money, and the real economy.
