Motivation to teach biology in relation to less popular biological topics

Biology in general is one of the moderately popular or rather popular subjects within science subjects, and at the same time it is often classified as a low-difficulty or even easy subject. Even so, there are areas, such as geology, mycology, protozoology and, surprisingly, botany, which are described as unpopular by pupils in 2nd grade of elementary school and multi-year high schools and do not leave a lasting mark on students or motivate them to explore more deeply. This may be due to a lack of motivation, interest, incorrect attitudes towards these areas of biology or a lack of belief or perception of these particular topics. All of the causes mentioned can also stem from the framework education programmes, and below these programmes in selected European Union countries are compared. The first aim of the bachelor thesis is to discuss the term motivation and to relate it to other terms mentioned in relation to motivation. The other objectives are to look into biological topics and to find which of them are among the unpopular ones among pupils in the Czech Republic, Finland and Slovakia. Teaching Biology at Grammar School using CLIL Method

The subject of this thesis is using CLIL in practice at upper secondary school. The introductory part introduces CLIL generally, it speculates over the meaning, opportunities and difficulties of using it at Czech schools. The practical part contains four units: Taxonomy, Geology, Animals and Genetics, which help teachers link biology with English language using CLIL. The materials benefit from the author's experience with teaching both English language and biology at upper secondary school as well as previous experience with creating teaching materials. The main aim of this thesis is to verify these materials are usable in real educational process and to let students evaluate how well the lessons went through a questionnaire. The verification has proven the materials are usable and students find them beneficial.
Viruses in Biology Teaching at Upper Secondary School (ISCED 3A)

1 Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the educational topic Viruses at a higher level of grammar schools. The theoretical part deals with the inclusion of the topic during school year, analyses available textbooks and other teaching materials, focuses on the theoretical side of the activation methods, and suggests teaching units. In the teaching units it mainly uses activation methods and methods targeting on critical thinking. In the practical part of the proposed teaching unit verifies in teaching, and evaluates their success in terms of the degree of remembering pupils.
The natural phenomena of the Petrovice region and their use in primary science education

This diploma thesis deals with natural science and homeland topics. It includes suggestions for three nature walks with a focus on reviewing and extending the curriculum of the fourth and fifth grades of elementary school. It has a theoretical part related to the curriculum, describes various methods and forms of teaching, suggests walks and includes didactic materials. The thesis aims to nurture pupils' relationship with nature through experiential learning activities, to build their knowledge and to familiarize them with Petrovice and its surroundings.
Natural interests of Klatovy and its surroundings and how can we use it for teaching biology at the first grade of primary school

This dissertation is oriented on how to use interests of my region in our schools. It contents elaboration of naturally orientated topics for teaching at the first grade. This work should be mainly used for pupil 4 and 5 class. Its part are two excursions, two walks and two lessons. For the planned activities are prepared worksheets with exercises.
