Effect of asymmetric load on the stereotype of running.

Title: Effect of asymmetric load on the stereotype of running. Objectives: The aim of this experimental work is to evaluace the electromyographic activity of selected muscles when running without load and with load on the treadmill, and the co- current assessment of the impact of asymmetric load on the lateral weight distribution. Methods: Six recreational runners underwent the experiment during which we monitored electrical activity of m. deltoideus pars anterior, m. trapezius pars ascendes et descendens, lumbar paraspinal muscles, m. gastrocnemius lateralis and m. tibialis anterior while running without load and with load on the periphery of the upper right extremity. For the experiment a motor treadmill at a constant speed of 10 km/h was used and a 0,5 l PET bottle completely filled with water was applied as the load. Changes of lateral weight distribution were assessed having investigated stance on two scales. The measured values were statistically evaluated. Results: Within the group of all the probands it was proved that there existed an impact on normalized average amplitude of EMG signal at left-oriented m. gastrocnemius lateralis. Title: Muscle activity analysis during the violoncello play Objectives: This thesis focuses on analysing and comparing specific back muscles of a bowing violoncellist. The findings can help understanding pathologic mechanisms and back pain caused by violoncello playing. It may be useful in choosing suitable preventive compensatory exercise as well and for future research. Eventually, the analysis could be applied in playing ergonomics and designing a proper seat. The thesis also aims on evaluating suitability of the chosen measuring method in this branch. Methods: The theoretical part reviews contemporary knowledge about musculoskeletal system disorders linked with violoncello playing. The practical part aims on evaluating data obtained from 3D kinematic analysis and surface EMG of specific back muscles of professional violoncello player during playing. Several conditions are assessed. Results: The experiment has shown that when playing a violoncello there is an asymmetric loading of the back muscles. Loading of specific muscles has is affected by way of bowing, string location and the seat. The experiment was done on a single proband, so these conclusions may not be generally valid. Effect of water temperature on the electrical activity of muscle

Title: Effect of water temperature on the electrical activity of muscle Objective: Main objective of this work is to determine the spatiotemporal changes in muscle activation depending on different properties of the environment. All this at a defined muscle power output. Measured by hand dynamometer. Methods: This is a case study. Is processed and analyzed the relationship of the forearm muscles against the aquatic environment (different temperatures - 15 řC, 24 řC and 35 řC) and against dry. Muscular power output is defined and measured by hand dynamometer. Muscular power output was determined as isometric contraction flexors of wrist and fingers of dominant hand. It all in three different modes. The research group were included 5 healthy individuals (3 women, 2 men). As objectivization method was determined surface electromyography. Findings: There is no influence of water temperature (15 řC, 24 řC and 35 řC) on spatiotemporal activation of muscle. It all at a defined muscle power output. The comparative kineziologic analysis of forward stroke on wheelchair and crawling

Title: The comparative kineziologic analysis of forward stroke on wheelchair and crawling. Objectives of the Thesis: The aim of the thesis is to compare muscle activity of selected muscles in shoulder girdle during forward stroke on wheelchair and crawling. Method: Surface electromyography combinated with kinematography analysis used synchronized video recording. Results and Conclusions: As the research shows, there is a difference in muscle activity (timing) between forward stroke on wheelchair and during crawling. It was proved that the activity of forward stroke on wheelchair does not have natural locomotive character. Monitoring of the core muscles activity in postural stability examination by Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization tests using surface electromyography in patients with low back pain

The Master's thesis is focused on monitoring of the core muscles and m. biceps femoris activity in postural stability examination by Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization tests using surface electromyography in patients with LBP. Trunk extension test, trunk flexion test and squat test were chosen. The aim of this study was comparing muscle activity timing, symmetry of muscle activation and average activation between healthy subjects and patients with LBP. The changes of muscle activation pattern were observed and average activation was determined. In theoretical part the principles of DNS, surface electromyography and the relationship between postural stabilization and LBP are discussed. Two groups were measured - patients with LBP and a control group, 20 subjects together. The onset times were measured and rank of activation for each test and for each subject was determined. Then the average order for whole group was specified. Measured data were evaluated according to Wilcoxon signed-rank test. In average activation there was analysed change of activation in time. Results were compared between two measured groups. There is significant difference between the two groups in the rank of activation of m. ES l. dx. in trunk extension test and m. EO in squat test. Use surface electromyography in the clinical practice

Surface electromyography is a non-invasive method of examination. Surface electrodes localized on the skin above the muscle record action potentials of particular muscles' motor units. Acquired EMG recordings enable to assess muscle activity, muscle fatigue or recruitment of particular muscles during the motion (timing) and muscle coordination. Modern EMG devices are compatible with a scale of sensors that record other biosignals and are able to synchronize them with EMG records. That's why SEMG is applied in neurology, physiotherapy, ergonomics, biomechanics, orthopaedics, prosthetics, sport and in other spheres. Title: Evaluation of EMG Activity of the Shoulder Girdle Muscles during Exercises with Thera-Band in Aquatic Environment and on Land. Objective: The main goal of this thesis is to determine a degree of muscle activity of upper trapezius muscle and other selected muscles in the aquatic environment and on land and to compare the values. Furthermore, to determine whether the upper trapezius muscle activates in the aquatic environment later than on land, compared to other selected muscles. Methods: This is the case of study, where the degree of muscle activity and the onset of activation of the upper trapezius muscle and other selected muscle is analyzed and then evaluated during shoulder abduction in two different environments using elastic resistance strength (yellow Thera-Band). As an objectification method surface electromyography had been chosen. To ensure the same set of initial conditions the abduction was performed in sitting position. The same chair was used in water and on land. Four female participants part in the experiment. Findings: The degree of muscle activity of upper trapezius muscle in the aquatic environment significantly decreased. Kinesiolgy analysis of function selected muscles of upper limb after brest augmentation

Summary: Title: Kinesiologic analysis of function of selected upper limb muscles after female breast augmentation Objectives: The aim of this research is to analyze the functionality and scope of involvement of the injured muscles due to plastic surgical augmentation procedure at pre-selected physical activities before and after surgery a few months later (specifically, three months - the time the patient left the recovery) using a noninvasive surface electromyography (EMG). Methods: A Case Study measuring method of noninvasive surface electromyography in combination with the method of temporal phase shifts involved in the activation of muscle movement, accompanied by a support method of integrated EMG. Results: There differences have been observed in the timing of individual muscles measured during performing selected testing exercises before and after completion of the augmentation plastic surgery operatios. Furthermore, the possibility of the loss of muscle strength has been detected by some measured muscles and this has the potential to take over functions of damaged muscles. Involvement of the muscles of the upper body collected at time of cross-country skiing and during simulating exercises

Title: Upper body muscles activity in V2 skating technique, double poling and on a skiing machine Concept 2 Objectives: Comparison of involvement upper body muscles during V2 skating technique, double poling and on a skiing machine Concept 2. Methods: Comparative analysis: the dates were measured by surface electromyography and 2-D video-analysis. Results: We found statistically significant coordination similarity by comparisons muscle preactivation and activation during V2 skating technique and double poling. Trunk flexors musculus obliquus abdominis externus and musculus rectus abdominis showed unlike the main propulsion muscles, musculus pectoralis major, musculus triceps brachii and musculus latissimus dorsi, significantly higher preactivation during V2 skating technique and double poling in comparison to skiing machine Concept 2. Activation of the main propulsion muscles on a skiing machine Concept 2 is significantly higher than during V2 skating technique and double poling. Skiing machine Concept 2 cannot be considered as a specific training method for cross-country skiing. Long-term application may cause disruption of double poling technique.
