Public spaces of the city of Brno - theoretical work
Lelkes, Ivana ; Adamková, Jana (referee) ; Kopáčik, Gabriel (advisor)
Master´s thesis adresses the issue of public spaces of inner city of Brno. These spaces have good prerequisities to become attractive places for everyday use or for spending a good free time. These prerequsities include for example compact city structure, well defined public spaces, walking city distances, presence of public and commercial facilities and distinctive genius loci. But public spaces in these localities often do not fulfill their own potential and stay as average free space inbetween buildings. Thesis suggests a detailed system for categorisation of squares and streets in the inner city of Brno and examines the reasons for potential non-fulfillment on these typologies, it tries to find out the problems of public spaces and how they can be solved.

Pěkný, Martin ; Šalanda, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Marková, Alena (referee)
The objective of the diploma thesis was to find out how an athletic club in Radotín functioned and was transformed mainly over the period from 1963 to 2010. The diploma thesis provides deeper findings about the relationship of local and all-national trends in sport as well as the institutional framework of sport in ČSSR and ČR. Nine research questions were defined to restrict the otherwise very wide problem area: Is there any similarity in the development of athletics at the local and all-national level? How does the performance of athletes change in an athletic club? How does the content of data registered in training diaries change? How does the catchment area for an athletic club change? How does the competition of an athletic club represented by other sports clubs or leisure time interest groups change? How does the hinterland and the equipment of an athletic club change? How does the approach of schools in the catchment area of an athletic club change? How has the institutional framework of approach to sport (athletics) changed after 1989? The questions were answered using quantitative and qualitative data. It was found out that the athletic club in Radotín was affected by a mix of macro and micro factors, such as the construction of a new stadium, the volunteers willing to work in the role of...

Migration within the Prague Urban Region depending on the age structure Abstract The Prague Urban Region is one of the most dynamically developing regions in the Czech Republic. The migration of the population, which has increased since the 1990s, has a great importance for the development of Prague's hinterland. The aim of this work is to describe and evaluate the changes of the age structure of the Prague Urban Region inhabitants and to describe the migration development during the selected period. The first part of this thesis deals with migration, its division and connection with the life cycle. The second part is focused on the development of the population and its transformation in the Prague Urban Region. The age structure comparing the development of the population in three different periods is also included. For this, individual anonymized data was used in the administration of the Czech Statistical Office. Time-space structuration of the Prague Metropolitan Area
Zevl, Jiří-Jakub
This diploma thesis focuses upon mobility which structures time and space of Prague's hinterland. The time-space regions are conceptualised and serve to explore the structure of suburban space. The positioning data from mobile phones are used to investigate tangential mobility throughout suburban municipalities. It happened in two time-sections which distinguish the working and the service commute. The method of the time-space regionalisation was introduced for this purpose. In total, 45 local centres were found. Moreover, their regions were delimited and two regions without cores were delimited as well. The resulting time-space regions are distinguished into three types: small inner regions, large outer regions and river regions. The case study in Dolní Břežany municipality seeks causes and consequences of centrality in local scale. The significance of the thesis lies in partial, but highly interconnected contributions in all three dimensions: theory, methodology and empirics. Key words: mobility, suburbanisation, structuration, regionalisation, mobile data, Prague, Dolní Břežany

New concentrations of job opportunities in the hinterland of Prague
Koloušek, Petr ; Novák, Jakub (advisor) ; Ouředníček, Martin (referee)
New concentrations of job opportunities in the hinterland of Prague Abstract In the past 40-50 years in North America and is currently also in some European regions we can see within the frame of suburbanisation process creation of new centers in the hinterland of the main cities. The development of these nuclei greatly influences the spatial structure of metropolitan areas. The aim of this work is to try to identify new concentrations of job opportunities in Prague hinterland which could be described as indedependent or cutting adrift and in this respect prove certain similarity to the metropolitan regions westward of the Czech Republic. Observation will be mainly applied to the development of the number and structure of job opportunities in the selected villages. These indicators will be helpful to identify the new concentration of jobs in the Prague metropolitan area. Subsequent analysis of commuting to work in selected villages partly answers the question of how the commuting links between elements of the Prague metropolitan area have changed and whether there is a noticeable trend towards the creation of new centers, which would include also non-residential functions, such as significant offer of an employment and services. In the case study of one selected municipality will be subsequently followed up...
The Influence of Military Area on Population Development of the Town Milovice
Kusovská, Marie ; Šídlo, Luděk (advisor) ; Fialová, Ludmila (referee)
The Influence of Military Area on Population Development of the Town Milovice Abstract The objective of this study is to describe population development of the town Milovice, which was influenced by the existence of a military area in its neighbourhood. There were situated several armies during its 88 years history. Each army, especially the last Soviet Army, built many housing units in the area. New residents have been moving into the town since the ongoing building reconstructions started, in the 90s. The residents are mostly young couples or families witch children, which is a typical phenomenon for suburban areas. There have been a significant rejuvenation of the town's age structure, for example in 2008 the average age was 29,8 years. The study is focused on the period of 1991-2008, in which the particular components of population development are described using selected indicators. Their level is compared with the level of the Czech Republic. A finding is being concluded that a high proportion of people at young age in the population of Milovice causes differences in the development of certain indicators, such as the total fertility rate, which was significantly higher than in the Czech Republic. In conclusion, there are outlined possible variations of the town's future population development.
The position of the town Říčany in Prague hinterland: a case study of families with children
Chrpa, Jiří ; Špačková, Petra (advisor) ; Mulíček, Ondřej (referee)
This master thesis deals with the question, whether the town Říčany performs functions of the local centre for its residents. Part of the text is devoted to the transformation taking place around the Czech capital. The paper uses the theoretical framework of Time geography. Using a qualitative questionnaire survey targeted at families with children, the work is trying to identify, where the residents localize their activities. The thesis also attempts to recognize the activity localisation mechanisms. Another goal was to find differences between various categories of the respondents. Children and adults working in Říčany usually localize their activities close to their home. Adults working in Prague have an elliptic activity space, in which home is however main station. One of the contributions of this work is the typology of four groups of households. In addition to long-term residents and two types of suburbanites, the group of "grounded residents" was defined. Although they have moved to the town rather recently, they usually live in the older parts of the town and localize there most of their life.

Posová, Darina
Urbanization and suburbanization in urban regions of Prague and Vienna Darina Posová Abstract This PhD thesis is focused on the research of the urbanization and urbanization processes in the urban regions of Prague and Vienna. It analyses, compares and evaluates the urbanization and suburbanization in the urban regions of Prague and Vienna before and after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The objective of the thesis is to follow several intersecting levels of comparison. The comparison aims at showing the difference between the urbanization process in a former socialist and contemporary post-socialist city and the urbanization process in a capital city the development of which was not influenced by the principles of a directive social system. The thesis consists of two major parts. In the first part, general approaches to urbanization and suburbanization research are introduced and the results of an analysis of Prague and Vienna urban regions are summarized. The second part consists of six published or submitted papers analyzing the spatial distribution of population, housing, new housing construction in Prague urban region as well as comparing urbanization in Prague and Vienna urban regions in 1980s and 1990s. The introductory chapter presents the focus of the thesis and the development of my approach to the...
