Media responses of literary works with the prison theme of Jiri Stransky

The bachelor diploma thesis "Media responses of literary works with the prison theme by Jiri Stransky" deals with literary works of Jiri Stransky which are influenced by his staying in Communist prison. The work deals with critical reviews of these literary works and with critical reviews on movies which are based on those literary works. It is based on contemporary reviews published in literary and other periodicals. A part of the bachelor diploma thesis is an interview with Jiri Stransky about literary criticism, circumstance and conditions of the origins of his works and about his other activities connected with his staying in Communist prison in the fifties. The interview is included in the annex. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of reviews is included in a practical part of the bachelor diploma. It is preceded by a theoretical part. In the theoretical part we shortly think about the importance of literary criticism but mostly important we explain the conditions that led to the creation of Stransky's work. Josef Cheth Novotný - personality and work

This diploma thesis is the first biography about a journalist and writer Josef Novotný, who was born in Chrudim of 1900, considered one of the culturally liveliest Czech towns at the sunset of the 19th century. He engaged in writing as early as at grammar school, gaining first journalist experience in regional press, above all in Středostavovský buditel. This periodical was published by Československá živnostensko-obchodnická strana středostavovská. In the following years he worked as a reporter in Nová Praha, Trn, Tramp, Úl and others. In the 30s he started cooperation with Melantrich, where he wrote for České slovo and Český ilustrovaný zpravodaj. Later on in the late 40s he was employed as a reporter with Masarykův list. In 1948 his membership in Sydnikát českých novinářů had expired and by that literally his journalist career, too. He wrote tens of books, some of which were of autobiographic and regional character. He is the author of literature for children and youth, theatre and puppet plays, detective stories and rodokaps. He elaborated many historical themes and literary criticism essays. Literary server and publishing house epika. Activities, development and future direction

The objective of the thesis is to investigate the project Epika, which includes literary website and a publishing house as well. Considering literary website, the thesis focuses on services offered to authors and its graphic design, characterizes the most frequent topics of works posted there and describes the activity of particular users. It takes into account the way how the website has developed within the last ten years and explains how Epika's owner Jan Medek influences the project. The chapter devoted to the publishing house introduces the books launched so far. It also compares the company with other small publishing houses in the Czech Republic with respect to the number of books published per year. Based on online research among particular authors on Epika, the thesis analyses strengths, weaknesses, possible risks and opportunities of the whole project and puts them into context with the owner's plans.
Personality and work of Karel Richter,author of the non-fiction literature in the medial and socio-political metamorphoses of time

The Thesis entitled "The Personality and Work of the Author of the Non fiction literature in the Media and the Socio-Political Metamorphoses of the Time" describes the influence of the various aspects of the communication process and its development (changes of the socio-political situation and the non fiction literature itself) in relation to the publicist, writer, historian and translator Karel Richter. He lived through the 1960s, the period of "normalisation" and the 1990s, when the market economy witnessed a rapid development - including the publishing sector. The work describes the metamorphosis of the communication process in retrieving information, the pursuit of political communication in relation to the non fiction literature and other aspects of this genre of the author's works. It focuses on the political and economic influences, which affected Richter's work, and the influence of his work in the media back on him. Critical analysis of the Czech translations of Lewis': The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

This MA thesis is concerned with the comparison of two Czech translations of C. S. Lewis' novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The first part concentrates on the description of the author's and translators' life as well as the background of creating the novel and its translations. One part deals with the film adaptations of the book. Then there are described individual techniques and methods of translation and its analysis. The second part analyses the book in general. Names used in the book, titles of chapters, selected passages and special idioms are analyzed in detail. It deals with different approaches of each translator and examines the usage of words, sentence structures and their text style. The thesis tries to compare and analyze all three texts in order to come up with the sufficient justification or disprove of all used items. How to write a literary story

This work deals with the methodology of the creation of a literary story. Its aim is to provide the reader with advices from literary active writers, who were somehow engaged in this issue in the past. This work is divided into four parts. The first part is concerned with inborn and gained dispositions which the author should have. The second part introduces the story and its planning to the reader. The third part is about the process of creation a separate story. And the last one the fourth part deals with the process of correction.
The Czech - German dialog at life and writings of nationalist, priest and educator František Pravda

Submitted diploma thesis describes the life of priest František Pravda, born Vojtěch Hlinka. He was well-known writer and founder of short stories with rural theme. The thesis introduces Hlinka as a writer, but primarily as a man of many other professions and interests. The way of life brought him to Hrádek u Sušice to work for an aristocratic family of Sturmfeders. Attention is concerned with mutual relations between the Czech patriot and four generations of German baronial family. Hlinka worked as an educator of feeble-minded Ottokar Sturmfeder in Hrádek´s castle. His extraordinary psychopaedics talent is compared with usual provincial and European contemporary standards. There is also depicted Hlinka´s political, writing and religion career and his other interests. The thesis doesn´t overlook Hlinka´s contacts with important representatives of artistic and political life, which helps to complete the picture of Hlinka´s personality.
