Legal framework of the species protection in the Czech Republic
Vítek, Tomáš ; Stejskal, Vojtěch (advisor) ; Derlich, Stanislav (referee)
Legal framework of the species protection in the Czech Republic Abstract The diploma thesis deals with the legal instruments for species protection of plants and animals applied in the Czech Republic. In the introduction, he defines species protection and its position in the framework of nature and biodiversity protection and addresses the issue of the concept of species in a biological and legal context. The following is a historical overview of the development of species protection in the Czech territory from the oldest legal regulations adopted in the 19th century to 1992, when the current legislation came in force. The general part of the work ends with an overview of current legal regulations relevant to species protection of plants and animals, namely international, European and Czech regulations. The key part of the work is devoted to the description and analysis of the instruments of general species protection and special species protection according to the Nature and Landscape Protection Act. The thesis first discusses the tools of general species protection, including the issue of invasive and non-native species. An integral part of the work is a brief excursion into the otherwise very comprehensive issue of import, export and trade in endangered species, which is regulated in particular by the...
Anthropogenic hybridization between selected cultivated and wild relatives from the genus Malus (Rosaceae)
Orlovská, Lívia ; Slovák, Marek (advisor) ; Chrtek, Jindřich (referee)
Hybridization is an important driver of plant evolution, but it can also pose a threat to the genetic integrity of species. A specific case is gene flow induced by human activity, or "anthropogenic hybridization." In addition to theoretical knowledge about hybridization, introgression, and the protection of genetic diversity, this thesis presents its importance and impacts using the example of a model system from the Malus genus. By analyzing the available studies on the subject, I compare and evaluate the state of European populations of the wild species Malus sylvestris, which is subject to hybridization and introgression mainly with the cultivated species Malus domestica. The data indicate a common hybridization between these species to varying degrees, with up to 37 % of hybrid individuals in the population. The human effect is significant, particularly through the intensification of landscape utilization, which results in more frequent secondary contacts between species and subsequent gene flow. However, the available studies about hybridization between these species are mostly local, and a comprehensive view of the issue is lacking. Indeed, in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, there are presently no comparable empirical investigations utilizing genetic data. Overall, it implies that it is...
The possibilities for sexual and vegetative ex-situ propagation of critically endangered floating water-plantain \kur{(Luronium natans)}
HODKOVÁ, Michaela
This diploma thesis focuses on the issue of sexual and asexual reproduction of a critically endangered floating water-plantain (Luronium natans) in ex-situ conditions. The first part of the work offers description of the species, as well as its distribution in the Czech Republic, description of the possible ways of reproduction (vegetative, generative) and its protection. The next part of the work presents our own experiment which is focused on seed conservation and cultivation of plants overwintered in exterior. In the final part of the work, we analyse the data to draw relevant conclusions.
Impact of the type of storage on seed germination of critically endangered grassy pondweed (Potamogeton gramineus) and endangered knotty pondweed (Potamogeton nodosus)
HODKOVÁ, Michaela
This thesis is concerned with the theme of preservation and germination of seeds of endangered species of Potamogeton, more precisely of Potamogeton gramineus and Potamogeton nodosus. The first chapters are focused on tests of preservation and germination aquatic plants, description, distribution and protection of Potamogeton which can be found in the Czech Republic. Subsequently attention is paid to the experiment itself, including to method of work and to tests which were statistically evaluated afterwards. Conclusions were made based on received results.
Legal regulation of wild animal protection
Křížová, Barbora ; Fabšíková, Tereza (referee)
Legal Regulation of Wild Animal Protection Abstract The dissertation deals with the protection of wild animals and its legal regulation. Wild animals are protected within the biodiversity protection and nature and landscape conservation, which can be divided into territorial and species protection, while the dissertation focuses mainly on the species one. In addition to the explanation of basic terms, the dissertation consists of three main parts, which focus on the international, European Union and Czech legal regulation. The first part on the international law analyzes the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals and the Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats. The next part on the European Union law mentions pertinent conceptual tools and subsequently the relevant directives and regulations. These include, above all, the Birds Directive, the Habitats Directive, the Zoos Directive, the Regulation on the Protection of Species of Wild Fauna and Flora by Regulating Trade Therein, and the Regulation on Invasive Alien Species. The third main part pays attention to the Czech legal regulation. First, representative conceptual...
How to become a critically endangered species: a review of the distribution and status of the crucian carp (Carassius carassius)
Janda, Benedikt ; Choleva, Lukáš (advisor) ; Lojkásek, Bohumír (referee)
The Crucian carp (Carassius carassius) is the native species of fish in European standing and slowly flowing waters. Thanks to their high resistance to adverse abiotic conditions, they also inhabited dead arms of river, ponds and floodplains. Despite its resilience, this species has been declining or completely retreating from the most of natural habitats since the middle of the 20th century. The negative direct human interventions into the species populations were, intensive fishing and the elimination of suitable habitats as a result of landscape defragmentation, which was part of flood control measures. Secondly, the human-made introductions of non-native species, the Gibel carp (Carassius gibelio), capable of gynogenetic reproduction, strongly competes with the native species for resources. The extent to which the situation of the native Cruvian carp is critical and ow it has historically occured is revised in the formo f literaly search by this bachelor's Thesis. Keywords The Crucian carp, gynogenesis, molecular genetic methods, cytochrome b gene, taxonomy, hybridization, introduction, microsatellites
The story of the European beaver on the territory of the Czech Republic
Kletečková, Aneta ; Kostkan, Vlastimil (advisor) ; Bartoš, Michael (referee)
This thesis deals with the controversial species of the animal, the European beaver, which is perceived very differently in the human society. In the history, this especially protected animal was extincted on the territory of the Czech Republic and actually his activites frequently come into conflicts of human interests so the comeback of beavers is not always welcome. The thesis describes the process of changing situation of the population of beavers in the Czech Republic and important aspect of their existence. The practical part of the thesis is pursued on the research, which is focused on the perception of the problematic issues of the european beaver by the experts in the Czech Republic. This research is based on seven expert interviews and also on the survey. The goal of my research was to gain comprehensive informations about the perception of experts and about their recommendations how to moderate the situation and harmonize the human - beaver relationship. The main contribution of this thesis is the cooperation all key goups of experts and primary the most important is that results from the research can be used as a material for the future expert debates. Key words: European beaver, species protection, experts, nature preservation, Czech Republic
