MIDI transducer design and cymbal colour upgrade with artificial components
Pospíšil, Martin ; Buzzi, Mário (referee) ; Jirásek, Ondřej (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with MIDI transducer design and cymbal color innovation with artificial components. The goal of the thesis was to design and fabricate a converter that converts audio signals from cymbals to the MIDI standard while capturing the widest dynamic range. Furthermore, a spectral analysis of several types of cymbals was performed and a program was created that adds artificial components such as filtered noise and additive inharmonic clusters to their acoustic color. The result of this work is a working prototype MIDI transducer and a program implemented in NI Reaktor software that allows the creation of acoustic presets with the upgraded cymbal color. The work met the stated objectives and provided a basis for further development in this area.
Experimental electroacoustic musical instrument
Hrdlička, Matěj ; Dlouhý, Dan (referee) ; Indrák, Michal (advisor)
This bachelor thesis deals with the design and construction of an experimental electroacoustic musical instrument inspired by analogue synthesizers from Dubreq -- stylophones. In contrast to the original stylophones, this Stylophone processes the audio signal in digital form. Stylophone contains two independent sound generators, which are two Arduino NANO development boards. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the historical development of the models of the original stylophones is described and the circuitry and sound generation method of the original Stylophone from 1968 is described. The practical part describes the circuit design, PCB, Arduino code and device construction. Also described are the different sounds generated by the instrument, their frequency analysis and a comparison of the sound character of the instrument with the sound analysis of the original Stylophone S1 from Dubreq. The last chapter of the thesis deals with the description of the techniques of playing the Stylophone and their notation.
VST granular plugin with experimental input and output settings
Kalinič, Jan ; Dlouhý, Dan (referee) ; Indrák, Michal (advisor)
This thesis discusses the development of a plug-in module that is able to implement granular synthesis with help of experimental methods of parameter value settings. Graphic designs and schemes were created in the vector graphics editor Inkscape. The separate plug-in was programmed in C++ language using the JUCE framework and VST3 technology. With a use of this module, granular synthesis can be performed over a predetermined sample, but also over the stream of an audio channel of a digital audio station. The module also includes blocks with other types of sound synthesis, which can also be modified in experimental ways. Thanks to its properties, the plug-in can be applied as an effect over one sound channel in the mixing section of an audio station.
FITkit Music Synthesizer
Melichar, Vojtěch ; Minařík, Miloš (referee) ; Vašíček, Zdeněk (advisor)
This bachelor's thesis deals with sound synthesis methods and with design of a synthesizer for FITkit platform. In the first part of the thesis, there are described methods of sound synthesis and the history of sound synthesis is also stated here. Next part contains a brief characteristic of sound chip SID 6581. In the next part of the thesis, there is a design of each part of the synthesizer: oscillator, envelope generator, voice and filter. Then, these components are put together to make up an synthesizer. Correctness of the implementation is verified by a simulation in ModelSim 6.6d. Individual components are simulated separately and then in mayor groups.
Audio synthesizer in FPGA chip
Tomko, Jakub ; Pristach, Marián (referee) ; Bohrn, Marek (advisor)
This thesis analyses methods of sound synthesis. Advantages and disadvantages of application of individual methods in music synthetizers are evaluated. Based on piano sound analysis, the suitable method for synthesizer's design is chosen. Synthesizer has been implemented in FPGA of Spartan-3 Development Board.
Implementation of digital sound synthesizer in VST technology
Paukeje, Ján ; Schimmel, Jiří (referee) ; Mačák, Jaromír (advisor)
This thesis is focused on synthesis of audio signals and algorithm implementation by the help of technology designed for real-time processing. Analyzing individual methods of sound synthesis, the MIDI communication protocol and procedure of real-time signal processing. It is developed an appropriate software simulation ,on ground of studying these aspects, implemented by using C++ language. A result of this work is sound generator supporting MIDI protocol as a plug-in module designed for Windows platforms.
Experimental Hardware Musical Instrument Based on FM Synthesis Controlled by a Contactless Controller
Vejvoda, Zdeněk ; Jirásek, Ondřej (referee) ; Dlouhý, Dan (advisor)
The focus of this bachelor thesis was a design and consequently an assembly of an experimental analog synthesizer. The beginning of the theoretical framework presents the classification of the electroacoustic instruments into subgroups with an emphasis on those which were essential for both the inspiration of the design and for the historical development itself. The subsequent chapter explores the sound synthesis methods and their musical attributes. Afterwards, particular fundamental personae of the history of experimenting with sound and music are mentioned, whose ideas were extracted for the purpose of designing this instrument. The practical part explains the motivation which was present during the work and develops it into a full circuit design. The creative process is supported by explanation of attached diagrams and required calculations. In connclusion, the assembled prototype is presented on a printed circuit board.
Digital Musical Synthesizer with Analog Control for Eurorack Platform
Klecl, Martin ; Číž, Radim (referee) ; Schimmel, Jiří (advisor)
This work explores the topic of digital audio signal processing for modular synthesizers and the design of digital oscillator for modular standard known as Eurorack. Introduction of the theoretical part is dedicated to basic terms and blocks used in modular synthesizers. The thesis also characterizes and presents the methods of sound synthesis. The second part of the theory concerns analog and digital signal conversion made by digital signal processors DSP, focusing on ARM with focus on ARM architecture. The practical part of the thesis concerns design and construction of the digital oscillator which generates periodic waveforms without aliasing distortion. The oscillator also allows several types of modulations and waveforming and the module has several inputs for connecting control voltages or external audio signals.
