Derivational Morphology of Czech on Large Corpus Data
Faltusová, Marie ; Dytrych, Jaroslav (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
Subject of this thesis is study of word formation in the Czech language. The main aim is to create a module acquiring derivations from data of the electronic Dictionary of the Czech Language. This problematics has been solved by constructing three-level processing based on dictionary data. The first level is to obtain derivations from lemma definitions, the second step is making groups of basic forms according to their similarities, and the third stage is the evaluation of derivation pairs by number tag of derivation class to which they belong. I have managed to get more than 4 500 new words and evaluate over 20 000 derivative couples. The module has become a full-fledged part of the Morphological Analyzer of the Knowledge Technology Research Group, working at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Brno University of Technology.
Morphological Analyser Implemented as FSAs
Maršová, Eliška ; Otrusina, Lubomír (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
This thesis deals with analysis of czech language and tries to enlarge limited derivative extension of morphologic analysator MA. Author describes actual state of this program and defines ways to find word formation connections, which serves to create derivation rules, which helps to automatically enrich knowledge of czech word formation. Illustrates how are similiar data grouped to create derivation patterns, which will make future work with new words easier. In the end, outcomes are sumarized and direction of possible future evolution is described.
Automatic Categorization of Unknown Words Based on Derivational Relations
Faltusová, Marie ; Dytrych, Jaroslav (referee) ; Smrž, Pavel (advisor)
This master thesis deals with the construction of a system for automatic classification of~unknown words based on derivation bonds. For this purpose, the system was designed to~extract derivative links based on electronic dictionaries and to create word-forming models from them. Based on this knowledge, it is then possible to incorporate unclassified words into existing nests formed from the obtained bonds, and their models, or create new ones. The reader will be gradually acquainted with the reasons that lead to the continuous transformation or expansion of the lexicon, the ways in which the words in~the~Czech language are derived and how to obtain information about the changes caused by this derivation process. This system builds on and extends the research of the branch of morphology in~the~project of a morphological analyzer of the Research Group of Knowledge Technologies, working at the Faculty of Information Technology of the Brno University of~Technology.
Neologisms related to the Covid-19 pandemics
FRIEDELOVÁ, Adéla
The main goal of this Bachelor's thesis is to find out if there are any new words coined in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, what is their frequency and level of novelty. First the work descries the global situation of Covid-19 pandemic between March 2020 and June 2021. Then it introduces the main word formation processes, explains what neologisms are, lists some of the examples of newly coined words/phrases and determines their word-formation process. In the Practical part it contains an analysis of the results of the corpus research. The research contains ten chosen articles from British and American online news platforms, blogs etc. and with the help of the programme #Lancsbox, own corpus is created. Then the work analyses the frequency of the newly coined covid-words and what is the level of their novelty. The work is written in English language.
Slang of Members of Česká tábornická unie, z.s.
VANČUROVÁ, Markéta

Twirling as a special branch of sports slang
KADLECOVÁ, Veronika
The topic of this master thesis is the analysis of language aspects of the group of people involved in the sport of baton twirling. In the theoretical part, the author introduces this type of sports dance, which is not very popular in the Czech Republic and is not in the public consciousness. The attention is paid mainly to the sociolects to which slangs are traditionally assigned. The material basis for this thesis is a partial corpus of slangisms, which was compiled on the basis of the author's own experience, observations and interviews with professional and amateur athletes and coaches (sports journalists and fans are out of focus). The excerpted material is subjected to a thorough analysis, both in terms of semantics, as well as word formation and etymology. The thesis also includes a dictionary of twirling slangisms, an excerpt from the competition rules and scoresheets of teachers. The aim of this thesis is to capture and describe the current state of twirling slang and thus contribute to the study of non standard Czech language.
