Mixová, Alžběta ; Hejzlarová, Eva (advisor) ; Vlčková, Kamila (referee)
This thesis focuses on the description of the child maintenance policy design in regard to adult students from single-parent families. The thesis sets a goal of describing various approaches to policy design, defining the policy design used in the Czech Republic and identifying the difficulties in policy design for young adults. The issue is viewed through the lens of public policy theory of policy design and also through the perspective of life cycle and emerging adulthood. To fulfill the research goals, I used a combination of desk research and qualitative data gathering from semistructured interviews with young adult students from single-parent families, who had the experience of not receiving child maintenance. The thesis presents several problems, which young adult students face and points out the shortcomings of the current policy design with regards to their target group. The thesis focuses on the effects of child maintenance non-payment, which affects both the financial position and the relationships of a family. In addition to that it describes the strategies affected young adults use to cope with the child maintenance non-payment.

The main task of the thesis was eventually to grasp appearance and risks of these social-pathological issues in case of single mothers with one or more children and without of any support by wider family (grantparents, etc.). The thesis required two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part would reader find the issue of single parenthood. The first chapter mainly explains who is single parent (single mother), eventually reasons which leads to this status. Financial backround and possibilities in labor market of these parents are very important part of the chapter. The second chapter is dealing with description of social pathology. What does actually mean social-pathological phenomena, causes of them and which potential prevention there are. The second practical part is focused on research, e.g. qualitative research strategy, the method of interrogation. There is no avoiding of explaining the technique of semistruktured dialogue which contains five fundamental questions leading to the goal of the thesis. The sources for this part were five cooperative female participants (single mothers) without any help and support from the wider family from the Budějovice region. The author of the thesis is concerning about the beginning of this status as a single parent, economical background and their position in the labor market. Finaly the thesis illustrated appearence of social-pathological issues by these single mothers and how strongly influence them and their children. There are eventually their own opinions which could serve as speakers of this actual theme.

This diploma thesis deals with social policy towards single-parent families in the Czech Republic with focus on alimony policy. I deal more closely with the standard of living by single-parent families and obligated parents. This problem is explored on the basis of theoretical framework called social construction of the target populations. Social policy towards single-parent families does not reflect their needs at the right time. Different approach could lead to improvement of their standard of living. The Czech society has not come with an agreement on reforming the social system to more benefit the single-parent families. Despite the fact that the concept of supporting single-parent families has been formally accepted by European Union and Czech government as one of the top priorities, this proclamation has not brought any real change to the single-parent families` standard of living. I try to understand a present situation/image of social policy towards single-parent families in regard to alimony policy with an application of theoretical framework social construction of the target population basis. For this purpose, I identify the real social construction of single-parent families and obligated parents in the political discourse. I examine the policy suggestions on alimony, and the...

Vytisková, Tereza ; Pavlík, Petr (advisor) ; Maříková, Hana (referee)
The aim of the thesis was to investigate how single parents is presented in daily press. Single parents is an important today social problem so I find this as an important research field. The media have the power to influence our thoughts and opinions. I wonder who has the opportunity to comment in the media, what the distribution of individual information sources are and who talks about this (laymen, sociologist, psychologists or representatives of various organizations). The research was conducted through quantitative and qualitative content analysis. This thesis focuses on the differences between people who talks about single parents and also tries to point out how "single mother" is displayed by media and what it means for us.
