Popularization of science in Czech audiovisual media with focus on astronautics

This thesis deals with the topic of processing and popularization of science, namely the field of cosmonautics within the context of the Czech audiovisual media. The first aim of the thesis is to critically analyze the content of selected episodes broadcasted on a science-popular program within the course of the years of 2021-2022. The second aim is to evaluate the use of popularization elements within the selected episodes through an application of suitable comparative methods. The dissertation is divided into a theoretical and a practical part. In the theoretical part of the work, a research was conducted based on Czech and foreign professional literature, with the aim of mapping and describing different approaches to the popularization of science in the media. This has been done by defining the terms science, mass media, scientific journalism and popularization of science within this context. An extensive part of the research is organized in a chronological fashion, encompassing the development and evolution of Czech scientific journalism, with its beginnings in the second half of the 19th century to the present day. Principles of popularization and mediacoverage of scientific knowledge on the Czech and American news servers

Rigorous thesis "Principles of popularization of scientific knowledge on the Czech and American news servers" evaluates and compares news published during three month period in scientific sections of news servers in the Czech Republic and the United States of America. The thesis follows room provided for scientific topics, the audiovisual features and theme agenda on NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, iDnes.cz and Novinky.cz. The results are accomplished through the quantitative content analysis which is supplemented by the qualitative semiotic analysis. The semiotic analysis determins compositional and narrative structures and the language features in the articles. It is very important to be concerned about the scientific journalism, as science is important in people's lives and, furthermore, it is the public who helps to support scientific efforts financially. Thus, scientists should be concerned about and aware of science communication in media.
Interview On the Topic of Science by Marek Eben and His TV Show Na plovárně

Marek Eben is a phenomenon in the role of TV show Na plovarne presenter, which we have observed for nearly 20 years in Ceska televize's broadcast. The talk show, atypical by its form, is unique not only in terms of choice of guests, but especially by Eben's interview style. How does he present a specific group of guests who come from academic environment? And how many scientists have already visited popular "Plovarna"? The following bachelor paper answers these questions and other issues. The theoretical part is opened by explication of interview as a journalistic genre and puts stress on the area of terminology, typology and authorization. Concurrently, the author pursues the utilization of interview in different kinds of television programs and with some overlap into next chapter, containing the Na plovarne show's characteristic and Marek Eben's profile, he points out controversial aspects of designation "talk show".
