School Assistant and His Role at Primary Schools
KLADIVA, Jakub
The school assistant is a quite new occupational position working in the field of primary schooling. Goal, with which this position was made is, to include pupil's parents and family environment into a collaboration, which should lead to more complex work and bigger chances for improvements, when it comes to their actual situations. Even though school assistants complete schools' professional teams, it has to be stated that it is not a pedagogical position like teacher's assistants. The function of the school assistant is not defined by the law, but only by active projects. The goal of this thesis is to analyze and describe the use of school assistants in primary schools, their education, tasks, roles and competences. Next, it's goal is also to identify similarities and connections with social work. For the practical part of the thesis a qualitative approach was chosen. It was done by half structured interviews with primary school principals and their school assistants. The evaluation was made by the method of open coding. It was found out that school assistants are, indeed, needed in primary schools, however there is still a lot to work on. Aspect, which is necessary to improve, is the one about direct work with families, because that is why this occupational position was created and families might not be realizing it's benefits. In the future, this thesis can be used as an informational source about school assistants and can motivate schools and the public to utilize it more frequently.
