Into Water, Naked!
Belopotocký, Maroš ; Zaiček, Martin (referee) ; Kristek, Jan (advisor)
Diploma thesis points out the phenomenon of abandoned Slovak spa buildings, whose prevailing characteristic is nowadays dilapidation and decay. Project focuses on the complex of Turzovské kúpele near the town of Gelnica. In particular, it deals with the building of the Pionier Spa House (1889), which is the best preserved building of the whole complex, and the building of the Praha Spa House (1889), which is, on the contrary, a ruin. The design reflects the decay of the buildings in different phases as a legitimate testimony to the social situation, history and interpretation of what the spa meant and stands for nowadays. The aim of the project is to create a concept of the spa with respect to the atmosphere, history and community potential of the place.
The aesthetic experience of ruins
Pechoušková, Klára ; Dadejík, Ondřej (advisor) ; Kaplický, Martin (referee)
Bachelor project follows the basic definition of ruins, dilapidated objects as specific object of aesthetics. Visitors are attracted by such places for many reasons and one of them is traditionally the hunt for a specific aesthetic experience. The goal of the project is to identify the quality of this experience through comparison with two basic types of aesthetic objects: artworks and natural aesthetic objects. Nature and culture are often considered two divided fields. A ruin is an object which doesn't fully belong to the area of artifacts but neither is a fully natural element. Primary literature bases on contemporary environmental aesthetics and is complemented by basic titles of so-called "aesthetics of ruins" or "aesthetics of decay". The end of the project discuss the use of the achieved findings in exploration of the aesthetic specificity of modern ruins like abandoned factories, hospitals, schools, hotels etc. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Gottstein, Otomar ; Bayer, Tomáš (advisor) ; Čábelka, Miroslav (referee)
Analysis of the vastness of castles and their depiction on early maps Abstract The bachelor thesis is focused on the analysis of the vastness of the 21 biggest castles in the Czech Republic and their depiction on selected early maps of Bohemia and Moravia. For the purpose of analysis of the vastness there are defined geometric criteria in the thesis. These criteria take account of both the overall layout of the castle complex and the individual elements of the castle layout. All of these criteria are also applicable to all analysed castles. The analysis of vastness is realized with ArcGIS software; main source of data are geodetic plans from National Heritage Institute, additional data sources include Orthophoto CR and Digital Terrain Model 5th Generation. The numerical results of the partial criteria, presented in the results of the work, make it possible to determine the largest castle in our country or the castle with the biggest area according to individual elements of the castle layout. The analysis of depiction of castles on early maps is focused on the development of the cartographic symbol used for representation of these objects, the frequency of castles and used nomeclature in selected maps. Another part of this analysis is a cartometric analysis evaluating the accuracy of the depiction of...
