Foster Care of Romani Children
MARKOVÁ, Lucie
This bachelor thesis deals with foster care providers and their motivation to perform foster care. The aim of the work was to find out what are the factors of motivation for foster care of a Roma child. In the theoretical part, I described the basic concepts related to the concept of alternative family care, including the legislative framework. Subsequently, I also described the topic of the Roma community, the Roma family and the formation of the identity of a Roma child in a non-Roma surrogate family. In the practical part, qualitative research was used, more precisely biographical interviews, which I supplemented by subsequent questioning. The communication partners were families who provide foster care, have at least one child of the Roma ethnic group and are themselves of the non-Roma ethnic group. Another condition for the selection of communication partners was that they have a permanent residence in the South Bohemian Region. All obtained data are analyzed in a way based on grounded theory. While processing this bachelor's thesis, I found that motivation can be different and different from each individual separately. The main factors of initial motivation can be external and internal influences, in each case the greatest impact on such decisions has the environment, family, friends or even professional life. Cooperation with the relevant authorities and social workers is especially important for every applicant for alternative family care. If the applicant is sure that his interest is also supported by the authorities, this decision is often full and fulfilled.

Míková, Dana ; Andrš, Zbyněk (referee) ; Pospíšil, Milan (referee)
The rigorous work deals with the reasons leading to primary school failures of Romany children. The empirical research focuses on the knowledge or the lack of knowledge of the native language - the Romany language and its potential influence at the initial lack of success of the Romany pupils. Further it deals with the issues of coexistence of the Romany community with the majority society and last but not least the extent to which the Romany language is being used and its future development or decline. A substantial part of the work focuses on the readiness, the school maturity and language equipment of the Romany pupils at the beginning of their school attendance and highlights the necessity of understanding, comprehension and acceptance of the Romany child by the Czech teacher so that he is able to follow his education as a part of the main educational stream together with other pupils.
Romany child in a preschool education
ŘEHÁKOVÁ, Lenka
The aim of bachelor thesis is to facilitate the progress of implementation of compulsory pre-school attendance of Roma children by providing theoretical information and relevant data for pre-school teachers. The work also provides stories of good practice, which are mainly implemented thanks to cooperation between kindergarten and staff in non-profit institution. The theoretical part focuses on the description of the current state of pre-school education of Roma children and some characteristics of the Roma, especially in connection with their education. The practical part defines two research objectives that build on each other. The first objective is to identify the reasons that lead Roma parents to take their children away from kindergarten. The second objective is to uncover possibilities that will first lead to the adaptation of a child in kindergarten and then to the remaining of the child there. Qualitative research was used to achieve the objectives of the research. There were used case studies as the research method and interview and observation as the research techniques. The research revealed either the well-known reasons, which are associated with low attendance of Roma children in kindergartens, such as financial reasons and mistrust of Roma parents, but also specific factors such as requirements of the kindergarten that the family cannot achieve or no respect for sibling relationships in the kindergarten. As emerged from the research, the factors, which positively affect the admission of Roma child to kindergarten, were mainly activities undertaken by pre-school clubs. Therefore the thesis recommends to promote cooperation among kindergartens and pre-school clubs, non-profit and government institutions, the Department of Social Affairs and Department of Education, as their cooperation could facilitate pre-school education for Roma children.

School advantage of Romany children attending tutoring program in SaSM - DDM ČB and their awareness of risk behavior
RŮŽIČKOVÁ, Jana
The Bachelor Thesis School results of Romany children attending a tutorial programme in the SaSM - DDM ČB and their awareness of risky behaviour responses to a frequently discussed topic of low education and qualification level in Romany communities and also to the high rate of risk behaviour occurrence particularly among Romany children and young people living in socially excluded locations. In the theoretical part I deal with the issues of education of Romany people including out-of-school education, then the specifics of a Romany family as the primary socializing factor. I specify selected forms of risky behaviour most frequently faced by the children. The Bachelor Thesis was aimed at describing the influence of the tutorial programme provided by the SaSM - DDM ČB on school results of Romany children and on their awareness of risky behaviour. The research results show that the tutorial programme only makes sense with regard to the school results if it is provided on long-term basis. However it has permanent influence on improvement of respondent?s self confidence, thanks to which the children are not afraid of putting their hands up in class and they also feel more successful. The Centre is also involved in the field of primary prevention of risky behaviour. The staff strives for teaching the respondents to use their free time in active and meaningful manners. The SaSM - DDM ČB offers an alternative to spending free time in risky manners. Apart from the research results and setting the research hypotheses this Thesis contributes to pointing out the importance of non-governmental non-profit organizations that help Romany children in the field of risky behaviour prevention and out-of-school education.
Perception of social standards and social pathology by Romani children of lower school age
ČECHOVÁ, Veronika
This bachelor thesis points out selected social pathological phenomena and their perception by Romani and non-Romani children of lower school age. The thesis is divided into a theoretical and a practical parts. In the theoretical part I first focused on definition of the standard and the value system of the Romani. Then I concentrated on the term social pathology and I specify selected social pathologies, namely the terms aggressiveness, alcoholism, smoking, pathological gambling, theft and drugs, and relation of the Romani minority to these social pathological phenomena. In the last part I deal with a lower school age child, his/her physical, mental and social development. A characteristic of a Romani child is also a part of this chapter. The aim of the research performed was to find whether perception of selected social pathologies by Romani children differs from perception of these social pathologies by non-Romani children of younger school age. I used the methods and techniques of qualitative research in the practical part, namely the method of questioning and technique of semi-structured interview. The research sample consisted of ten Romani children of younger school age, a complementary sample consisted of ten non-Romani children of younger school age. The research was performed at two primary schools in Jindřichův Hradec. The research led to a finding what relation Romani children of younger school age have to selected social pathologies compared to non-Romani children of younger school age, what their approach to addiction is and whether the selected social pathological phenomena occur in the respondents? families. The results of the research confirm that permanent cooperation on preventive programmes for young people at primary schools and youth centres is necessary, particularly focusing on Romani pupils and their families, where social pathological phenomena occur. Introduction of preventive programmes into practice not only with the assistance of teachers, but also of the wide public, would make the beginning of puberty easier for children of younger school age, without threatening external influences.

In the practical part there are expressed the views of community and social workers of Cheiron T. The main purpose of my bachelor´s thesis is to find out Romany children´s attitude and motivation to education - how they are influenced by culture, family, school and community centre which they attend. The practical part ends with presentation and interpretation of children´s interviews. At the end of my bachelor´s thesis there is a comparison of children and community workers opinions and my practical experience with the opinions I have found in the literature.
