Crossing the Mexican-American Border in Cormac McCarthy's Work

The thesis initially focuses on the origin and history of Mexican-American border, especially in the state of Texas, and its current situation. Cormac McCarthy is introduced as an author Mexican-American borderlands. Explanations of the terminology behind borderlands, border, and La Frontera from the literary point of view is given in the thesis core. Space of border in literature is explained trough works of Cormac McCarthy, namely through the Border Trilogy. The thesis also consists of chapter dedicated to the novel The Road from aspects of its space description.

Special attention is paid on describing the Jizera Mountains that play a pivotal role in his creation. The first chapter formulates the subject matter and establishes the goals of the thesis. The second chapter takes a brief look at the Leutelt's life and his writing. The third chapter covers introduction of specific works from three main areas of his art, which were fictional prose, legends and natural works. The final chapter summarizes the results and insights of the thesis.

RESUMÉ V ANGLICKÉM JAZYCE Slaný is a town not only with a long history, but also with rich cultural and social traditions. It has also become the birthplace, home town or temporary place of engagement for many eminent artists and writers of the Czech cultural scene. At present, the royal town of Slaný represents a natural administrative and social centre of its neighbourhood. Václav Štech, an outstanding teacher, writer, playwright and organizer, spent many years of his fecund life here. His tireless activity and enthusiasm have left a trace in the history of all Slaný societies in the last quarter of 19thcentury and the town of Slaný has to thank him for the opening of the municipal theatre and library, laying the foundations of the municipal museum and creating the tradition of the Slaný yearbook called Slánský obzor (Slaný Horizon). Štech celebrated his home town in his numerous literary works. As a beginning writer, he focused his attention to theatre; then he focused more on writing humorous short stories and bulky novels. In his novels he captured the life of a small town at the end of 19th century. Štech's humorous writings are typical for its sharp criticism of provincial conditions, ironic view and caricature of the main characters (small-town figures). Literature of the microregion of Krnovsko in teaching at the 2nd level of elementary school

This bachelor thesis contains materials, which help to involve the literature of Krnov microregion in the class at the secondary school. Theoretical part of the thesis is about Krnov microregion and ethnic changes, which happened during the years of 20th century. The knowledge of this theoretical part provides self-study materials for teacher. The practical part contains worksheets with samples of work by writers connected to Krnov. There are an introduction of the writer, methodological guidelines for teachers and worksheets answer key. The aim of worksheets is to know the regional identity of the student and meet the school syllabus through the literature theory class. The work with regional literature can be applied to any class at the secondary school due to worksheets versatility. The area of Sedlčany in literary legends (based on chosen literary works)

The diploma thesis looks into literary legends of the Sedlčany and its closest area which is defined by cultural and geographical demarcation of the region. The four-volume Legends of Sedlčany area by regional author Karel Bazal are understood as the essential material of the thesis. The diploma thesis also aims to briefly summarize life and work of this author as well as to place him to literary context of the period. Focus will be paid to interpretation of characters as well as to interpretation of legends which will be based on assorted heuristic material. The diploma thesis will not only use theory of regional literature and genologic demarcation of legends, but it will also include photos of chosen places in Sedlčany area and design of project based learning based on interdisciplinary relations (prepared for secondary school class).

Regional Literature as a Source of Cultural Identity; Regions Domažlicko and Náchodsko

Regional literature is an integral part of literary productions and one of the most signifiant elements of intangible culture. The diploma thesis "Regional Literature as a Source of Cultural Identity; Regions Domažlicko and Náchodsko" is trying to realize meaning and a function of this specific type of literature, whose main principle is a close relation to a particular territory. The main aim is to map the appearence of regional literature within a specific region. For these purposes are choosen regions Domažlicko and Náchodsko, in which regional literature has a long and strong tradition. At the same time is puting emphasis on the activity of libraries and regional publishers as subjects which have significantly contributed to the spread and preservation of regional literature. At the end the obtained results are summarized and on the basis these results is possible to draw general conclusions about the present position and functions of regional literature.
