Dying in Medical Institution from the Point of View of Nursing Staff
VÁCHOVÁ, Agáta
The bachelor's thesis deals with dying in medical institution from the point of view of nursing staff. The thesis is divided into theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part of the thesis contains basic information and concepts related to dying and death, the impact of dying on nursing staff and the specifics of nursing care for dying patients. The main aim was to find out what support the nursing staff receives from the management and how the nursing staff provide for the needs of the dying patient. In order to achieve these objectives, five research questions were identified. The empirical part of the thesis was done through a qualitative research investigation in the form of a semi-structured interview, which included twenty-one questions. The research population consisted of nurse practitioners and general nurses in the selected hospital wards. The collected information was then processed in the form of open coding and then categorized into seven categories. From the results, it is clear that psychological support from the management is mainly provided to the nursing staff by the station or head nurse. In case of psychological need, the nursing staff refer more to family and friends. A large number of informants were identified with burnout syndrome, which can result from a lack of psychological support from the management, that could be provided for example in the form of seminars or through visiting a psychologist. The second objective revealed that the pain control, hygienic care adapted to the patient's health condition and the provision of food according to the patient's wishes are essential to ensure biological needs. The support from the staff is important to meet psychological needs, which is often neglected due to the lack of time and staff. The social needs are mainly provided by the family of the dying patient through visits or by a hospital chaplain. The most common obstacle is the arrangement of patient rooms, which is not suitable for ensuring the privacy of the dying patient and his/her family. The results of the thesis research were used to form the basis of a workshop for nurses.

Another shortcoming resulting from our research was the fact that patients had not have enough psychological support before the procedure, despite the fact that it was so important for physical health. However, the patient education by medical staff was satisfactory in our research. The research showed that the staff provided sufficient and good quality education in verbal as well as demonstrative form. The information booklet for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, which they all received before the procedure, was very positively evaluated by the patients as part of the education. According to the results, it was recommended that it would be appropriate to appeal to the necessity and need to offer psychological support to patients during their hospitalization as part of staff training.

Ethical aspects and dilemmas of work of fireman-rescuer
Tichá, Růžena ; Štegmannová, Ingrid (advisor) ; Oplová, Alena (referee)
A fire guard/rescuer vocation means to fight fire and to rescue human lives on daily basis. It is physically and mentally a very demanding job which impose excessive requirements on firemen/rescuers, especially during interventions at tragic events. In my thesis, I tried to realize fire guards'/rescuers' attitude to their job from the ethic side, especially how they perceive following ethic standards during their interventions. I am describing ethic dilemma in this occupation, firemen's attitude to this issue and their experience as well. In the theoretical part of my thesis I am introducing a summary of expert opinions on general apprehension of ethic and moral requirements, on the value system, on the stress incidence in a human life and on the need of psychological support. These all things compared to the professional fire guards'/rescuers' activities. The practical part is presented by the qualitative research where interviews with fire guards/rescuers and their commanders represent experiences and opinions of both groups on this issue. Key words: ethics, dilemma, fire guard/rescuer, values, psychological support, stress.

There is addressed verification of hypotheses and objectives of the thesis. The problems in the process of creation of the thesis are outlined and benefits and utility work in practice are explained. The research results showed the importance and significance of psychological support during risk pregnancy. The thesis proved that emotional support can be found in multiple sources, but the greatest support for risk pregnant women is represented by husband or partner. It was also showed that there are many sources of information and risk pregnant women are interested in them. Understanding the whole situation is crucial for the acceptance of all restrictions and treatment recommendations that relate to the situation. And all these factors - psychological support, information and understanding of the situation - will ultimately have a positive impact on the overall psychological state of risk pregnant women.
