Specifics and current challenges of school counseling at Charles University and Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague from the perspective of students

The diploma thesis deals with the topic of counselling in the university environment. Specifically, it focuses on the counselling provided at Charles University and the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague from the perspective of students. The topic of counselling for university students is a very key issue. These services help students to overcome academic and personal obstacles that can make it difficult to complete their studies and thus close students possible entry into the labor market. The topics of the theoretical part of this thesis are the characteristics and background of counselling, the types of counselling services provided, and, in particular, research and comparison of counselling services provided at selected universities. The thesis aims to describe the current situation of counselling at each university using the students' opinions and thus identify the aspects influencing the awareness and overall usability of counselling services. The resultant data of the survey points to the fact that students are rather uninterested in counselling. This is mainly due to personal and study satisfaction, but at the same time, the reason is also in the form of low awareness. PhDr. Miloš Kučera, CSc. ABSTRACT: The thesis is dealing with a psychological approach to the work with families and their children at a shelter using analytical techniques. It describes the circumstances and conditions for the work in the specific socio-therapeutic environment of The Horní Počernice Shelter Home. The target group with its demographic and status characteristics is depicted in detail with focus on reasons and expectations clients have when they come to the shelter home. The paper presents a functioning concept of psychological work with all clients and results of that work. It also reveals client evaluations of shelter housing after their initial adaptation. The selected case studies show work with motivated clients where changes in client behaviour as well as changes in their intrapsychic level can be noted. The paper compares different approaches of assisting professions in the shelter home, concentrating on the position of psychological and therapeutic work in social services. Psychological counselling centre for students of Health and Social Studies at the University of South Bohemia. Preparation of specialized service

The thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part defines basic problems which students have to deal with and which can be resolved through psychological help. Furthermore, there is the definition of counselling and its application in the university environment. I also bring a brief history of university psychological counselling both abroad and in our country. An important part of this work is qualitative research in three selected specialized departments of universities, dealing with university students and staff. I performed the research by using semi-structured interviews with representatives of counselling. The fundamental part of the whole work (practical part) presents quantitative research, in which I will focus on results of the analysis, which covered 20% of the students of Health and Social Studies University of South Bohemia in the České Budějovice. Hypotheses were as follows: half of the respondents will wish the emergence of University psychological counselling in our faculty and more than 50% of students want to discuss within the counselling study problems. The first hypothesis was confirmed - 71% of respondents were positive with regard to the establishment of a specialized institute. The second assumption was not filled only 18% of respondents declared to discuss within the counselling study problems. However, quantitative research also brings some other interesting findings. 99% of respondents consider psychological help to be useful, although only a small portion of them have direct or indirect experience with its use. With this finding diverges very weak awareness of particular knowledge of university psychological counselling in České Budějovice. An interesting result is the relatively high number of respondents who would be willing to financially participate in the payment of consultation in the university counselling. The whole work brings not only important findings concerning opinions and attitudes of students who were questioned but also incentives to fulfil their potential.
