An Educational Game in Teaching Human Biology at Primary Level

The goal of diploma thesis was to create three author´s didactic games of human biology designated for education of pupils of elementary school. Games were created for 2nd year of the elementary school. The goal of the games was to acquire new knowledges and deeper existing knowledges about a topic human biology. Games follow up topics: structure of human body, senses, diseases and injures. Pupils' knowledges were verified by pretest, posttest n. 1 and posttest n. 2. Results of tests were verified between the experimental group (didactic games) and the control group (common form by using interactive exercises).
Natural objects in primary science education

This theses deals with the usage of natural objects in primary education. Living plants, animals or their parts are considered natural objects in this paper. The backbone of this theses is a collection of activities that could be of use when teaching about nature in primary school. In each activity, children work with natural objects. Some of the activities presented in the paper were performed with children during education to examine and ensure their usability.
Fish in the educational area Humans and Their World

The aim of this graduation thesis is to analyze of the nature curriculum and to prepare suggested activities, which deepen the subject matter of fish with suitable enquiring to scientifically oriented subjects on the first level (first of all science). For processing this topic of the graduation theses were preparing two excursions on store-ponds, the one on the fish haul from the pond, arranging the aquaria and meeting with an angler.

The diploma thesis has a theoretically-empirical character with a focus on the empirical part. The starting point for the solution is the requirement of the primary teacher competence to work with the differentiated group of pupils, take into account different educational needs in the planning, implementation and reflection of teaching. The aim is to determine whether and how teachers fulfill the requirement of primary school in natural science lessons. Describe and evaluate the implementation of this requirement during the realization of specific thematic unit by several teachers. Methods of the content analysis, interviews and direct observation of teaching are used to fulfill the targets of the thesis. Instructive Picture in the Fundaments of Humanities and Sciences and its Historical Perspective

This diploma thesis was written in cooperation with the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius in Prague. It deals with the vast area of instructive pictures and especially with their potential use in teaching elementary school pupils science, mainly in the second year of elementary schools. The diploma thesis seeks to determine the significance of the instructive picture in its historical perspective, to state whether even nowadays the instructive picture is still a valid teaching aid in teaching of sciences in the educational process. The first, theoretical part of the thesis, the basic concepts concerning the instructive picture, didactic means and the so important psychological approach to perception of pictorial materials are determined. A considerable part of the thesis focuses on the historical development of the school instructive picture in general and on its development in sciences in particular. Also included is a thorough study of the teaching process with the use of rare instructive pictures in the past and the current aims of teaching sciences at present are presented. Living nature in the third grade

The paper deals with "living nature", how it is presented at school to the third graders, how children deal with examining, and what kind of mistakes they make. It comes out form the observation during lectures, dialogues with teacher and analyses of the tests. Piaget's works The Childs Conception of the World, The Psychology of the Intelligence and The Psychology of the Child were used as a theoretical base. Three main reasons for mistakes emerged from this research. First children have problems with the terminology, naming of objects, either brand new words or new content of familiar words. Second problem is different experience of each child. And finally, logical and infralogical mental operation which are quite new and difficult for children but important for organizing our surrounding world. Through acquiring of this topic at school children learn how to reason what is alive and why, what the typical characteristics of life are, so they can leave their child animism and egocentric way of understanding the world.
Formative Assessment in the Educational Area Man and His World

The presented diploma thesis deals with the use of formative assessment in the educational area Man and His World. Its outcome offers a possible way of solving the shortcomings of the area in question which negatively affects pupils' attitudes towards the school subjects of this educational area. The theoretical part presents findings about the assessment in general, namely its definition, presentation of functions, types and forms of assessment. It also emphasizes the relationship between the objectives and assessment which will be a pivotal one in the educational area in question. It also discusses the specifics of this educational area in relation to the impact on pupils' attitudes. Findings about formative assessment are focused on the definition, analysis of advantages and methods of implementation into teaching. The empirical part is based on the findings from the theoretical part and is carried out by a mixed research design. Questionnaire, interview and observation was used as methods to conduct the research. The aim was to find out whether the pupils who are assessed formatively have a more positive attitude than the pupils, who are assessed only summatively. A corner of natural sciences at grammar school current state and possibilities of its use in teaching about nature

Presented thesis focuses on the analysis of the current state of natural science corners in Czech grammar schools and of their use in teaching about nature. All fundamental information was obtained through a survey using questionnaires. The analysis is based on a cross-sectional survey amongst 47 teachers that at present teach at grammar school (1st to 5th grade). Every subjects was asked to fill in a questionnaire containing 19 questions regarding natural science corners in subject's school. Presented graphs show the frequency of the most common answers from the pool of all obtained answers. The results clearly indicate the prevailing opinion of teachers on corners of natural science and shed light on their typical way of use in teaching about nature. Furthermore, the thesis also includes suggestions of educational activities that can be organized in a corner of natural science.
