The Sorting of Pupils with Special Educational Needs to Classes Based on Ability Grouping and Skill Profiling

The aim of this thesis is to examine the impact of the inner structure of specially profiled elementary schools (for example language oriented elementary schools, natural science oriented elementary schools) on the distribution of pupils with special educational needs in the school. In particular, we focus on the composition of the classes or specialized groups in terms of balanced profiling of the pupils with special educational needs. This thesis poses the question, whether there is any discrepancy between the idea of specially oriented schools (which differentiates pupils based on their talents, hobbies or any other aspects) and the goal of inclusion which is the current goal of Czech education system. And if there is a discrepancy, is it being reflected from the position of the school management? What is their stated motivation for these practices? And what are the outcomes of employing them? The methodology of this thesis is a qualitative research. In particular, we have conducted semi-structured interviews with principals or other educational specialists in the management position of a specific school.
