In dust we trust
Rujbr, Kamil ; Opekar), Ondřej (referee) ; Rathouský, Luděk (advisor)
Through the papers and canvas I tell the story of everyday addiction that surrounds us. I start from my personal feelings and suck the atmosphere of the city and places from the edge of society. This theme is presented in the form of abstract drawings and paintings, in which certain phases and processes are displayed. I capture chaos in new forms so that the image, even within the technologically advanced and in all directions of the expanding visual culture, does not lose the liveliness, sense and critical justification for its further existence. The paintings and drawings are a visit to the world of people who are not the majority of the world and are all in a way lonely and lonely in their own way.
Yihetuan 義和團: Militia United in Righteousness as a Religious Movement
Ivan, Robert ; Olivová, Lucie (advisor) ; Chlup, Radek (referee)
Using the perspective of religious studies the thesis analyzes the so called Boxer Uprising that swept the north China in 1900. It briefly summarizes the current state of scholarship and confronts the belief that the Boxers were a secret anti-government movement with connections to the White Lotus sect, or a nationalist movement fighting against the foreigners and the influence of imperialism. The common appellation Boxers refers to the Yihetuan 義和團 movement, but the thesis uses the translation Militia United in Righteousness instead because it better reflects the motives and goals of the movement. The objective of the thesis is to show that the Militia was a popular religious movement that was principally loyalist and fought primarily against the Christianity perceived as a danger to the social structure. Therefore the thesis investigates various aspects of the movement, including spirit possession and rituals of invulnerability, as well as the motives for anti-Christian attitudes. By putting the movement into a broader socio-cultural context it is shown that in order to understand the traditional China it is necessary to understand its religions. That is the reason for the emphasis on correcting misunderstandings concerning the Chinese religions and Qing dynasty (1644-1911). The thesis thus...
The characters in the novel of Ernesto Sábato El túnel and the novel of Carlos Fuentes Aura
Veselá, Helena ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Marešová, Jaroslava (referee)
(in English) This Bachelor's Thesis deals with the characters of two novels from Hispanic-American literature of the Twentieth Century. The first is Túnel written by Ernesto Sábato and the second is Aura by Carlos Fuentes. The initial part of my work briefly summarises the life and principal works of these writers. The following section tries to describe theoretically the literary characters and offers a few possible reasons for their division. The practical part is occupied by analysis of the characters and divides them by using methods which were described in theoretical part. In Túnel, the focus is on the main characters of the novel and the evolution of their relationship. In Aura, the primary focus is on the fantastic transformation of the characters. In the final section, my work offers a summary of several common and different traits of the characters appearing in both novels.
