Translation and Stylistic Analysis of One Chapter of Casualties of Peace by Edna O'Brien

This bachelor thesis focuses on difficulties encountered when translating English fiction into Czech. It is divided into two sections. The practical part provides the translation of one chapter of the novel Casualties of Peace written by an Irish author Edna O'Brien in 1966. The theoretical part delivers the stylistic analysis including choice of register, morphological, lexical, syntactic and pragmatic aspects. Each of them is illustrated with the commented examples based on theoretical background from works by Jiří Levý, Dagmar Knittlová and Olga Krijtová.

The presentation of speech, writing and thought in British newspapers.

The thesis compares forms of speech presentation (and marginally writing presentation) in British newspapers through a theory of Speech, Writing and Thought presentation as introduced by E. Semino and M. Short (2004). On a specialised corpus of 6 newspaper articles, the work compares qualitive and quantitative tendencies of individual speech presentation categories, focusing on the diagnosis of differences and common points in two journalistic sub-genres, the tabloid and the broadsheet. The speech presentation categorization is applied as a clinal model with permeable borders between individual categories. The focus is on detecting and analysing the fucntions of individual categories of speech presentation in terms of information, style, pragmatics and form. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)

Life of Roman peripheria in Pasolini's film and narrative work

In this thesis I chose the topic of the history of modern Italian literature, namely the period of neorealism. Literary production exceeds its framework and passes into another kind of art, into filmmaking. So thesis gains interdisciplinary character. Furthermore, for me, this period significant for its ethical and aesthetic values of the human society. The first part summarizes important books about the life of Pier Paolo Pasolini. In the central part is based on mutual comparison works, novels and films, the opinions of experts works drawn from secondary literature. It is currently the focus of work: analysis of novels and film sequences through which it speaks to us. In the last part of the thesis contents Pasolini's book dedicated to collection of essays bearing his poetic intention to intervene in language, literature and film layers of Italian culture.
Pasolini's scope goes beyond individual disciplines, interconnects arts and beyond "mere" national scope. It opens up new issues in the community in which he later become fateful. The thesis is dedicated to the first half of Pasolini's life that affected him during processing works analyzed below: Ragazzi di vita and Una vita violenta, Accattone and Mamma Roma. Linguistic composition of Petr Šabach's prose

The methodological part of the essay focuses on defining elements of the Czech language, especially literary language, colloquial language, vernacular language, slang and argot, and on application of these elements in 20th century literature. The practical part of the essay is devoted to usage of elements of the colloquial and the nonliterary languages in chosen proses written by Petr Šabach in consideration of their function in text.
