Phraseologisms in fairy tales of brothers Grimm and their reproduction in Czech translation

The thesis deals with phraseologisms in The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales and their reproduction in Czech translation. The basic concepts of phraseology are described in the theoretical part. Furthermore, there is described the meaning of phraseological units in language and there are explained their individual attributes. Then, basic concepts of contrastive phraseology are defined and phraseological and non-phraseological types of equivalence are determined. The corpus of phraseologisms from twelve selected Grimm´s Fairy Tales (Tangled, The Town Musicians of Bremen, Mother Holle, Little Red Cap, Puss in Boots, The Six Servants, Cinderella, Snow White, Briar Rose, The Frog King or Iron Heinrich, Rumpelstiltskin, The golden Goose) is gathered in the practical part. To these German phraseologisms there are assigned their Czech phraseological and non-phraseological equivalents. The acquired paired units represent the described types of equivalence. These types of equivalence are analysed on demonstrative examples. The thesis is also interested in Czech translation of German phraseologisms and it comprises the quantitative results.

It compares Czech and Russian phraseologisms. Theoretical part of the thesis deals with the phraseology itself and concentrates on the concepts such as phraseologism, idiom, proverb, comparison, etc. Practical part of the thesis analyses concrete Czech and Russian phraseological units involving the names of animals. These phrases are compared and determined taking into account the extent of their equivalence. Synoptic charts provide the meaning and origin of the Czech and Russian phraseologisms according to specialized phraseological and etymological dictionaries. The extent of equivalence of particular phraseologisms is defined in these charts. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to compare Russian and Czech phraseologisms mainly from their content and formal points of view, and find out the extent of their equivalence. Phrasemes in the work by M. Viewegh and their Czech Translations. A Corpus Analysis.

This thesis deals with contrastive phraseology. It compares the use of phrasemes in the work by M. Viewegh and their German translations, with focus on somatic phrasemes. The thesis is conceived as a corpus analysis. For the purpose of the thesis was chosen three Vieweghs texts and their German translations from the InterCorp corpus for comparison. InterCorp is a parallel corpus that was created at the Institute of the Czech National Corpus at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University in Prague. The object of the work is to describe differences or correspondences in the use of somatic phrasemes in the work by Viewegh and its German translations. Gender-Specific Phraseology in Contrast Analysis on the Basis of Phrases Relating to Women in German and Czech

In this thesis the author looks into gender problematics in German and Czech phraseology. The theoretical part includes definitions of basic terminological concepts and describes typical characteristics of phraseologisms, their classification, contrastive phraseology, and gender problematics in language. The practical part focuses on selected gender oriented phraseologisms concerning women together with their Czech equivalents and meanings. Phraseologisms in German and Czech are divided into groups according to their degree of correspondence. Attention is focused mainly on meanings, structure, and vocabulary of phraseological units.

An analysis of phrasemes with the components "earth", "fire", "water" and "wind" in the parallel corpus InterCorp and in the German-Czech dictionary of phrases

(in English) This thesis deals with the processing of selected phrases with the components earth, fire, water and air in a German-Czech dictionary of phrases and compares the data given there with authentic samples from the Czech National Corpus. In the first part, the reader is presented with theoretical principles of phraseology, which are the basis for the subsequent analysis. The analysis is carried out in the second part of the thesis. Among other things, the suitability of the translation propositions of the dictionary of phrases with a special consideration of the formal and semantic aspects is discussed. In addition, the actual translations in the corpus samples are also analysed and assessed. Finally, the thesis and the results of the analysis are summarized and conclusions are drawn.

Head in the Linguistic Picture of the World in Czech

This thesis focuses on the image of "hlava" (head) in the Czech linguistic picture of the world. It is based on theories and methods of cognitive linguistics. The purpose of the thesis is to describe the structure of the meaning of the word hlava. The paper by I. Vaňková and V. Vitkovskaya was used as a methodological and theoretical starting point. In that paper four semantic profiles of "hlava" are defined. The results of Vaňková and Vitkovskaya were compared with the findings of our research. We try to find out, whether the mentioned profiles are valid on a larger linguistic material, too. Two types of data are analysed - systemic data (especially phraseology, then also etymology of the word, derivatives, compounds and synonyms) and corpus materials (from Czech National Corpus). Then, we also compare the differences in the findings between systemic and textual (corpus) data. Finally, all results are summarized in the cognitive definition of hlava.

Kinegrams in the Contrastive Phraseology German - Czech

This bachelor thesis deals with kinegrams in German and Czech language. It is divided into two main parts, namely the theoretical and practical part. The former defines the main terminology of phraseological discipline, typical features of phraseologisms and their classification. Additonally, the terms kinegram and confrontational phraseology are described. The practical part is concerned with assigning czech equivalents to the german kinegrams in contrastive phraseology. Consequently, the kinegrams are divided into five groups according to their equivalence. Some of the kinegrams are described in detail with help of contemporary german press.
