Staňková, Alena ; Poláková, Dora (advisor) ; Housková, Anna (referee)
(in English) This thesis is focused on novel of the Uruguayan writer Mario Benedetti called The Truce (La tregua). As a novel, except of the love story of an older office worker and his young colleague, reflects also other motives, it is necessary to analyse appropriately these external influences, by which was the novel affected, to not deprive a reader of those motives. The first part is therefore devoted to the author, his short biography and these aspects influencing the novel The Truce, or more precisely all the artist's work. These external aspects are the biographical, historical and literary context and also an influence of a moral crisis in Uruguay. The second part is devoted to the novel as such, its structure, style and language, then to the title of the novel and its significance. In the remaining part I deal with the psychological development of the main character of the novel, Martín Santomé, in the background of the main plotline, and with selected basic topics of the novel that pervade whole story, which are pessimism, love, time and death.
