Fragments of Landscape

The master thesis Fragments of Landscape explores the meaning of landscape in contemporary Czech art, using an a/r/tographic approach focused on exploring artistic and pedagogical practice through artistic production. Emphasis is placed on the importance of connecting the roles of artist, researcher and teacher. The first part of the thesis introduces the method of a/r/tography, explores the definition of landscape and the characteristics associated with its value, and the contemporary artistic view of landscape within the contemporary Czech art scene. It analyses artistic approaches to landscape and classifies them into nine categories, reflecting the diverse artistic approaches, the author's view of landscape and their influence on the creation and understanding of landscape. The author's own artistic work focuses on the authorial process of landscape transformation and interpretation, based on art field research of the Jizera Mountains and the resulting creation of a network of landscape fragments. The categorization of artistic approaches is the key to understanding the complexity of the creative process. The categorisation implies that the landscape cannot be clearly framed and categorised. Fear in The Space

The thesis deals with the concept of fear in space. Through a/r/tographic research, the author examines the concept and changes in its perception during the process of creating an artistic and pedagogical work. In the first part, the author documents theoretical and methodological framework of the research, designs the research proposal and defines terms related to it. In the second part, the author presents her own way of grasping the concept in the space and introduces the concepts that related with this topic. She researches the concept through the reflection of her own work, both artistic and then pedagogical. As part of her artistic work, the author acquaints the reader with the origin of the artwork and follow-up reflection, from which comes the creation of visual task. In the third part, she analyses the primary documents using three-phase coding and then creates concept maps from the obtained codes, which are used to visualize the display of research results. Interprets the data obtained from the research. In the fourth part, the author summarizes the results of research, answers research questions and evaluates the achievement of the research goal. (Attachements: 13 files) The diploma thesis bears character of a reflective study, based on the principles of participative research, research by A/R/Tography method and pedagogical action research according to the methodology of Marie Fulková. With respect to the results of a previous bachelor thesis, the author turns attention to the subject of re-design as a possible solution to diverse intricacies occuring in school environment. The author also looks critically at contemporary DIY methods often used in arts education. The thesis also describes a re-design of a clothing artifact "Dinosaurs", an original work by the author, and reflections on realized didactic complexes, that are thematically bounded by the diploma thesis' assignment and elaboration. The aim of the diploma thesis is to map issues of re-design with focus to apparel, its didactic transformation and verification of practical functionality of the resulting didactic complex.
