Václav Bolemír Nebeský as a translator of Ancient literature

This bachelor´s thesis: "Václav Bolemír Nebeský as a translator of Ancient literature," deals with the Czech poet of the 19th century, Václav Bolemír Nebeský and especially with his translations from ancient literature. Above all, this work reveals his relationship to antiquity as to a certain period of history and his motivation to translate ancient authors. This thesis also works with the original sources from which Václav Bolemír Nebeský could draw upon and presents their final importance in the final translations. Last but least, this thesis also focuses on the theory of translation, the history of translation practices and compares the translation techniques of the past with the current ones. As a result, this bachelor´s thesis presents a comprehensive picture of Václav Bolemír Nebeský as an important translator of antiquity, explains his inner motivation for the translation of ancient literature and stresses the importance of his works as a part of the Czech literary canon of the 19th century.

Critical analysis of the Czech translations of Lewis': The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe

This MA thesis is concerned with the comparison of two Czech translations of C. S. Lewis' novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and practical. The first part concentrates on the description of the author's and translators' life as well as the background of creating the novel and its translations. One part deals with the film adaptations of the book. Then there are described individual techniques and methods of translation and its analysis. The second part analyses the book in general. Names used in the book, titles of chapters, selected passages and special idioms are analyzed in detail. It deals with different approaches of each translator and examines the usage of words, sentence structures and their text style. The thesis tries to compare and analyze all three texts in order to come up with the sufficient justification or disprove of all used items. Lexical specifics of the French legal language in the area of criminal law and their translation into the Czech language

Lexical specifics of the French legal language in the area of criminal law and their translation into the Czech language are the subject of this bachelor thesis. The thesis is composed of two main parts, the theoretical and the practical one. The theoretical part provides some basic information about legal language. This part describes the difference between Czech and French legal languages. Methods and procedures of translation are mentioned here as well. The practical part focuses on the analysis of selected French legal terms and deals with the problem of their translation into the Czech language, it means into the language of a different legal system. With the support of specialized sources translation solutions of selected terms are proposed here. The bachelor thesis is concluded with French-Czech glossary.
