Germany as a civilian power after its engagement in Operation Enduring Freedom
Ristemiová, Linda ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Bahenský, Vojtěch (referee)
The main subject of this thesis is the status of Germany as a civilian power after its engagement in the war against terrorism, most importantly its engagement in the Operation Enduring Freedom. It is based on the theory of civilian power, mainly on the publications of Hanns Maull and other authors, that worked with this theory later. The following empirical analysis describes particular engagement of Germany in Operation Enduring Freedom. Thesis further discusses political discourse, the discussion in the media and process of the approval of German mandate in the operation. The thesis also mentions German engagement in ISAF, as these two operations were happening simultaneously and it can help the reader understand the difference between them, as well as the controversy of Enduring Freedom, which is the main subject of this thesis. Historical context of Germany as a civilian power and its shift from civilian politics in the 90s helps to establish final arguments. As per theoretical and empirical analysis I point out, that Germany definitely shifted itself from civilian politics, however not entirely. I also take into account the fact that international position of Germany changed rapidly compared to previous century. Therefore the shift from civilian politics is natural development.

States without Armed Forces: A Comparative Case Study of Demilitarization in Panama and Costa Rica
Sponták, Tomáš ; Kučera, Tomáš (advisor) ; Ludvík, Jan (referee)
This thesis is focused on countries which do not have their own armies, especially those which had an army in the past but decided to abolish it. The main part of the thesis is a comparison of two particular countries - Panama and Costa Rica - having undergone a process of demilitarization in the last century. The thesis aims to identify factors which conditioned a contradictory post-demilitarization development of the respective countries and clarify their motivation to abolish their armies. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first one is to introduce the contemporary army-less countries to a reader. Second chapter, the theoretical one, deals with praetorianism - a situation when an army becomes a dominant element of the executive and the society as a whole. Chapters number three and four are detailed case studies of Panama and Costa Rica.
Volunteering and armed forces
Komedová, Kateřina ; Pernica, Bohuslav (advisor) ; Stejskal, Libor (referee)
The MA thesis "Volunteering in Armed Forces" focuses on describing and analysing the phenomenon of volunteering in relation to the voluntary service in the reserves of the armed forces. This topic is highly relevant in the Czech context, as there are long-term efforts made by the Czech Armed Forces to strengthen and enhance this specific component of national defense. In 2012 a new concept of reserves, the Active Reserve Concept (Koncepce aktivní zálohy) was finally approved by the Czech government. The first objective of this thesis is to shed some light on the general motivation of the volunteers to join the reserves and to show whether the incentives are mainly economic, socio-psychological or whether other factors are at play. In order to do this, the volunteering as such must first be defined as a phenomenon influencing the entire society. Then it is also necessary to show how volunteering related to national defense differs from other forms of volunteering. Next, the thesis illustrates how the system of active reserves works in a number of selected countries (Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States), where this model is applied for a long period of time and became widely accepted. The author points out the differences in national characteristics and other differences from the...
Legal and internal regulations in Czech armed forces
Nový, Dalibor ; Mikule, Leoš (advisor) ; Vopálka, Vladimír (referee) ; Svoboda, Ivo (referee)
This work entitled "Legal and internal regulations in Czech armed forces" endeavours to tackle the relation between legal and internal regulations in public administration focusing on their hierarchy, quantity, liability in specific area of armed forces. At first sight military service is independent on legal code, because there is wide range and amount of relatively autonomous service regulations and official channels. Career soldiers and civil employees have to obey not only the texts of legislation composed of laws, govermental directions etc., but also must maintain discipline and work rules founded on internal orders, guidelines and advices. All commanders and managers as military superiors are obliged to enforce their authority through this regulations. Relation between legal and internal level is not clear. There are many doubts and questions based on facts regarding for instance these features and issues of any internal system of rules: delegation of authority to creation and publishing; verification of compatibility and harmony with legal framework; persistence, integrity, perpetual modifications and amendments.

The ethics for the granting of discharged requirements of the armed forces and security corps in the political democratic system.
REMIŠ, Filip
Members in the service employment to the armed forces and the security corps are currently in the States of the European Union and NATO considered as the special separate category of the State administration staff. This is due to their mostly "negative'' specifics of the service for a democratic political system, it manifests in the areas of human rights and freedoms, political rights, social work and criminal justice. Therefore, the special rules of the social security system, which is also characterized by the ethical dimension, are related to these groups. Specifically, in the Czech Republic this is the attitude to the service in the former totalitarian regime. There is also monitored the merit of the systematized places in the service employment.
